Indy Power Rankings for the Week of May 30th, 2016

#1 Josh Alexander (@Walking_Weapon)-It was only a year ago that we were talking about the fact that we’d likely never see Josh Alexander in the Top 10 again due to career-ending injury. He has now come back with a vengeance as he won the 2016 JT Lightning Invitational Tournament over the weekend. He beat Johnny Gargano in the first round, then defeated Billy Gunn, BJ Whitmer and Colt Cabana in a four-way semifinal on 5/28, and then defeated Alex Daniels and Raymond Rowe in a three-way final the same day to win the tournament. His lone blemish on his record was when he teamed with Ethan Page at Beyond on 5/29 to lose to EYFBO (Angel Ortiz & Mike Draztik) to drop his record to 3-1 for the week. That loss was largely overlooked due to the importance of his prior three wins. Congrats to “The Walking Weapon” on his first #1 ranking!

#2 Gangrel (@gangrel13)-To be honest, this was not a name we expected to pop into the Top 10 at such a high ranking, BUT it’s a welcome sight. The former WWE superstar and current WCWC Pacific Northwest Champion had a bloody good week as he defeated Moonshine Mantell at AWA on 5/25, then defeated Chris Michaels on 5/26, then defeated Damien Wayne on 5/27, and then teamed with WAR (Chase Stevens & Chris Thorn) on 5/28 to defeat Tracy Smothers, Moonshine Mantell, Damien Wayne and Chris Michaels to go 4-0 for the week. 4-0 was tied for the best record for the week in terms of most wins and least losses, so Gangrel absolutely earned his ranking this week and we hope to see this resurgence continue on the indies.

#3 Cody Deaner (@codydeaner)-The former TNA talent gets into the Top 10 for the first time as he went 3-0 for the week. The Crossfire, CW, CCW, MCW Heavyweight, BattleArts Openweight and NEW BCW Can-Am Champion defeated American Patriot at TCW on 5/27, then defeated Jon Bolen at BCW on 5/28 to win the title, and then defeated Tyler Tirva at Crossfire on 5/29 in Canada to retain the title. This 2016 title collector has been quietly on fire in Canada this year and it finally pays off with his first ranking. Congratulations to Cody Deaner on a fantastic week!

#4 Eddie Kingston (@MadKing_ston81)-The Mad King continues to be one of the best on the indies as he gets a ranking this week after a very good week in the UK with CHIKARA. The former Grand Champion teamed with Princess Kimber Lee on 5/27 to defeat The Nightmare Warriors (Hallowicked & Icarus) then defeated Chuck Taylor on 5/28, and then defeated Hermit Crab on 5/29 to go 3-0 for the week. Kingston was on a tear in the UK, possibly establishing himself once again as a top contender for the CHIKARA Grand Championship. Look out for Kingston as the second half of 2016 is approaching.

#5 Jason Kincaid (@GiftKincaid)-What an absolutely INSANE week for “The Gift” as he wrestled NINE matches this past week. The NWA Southeastern Heavyweight Champion and ½ of the PCW Tag Team Champions went to CWE on 5/24 where he fought Lio Rush to a time limit draw, then on 5/25 teamed with Lio Rush to lose to The Cannon Clan, then on 5/26 lost a triple threat to Lio Rush, then on 5/27 he defeated Lio Rush in the first round, then defeated Tommy Lee Curtis in the semifinals, then defeated Silas Young in the final to win the CWE 2016 Elite 8 tournament, then defeated Lio Rush on 5/28, then defeated Joe Keys on 5/29, then teamed with Anderson Tyson Moore and Lio Rush the same night to defeat Silas Young, Travis Cole & Tyler Colton to go 6-2-1 for the week. Like we said…INSANE. Props to Jason Kincaid on being a true Iron Man on the indies.

#6 Kongo Kong (@RealKongoKong)-“The Monsta” continues his dominance on the indies as the JCW, SSW Heavyweight, and XICW Proving Ground Champion defeated Eric Young at BCW on 5/28 and then beat Justin Sane at Crossfire in Canada on 5/29 to go 2-0 for the week. Kong just continues to crush foes wherever he goes as one of the truly great big men on the indies just keeps showing the entire world how good he really is. The fact that he isn’t on TV every single week is a travesty, but as it stands, we’ll enjoy watching him every chance we get on the indies. He was also #5 in the online voting competition with 45 votes from his fans and supporters this week.

#7 Anderson Tyson Moore-ATM returns to the Top 10 after another good week at CWE in Canada. The CWE Champion defeated Robby Royce on 5/27 to retain the title, then defeated Tyler Colton on 5/28 to retain the title again, then defeated Travis Cole on 5/29 to retain again, and then teamed with Jason Kincaid and Lio Rush the same night to defeat Silas Young, Travis Cole & Tyler Colton to go 4-0 for the week. If you look at some of the talent he defeated you’ll see exactly why he made it into the Indy Power Rankings once again. CWE has some massive tours and ATM is always their centerpiece.

#8 Dave Crist (@OIFK1324)-The younger Crist brother is BACK in the Top 10 once again after a great week in singles in Ohio. The new NOW Heavyweight Champion defeated Dexter at NOW on 5/28, then beat Colt Daniels to win an Elimination Match that also featured Dezmond Xavier, Trey Miguel, Criss Chambers, and Drew Jacobs the same night to win the title to go 2-0 for the week (from the results we have). His fans played a HUGE part in his ranking this week as they came together and collected 71 votes making him #2 in the online voting competition which helped propel him into the #8 spot this week.

#9 Jonny Vandal (@Jvandal1)-This Turkish talent (who has wrestled in over 25 states and multiple countries) gets his first ranking this week after having a solid week in Florida over the weekend. His week started slow as he lost to Teddy Stigma at FIP on 5/27, but he bounced back as he defeated Jay Rios in a quarterfinal at I Believe in Wrestling on 5/28, then defeated Kota Sekifunda in the semifinals, and then defeated Aaron Epic in the final to win the Florida J Cup on 5/28 to go 3-1 for the week. From NXT to #9 in the Indy Power Rankings. What a run Jonny Vandal is on right now.

#10 People’s Champ. Thunder Rosa (@thunderrosa22)-It’s both the first ranking AND the first win in the online voting competition for the very popular Thunder Rosa as the LPW Lady Luck Champion and NEW UIPW Women’s Champion defeated Holidead on 5/27 to retain the LPW Title and then beat Amazona, Cristal, Datura, Lady Lee, and Sage Sin Supreme in a Six-Way at UIPW on 5/28 to win the vacant title to go 2-0 for the week. Her fans really showed their support as she received 100 votes to win this week’s online voting competition which actually pushed her into the #10 spot proving yet AGAIN that the fan vote MATTERS. You can follow Thunder Rosa on Instagram at @thunderrosa22 and you can give her a like on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/ThunderRosa22

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of May 23rd, 2016

#1 Extreme Horsemen (John Skyler, Steve Corino, & CW Anderson)-A 3-man team gets the #1 spot this week as they represent PWF Crystal Coast as their new champions. The NEW PWF Universal Six-Man Tag Team Champions defeated F1rst Generation (James Anthony, Victor Andrews) and Jack Cicero at PWF on 5/20 in the first round of the title tournament and then defeated The Syndicate in the final to become inaugural champions and to go 2-0 for the week. This 3-man team is a mix of one of the best young talents in the business combined with two of the best veterans still going. With this #1 ranking and possible future title defenses, they now put themselves in the hunt for a great spot in the Tag Team Top 50 at the end of the year if they can continue to team and win together.

#2 Roscoe Eat Lisa (Mikey McFinnegan & Zakk Sawyers @RoscoeEatLisa)-Bark bark gator tits! Roscoe Eat Lisa are inching their way even closer to the top of the Tag Team Top 50 for 2016 as they get yet another ranking this week after defeating two of the best teams on the indies over the weekend. On 5/20 they defeated The Viking War Party (Jake Parnell & Alex Rudolph) at SLA and then beat The Hooligans on 5/21 at SLA to go 2-0 for the week. Beating two of the best tag teams on the indies in itself was huge, but when you combine that with their recent success, you see why this tag team is back in the rankings again at such a high position. They are in the best shape of their lives with Mexico on their radar.

#3 The Batiri (Kodama & Obariyon)-Believe it or not, this is the first ranking ever for The Batiri as they took their talents to Europe and came out looking like gold. They defeated The Facesmashers (Dan Moloney & Wild Boar) at FCP vs Chikara on 5/20, then teamed with Nad Yenolom on 5/21 to defeat The Hunter Brothers (Jim & Lee) & Clint Margera, and then teamed with YENOLOM (Dan Moloney) on 5/22 to defeat Drew Gulak, Travis Banks & Tyler Bate to go 3-0 for the week. The only thing that really kept them out of the top spot this week was that 2 out of their 3 victories were not in straight up two-on-two tags and of course, this DUO is being judged on those victories. That being said, it’s fantastic to see them in the Tag Team Top 5 for the first time and we hope to see this more and more frequently as the year rolls on.

#4 Bomb Shelter (Joseph Schwartz & Zodiak)-The modern day villains of the wrestling world get themselves another ranking after yet another good week on the indies as a team. This tag team defeated the legendary Tracy Smothers & JC Rotten at IWA Mid-South on 5/19 and then teamed with Bill the Butcher & The Carpenter at PCW on 5/22 to defeat Team Money (Brian Blaze, Geter, Johnny Danger & Uncle Money) to go 2-0 for the week. This tag team may be the most dastardly tag team in all of professional wrestling, but one thing is for sure, they continue to make huge strides as they continue to excel as a unit where ever they go.

#5 People’s Champs. The Fellowship (Ronnie Ribs & GA West)-The now EIGHT time People’s Champs (three this year) got on the ballot by defeating Xander Litt & Nathaniel Carr at PWACT on 5/20. 133 votes later and the fans pushed them to the #5 spot all on their own. So not only did The Fellowship succeed by becoming People’s Champs with the fans’ help, they got ranked all because of them. So congrats to The Fellowship on yet another People’s Champs award, but for another ranking as well. You can follow them on Twitter and find out where they’ll be competing week-to-week at:

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of May 23rd, 2016

#1 Io Shirai (@shirai_io)-It was a CLEAN sweep of the official voters for Io Shirai as she absolutely dominated the world over the weekend. As stated, she didn’t just dominate Japan (as she so often does) the World of Stardom, 1/3 of Arist and Goddesses of Stardom Champions and NEW SWA Champion went on tour around Europe as she defeated Kasey Owens at ABC vs Stardom in France on 5/20 to retain the World of Stardom title, then at RCW vs Stardom in Spain on 5/21 defeated Kay Lee Ray in the first round, then defeated Dragonita in the semifinals, then defeated Toni Storm in the final to win the vacant SWA title, and then defeated Kay Lee Ray at BEW vs Stardom in the UK on 5/22 to retain the SWA title to go 5-0 for the week. She was the only competitor with 5 wins and with a new title and zero losses to brag about, this just wasn’t even close. Congrats to Io Shirai on her first-ever #1 ranking!

#2 Andd Bivians (https://www.facebook.com/The-King-Of-Class-Andd-Bivians-177804865604080/timeline/ )-“The King of Class” gets another ranking this week as he leaned heavily on the fan poll to boost him from #3 in the rankings to #2, all because of the support of his fans, proving yet again that THE FAN VOTE MATTERS. The UWC Heavyweight added the OTW Heavyweight Title to his collection as he won a 16 man tournament on 5/20 and 5/21 at OTW. He had a first round bye, then defeated Dan Gallenger in the quarterfinals, then defeated Dre The Dragon Drummond in the semis, then defeated Brian Johnson in the final to win the sole survivor trophy, and then cashed in the trophy to defeat Adam Chandler to win the title to go 4-0 for the week. Hell of a week for Bivians as he’s having a fantastic year so far.

#3 Chris Hero (@TheChrisHero)-Chris Hero gets back into the rankings yet again this year as he defeated Jeff Cobb at PWG on 5/20 and then got his win back vs. Michael Elgin at ESW on 5/21 to go 2-0 for the week. Hero has been absolutely incredible in his recent performances and this past weekend was no different as he received rave reviews from California to New York. “The Knockout Artist” continues to have a tremendous 2016 as he is just lining them up and knocking them down all over the world, but the question now is…will he be adding some gold in the near future?

#4 Trevor Lee (@TLee910)-The former #1 continues his success this year as he has been taking his winning ways from TNA back out onto the indies. The CWF Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion and TNA X-Division Champion defeated Andrew Everett at PWG on 5/20 and then beat Caleb Konley at ALW on 5/22 to retain the X-Division Title. A 2-0 week plus a strong quality of opposition earns Trevor Lee yet another high ranking as he just continues to get better and better throughout the year. We thought he was going to be a star in 2016 and he continues to prove us right.

#5 Mat Fitchett (@thedirtyrook)-SLA was Mat Fitchett’s stomping ground over the weekend as he picked up two very good victories. The current SLA Heavyweight Champion ans ½ of the AAW and MPW Tag Team Champions defeated Evan Gelistico at SLA on 5/20 to retain the title and then beat TJ Perkins on 5/21 to retain again to go 2-0 on the week. Fitchett is one of those talents that had been flying under the radar the last couple of years, but NOW he’s really starting to make a name for himself with some great performances and title wins all over the Midwest.

#6 Chainsaw King (@ChainsawKing)-The 6’4, 295 pound monster gets himself a ranking this week as the FLW Heavyweight Champion defeated Darin Corbin on 5/20 to retain the title and then beat former #1 Ariya Daivari on 5/21 to retain the title again to go 2-0 for the week. King, like Mat Fitchett, is another one of those names that you may hear a lot about, but until you see him, you really have no idea how impressive he really is. Keep an eye on Chainsaw King as he continues to chug forward with a ton of momentum heading into the second half of 2016.

#7 Pete Dunne (@PeteDunneYxB)-Pete Dunne continues his career year as the Rev Pro British Cruiserweight and PWK Champion defeated Eddie Kingston at FCP vs Chikara on 5/20, then teamed with Damian Dunne & MK McKinnan to defeat Disney Princesses (Princess Kimber Lee, Heidi Lovelace and Nixon Newell) on 5/21, and then defeated Ophidian on 5/22 to go 3-0 for the week. Two big singles wins and a very impressive 6-person tag team victory get Pete Dunne yet another of many rankings in 2016. He continues to have the best year of his career as he just scoring win after win.

#8 Santana Garrett (@SantanaGarrett_)-Last year’s IPR 100 #1 had another successful overseas week as she went 4-2, winning the International Grand Prix 2016 Tournament. The Battling Bombshells, BPW Heavyweight, OPW Women’s, NPW Women’s, CWE Vixen’s, RIOT Women’s and Wrestling Superstar Women’s Champion started slow as she lost an RCW Women’s triple threat title match to Leah Owens at ABC vs Stardom in France on 5/20; then at RCW vs Stardom in Spain on 5/21 defeated Alpha Female in the first round, then lost to Toni Storm in the semifinals, then at BEW vs Stardom in the UK on 5/22 defeated Danielle Hunter in the first round, then defeated Diosa Atenea in the semifinals, then defeated Nixon Newell and Mayu Iwatani in a triple threat final to win the tournament to also become SWA Women’s Title #1 Contender. Her year has been filled with world traveling and though she hasn’t loaded up with #1 rankings like last year, she’s still having an incredible year.

#9 Big Grizzly (http://www.facebook.com/biggrizzlywrestler )-The “all round angry bearded bastard from South Wales” gets his first ranking this week after a few surprising victories over the weekend. Grizz was a late addition to the poll, but absolutely deserved his ranking as the FCP All Wales Champion, PWP Heavyweight Champion and ½ of the CW Tag Team Champions defeated Danny Jones, Matthew Horgan and Panda Cub at FCP vs CHIKARA on 5/20 to retain the All Wales title, then defeated Eddie Dennis at PWC on 5/21, and then defeated Johnny Gargano at PWP on 5/22 to go 3-0 for the week. Time will tell if he gets ranked again, but with him picking up victories like the ones he scored over the weekend, it seems inevitable.

#10 Sean Mercer (https://www.facebook.com/MercerTheMonster/ )-The West Lothian based talent gets his first ranking this week as he defeated The Wrestler in the quarterfinals of the Battle of West Lothian Tournament at RIW on 5/22, then beat Theo Doros in the semis, and then defeated Rob Mills in the finals to win the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. Like Big Grizzly, we’ll have to wait and see if he can duplicate this type of success in future weeks this year.

People’s Champ. Trey Miguel (@TreyMiguel1)-Rockstar Pro’s Ludas produces the People’s Champ this week as Trey Miguel got on the poll by defeating Dezmond Xavier on 5/20 at Ludus. He then collected 109 votes from his fans and supporters to win the online voting competition by a pretty wide margin (45 votes). This humble talent from Toledo, OH has been making waves around that area and looks to continue that success as 2016 rolls on. Give him a like on Facebook at http://www.facebook.com/officialtreymiguel and a follow on Instagram at @TreyMiguel1
