Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of June 27th, 2016

#1 Guns And Beer (@GunsAndBeer1)-The AIWF Tag Team Champions get their first #1 ranking after one hell of a weekend in North Dakota. On 6/24 they defeated Reno Scum at FLW to retain the titles, then defeated Rulers of the Roost at FLW on 6/25 to retain the titles again, and then beat Eric Wayne & Bull Bronson at FLW on 6/26 to retain the titles once again to go 3-0 for the week. They were a pretty solid lock for #1 this week with their record and some of the talent they beat. The only thing that may have worked SLIGHTLY against them was that the wins took place in an area that isn’t exactly a wrestling hub for most people. That being said, they beat some great talent and are well-deserving of their first-ever #1.

#2 Kimber Bombs (Kimber Lee & Cherry Bomb)-The first thing that most would notice about the Kimber Bombs at #2 was that they topped the team that actually beat them for the SHIMMER Tag Team Titles. Take a closer look at their weekend. They defeated Team Slap Happy (Evie & Heidi Lovelace) at Shimmer on 6/24 to retain the titles, then defeated Fly High WDSS ( Mia Yim & Kay Lee Ray) on 6/25 to retain again, then defeated Xandra Bale & KC Spinelli the same day to retain again, but then lost a four-team elimination match to Team Slap Happy (Evie & Heidi Lovelace) to go 3-1 for the week. While the loss of their titles was crushing, keep in mind that it was in a four-team elimination match after having already won 3 matches previously on the weekend. A ranking was almost inevitable and the fact that they topped the current champions is just a bonus.

#3 Team Slap Happy (Heidi Lovelace & Evie)-The NEW SHIMMER Tag Team Champions had to work hard to get their spot in the Top 5 this week. They started the week slow as they lost to The Kimber Bombs at SHIMMER on 6/24, then turned around and beat the Kimber Bombs on 6/25 to win the titles, and then defeated Melanie Cruise & Yumi Ohka the same day to retain the titles with a 2-1 record. If this tag team can continue to team and pick up big victories, you’ll certainly see them back in the Tag Team Top 5 again before the end of 2016.

#4 Sound & The Fury (Joseph Black & Will Huckaby)-The NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions return to the Top 5 after they defeated The Hierarchy (Murder One & Adrian Armour) at UIW on 6/25. Their strong reputation helped them get ranked this week after several mentions in the past in the Tag Team Top 5. This tag team consisting of two very good singles wrestlers really click when they get together as a tag team from time to time. Look out for them to continue their success this year as both of them are really circulating around the U.S. right now.

#5 Over Generation (CIMA, Dragon Kid, & Peter Kaasa)-While Over Generation have had representatives of the stables ranked in the past in the Tag Team Top 5, this is the first time this combination has been ranked. They defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora, Jimmy Kanda & Jimmy Susumu) at Dragon Gate on 6/25 and then teamed with Gamma on 6/26 to defeat Monster Express (Masato Yoshino, Akira Tozawa, Big R Shimizu and Shachihoko BOY) to go 2-0 for the week. If they can continue to win like this, perhaps the Dragon Gate Open the Triangle Gate Titles are in their future?

People’s Champs. Brody Dillinger & Curtis Coleman-What a battle in the tag team online voting competition this week! The APW Tag Team Champions got on the poll as they defeated Kevin Blue & Chris Spectra at APW on 6/25 to retain the titles. 372 votes later and they became this week’s People’s Champs for the first time. You can give Brody Dillinger a like on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/brodydillingeroswa/ and be sure to look out for them as they try to continue to pick up wins and win online voting competitions along the way.

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of June 27th, 2016

#1 Michael Elgin (@MichaelElgin25)-“Big Mike” gets his first #1 ranking since 2014 (due to exclusive contracts, work in ROH, NJPW, etc…) after a HUGE week in Japan AND Mexico. The Japan portion of his week doesn’t count towards what we do as matches in New Japan aren’t eligible for our rankings, but his 4-1 week at LLE secured the top spot. Elgin showed why he’s Unbreakable as the IWGP Intercontinental Champion started slow with a loss in a Battle Royal at LLE on 6/23, but bounced back as he defeated Jinder Mahal in the first round, then on 6/25 he defeated Lio Rush in the quarterfinals, then defeated Bram in the semifinals, and then defeated Volador Jr in the final to win the Campeonato Mundial Elite 2016. The Canadian powerhouse tore it up this week and if he can continue this success on the indies, he’ll start to push his great 2013 as he was #1 in the IPR 100 that year.

#2 Nicole Savoy (@NikiMSavo)-“The Queen of Suplexes” and Heart of SHIMMER Champion had a week that was undoubtedly worthy of her second #1 ranking, despite just getting #2 this week. She defeated Crazy Mary Dobson at Shimmer on 6/24 to retain the title, then defeated Ryo Mizunami on 6/25 to retain again, then defeated Shayna Baszler the same night to retain again, then defeated Jessicka Havok on 6/26 to retain again, and then defeated Kay Lee Ray to retain again to go 5-0 for the week. It was an absolutely insane marathon week at SHIMMER for Savoy as she continues her winning ways as champion. Look out for her to start pushing her way up the IPR 100 ladder if this success continues.

#3 Teddy King-What an incredible week for Teddy King in the Midwest as he scored 4 victories, including a title win. His week started out great as he defeated Brandon Espinosa at IWA Mid-South on 6/23, then beat Vic the Bruiser on 6/24 and then won a Battle Royal to become the first ever NWA Bluegrass Champion the same night. He then beat Ray Waddell in a Street Fight at WWA on 6/25 to go 4-0 for the week. King has been mentioned many times in the Indy Power Rankings, but this is his highest ranking to date (it was previously #4). Congratulations to the former People’s Champ on yet another great ranking!

#4 Amazing Maria (@Amazing_Maria)-Amazing Maria gets her second ranking this year as she gets her first ranking since the week of February 8th, 2016 and her highest ranking to date. Maria has been on fire as of late and this past week was no different. She defeated Sassy Sally at NOW on 6/21, then defeated Randi West in a Last Woman Standing Match at IWA Mid-South on 6/22, then defeated Thunderkitty at SWF on 6/24, and then beat Rob Adams at SNPW on 6/25 to go 4-0 for the week. From Death Matches to straight up matches, to tags, she’s done it all lately. Keep an eye on her as the year rolls on.

#5 Rampage Brown (@RampageBrown)-The former #1 gets back into the Top 10 this week as ½ of the PCW Tag Team Champions won a 10-Man “Toon Tussle” at MEW UK on 6/24, then teamed with T-Bone at PCW on 6/25 to defeat The London Riots to retain the titles. He then beat Trent Seven at PROGRESS on 6/26 to go 3-0 for the week. One of the UK’s top talents continues to shine as he was unblemished this past week. Getting a ranking this past week at all, means A LOT as the competition was absolutely fierce on the indies.

#6 Andrew Hunter (@ahisnow138)-The former People’s Champ (last week) gets back into the Top 10 for the second time as he is now 7-0 over the last 2 weeks. He does drop one spot from his #5 ranking last week, but again, any ranking means a lot this week. The WCCW Champion defeated Ross Bray at RIPW on 6/24, then defeated Cody Matthews and Dwayne Davis in a three-way ladder match at WCCW on 6/25 to retain the title, and then defeated Jay Deeze at UWA on 6/26 to go 3-0 for the week. He had another strong showing in the online voting competition with 146 votes to come in third place this week.

#7 Volador Jr.-The NWA World Historic Welterweight, UIPW Heavyweight and 1/3rd of Mexican National Trios Champions jointly won a seeding battle royal at LLE on 6/23, then defeated PJ Black the same night, then teamed with Bandido at Caralucha on 6/24 to defeat Flamita & Fly Warrior, then defeated Tama Tonga at LLE in the quarterfinals on 6/25, then defeated Kushida in the semifinals, but then lost to Michael Elgin in the final to go 5-1 for the week. His record alone speaks for itself, but keep in mind his only loss was to this week’s #1. Had he won that match he’d be sitting at #1, but he IS ranked and that counts for a lot.

#8 Jessica James (@JJ_RAJETT)-It was one hell of a week for Jessica James as she gets her first ranking after a BIG tournament victory in Texas. The IHWE Queen Of The Ring Champion and Inspire Pro XX Division Champion competed at ACW on 6/26 as she defeated Allie Kat in the quarterfinals, then defeated Christi Jaynes in the semifinals, and then defeated Sage Sin in the final to win the 2016 American Joshi Queen of Queens Tournament to go 3-0 for the week. If she can keep this going, this won’t be her last time in the Top 10.

#9 Ron Mathis (@RonMathis13)-Mathis gets his first ranking in quite some time as he just continues to improve and win big matches where ever he goes. The Remix Pro and PDW Heavyweight, 1/2 of Rockstar Pro Tag Team Champions and NEW XMCW Champion teamed with Jake Crist at Rockstar Pro on 6/22 to defeat Ace Perry & Spidermonkey in a non-title match, then defeated The Masked Freak at XMCW on 6/23, and then won a Battle Royal the same night to win the vacant title to go 3-0 for the week. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him in the Top 10 but his inclusion is a welcome sight.

#10 Ian Payne-The NEW NAWA Lightweight Champion gets his first ranking as he defeated Jeff Victory in the first round, Mason Maddox in the semifinals, and Rob Killjoy in the finals to win the title to go 3-0 for the week. It was an interesting week of returns, firsts, and other big things in the Indy Power Rankings, rounded off with the Ian Payne #10 ranking. If he can continue to defend that title against top competition, you may be seeing him again in the Top 10.

People’s Champ. Cassidy Kieth (@DatCassidyKieth)-The online voting competition was an all-out war this week as you had Cassidy Kieth competing with Jon Davis (with USWA support) and Andrew Hunter for the People’s Champ award this week. In the end, Cassidy Kieth collected 262 votes after getting on the poll with a victory vs. Rick Vidal & Johnny Crisis in a Triple Threat at PWK on 6/25. He had previously won the online voting competition as ½ of Detroit vs. Everybody but this was his first time winning the competition in singles. Give him a follow on Twitter!

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of June 20th, 2016

#1 Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TeamIOU)-The Carnies did it again! They had EASILY the most dominant week of any tag team on the indies this past week. They defeated Black Baron & Odinson at New South on 6/18, then at AWE on 6/19 they defeated Sound & Fury (William Huckaby & Joe Black) and Booty Call (Joey Ryan & Kiera Hogan subbing for Candace LeRae) in a triple threat, then defeated The Kraken (Murder One & Chip Day) in the semifinals, and then defeated Straight Up Motor Fuel (Martin Stone & Aaron Epic) in the final to become inaugural champions to go 4-0 for the week. What a long way these two have come as they just continue to kill it where ever they go and despite having two great years back-to-back, they’re having their best career year THIS year. Congrats to the former Boy and his Dog on another #1 ranking! Don’t forget to tune in EXCLUSIVELY on Elite Podcast Network on 6/29 for the Tag Team Top 50 Mid-Year Update to find out where they rank at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork

#2 The Ugly Ducklings (Lance Lude & Rob Killjoy @3MotherDuckers)-This upstart trio makes their first appearance in the Tag Team Top 5 after a good week in the Carolinas. On 6/17 Killoy & Lude defeated Jack Cicero & Bobby Wohlfert at PWF and then teamed with their third Duckling partner Colby Corino on 6/18 to defeat The Lucha World Order (Los Ben Dejos & Lince Dorado) to go 2-0 for the week. Not many teams had multiple wins this week and even less had the type of quality wins like the one over The Lucha World Order that The Ugly Ducklings picked up. PWX continues to churn out impressive tag team rankings as the weeks and months go on.

#3 Rob Raw & Darkmondo-Speaking of firsts, this is the first ranking for this tag team of Rob Raw & Darkmondo. This duo had a great week in Europe as they competed in the European Cup in France (joint event by FFCP from France, BCWF from Belgium, EPW from Germany and WAW from the UK) on 6/19 as they defeated Dominic Brackner & John Klinger, then defeated the UK Hooligans (Roy Knight & Zak Knight) and then teamed with Priscilla to defeat David Michel, Hooligan Beef & Pauline to go 3-0 for the week. It was really a magical week for a team that many would call unknown up until this point. If they can keep this going, perhaps they’ll be a dark horse in the year-end rankings.

#4 Bravado Brothers (Lancelot & Harlem Bravado)-The former #1’s and current PWX Tag Team Champions issued another Bravado Brothers Open Challenge and they scored a big win vs. JML (David Starr & “Swerve” Shane Strickland) and The Revolt (Caleb Konley & Zane Riley) in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match on 6/18 to retain the PWX Tag Team Titles. Being former #1’s, having a great reputation as a tag team, defending important titles, and defeated 2 solid tag teams in one match helped The Bravados get into the Top 5 this week despite only having one victory. That victory was obviously a BIG victory and helped their overall point total for next week’s Tag Team Top 50 Mid-Year Update.

#5 Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu & Jimmy Kagetora)-Dragon Gate makes their usual appearance in the Tag Team Top 5 as this duo from “The Jimmyz” stable get another ranking this week. They are the NEW Dragon Gate Open the Twin Gate Champions after they defeated Monster Express (Masato Yoshino & Shachihoko BOY) at Dragon Gate on 6/18 and then defeated Monster Express (T-Hawk & Big R Shimizu) on 6/19 to win the titles to go 2-0 for the week. There’s definitely an argument for them to be ranked higher this week, but as it stands, they sit at #5 with the hope of some higher rankings as the weeks move forward.

People’s Champs. Hair Metal (Shane Mercer & Sugar Dunkerton)-This brand new tag team of two fantastic singles talents got on the poll by picking up a victory vs. The Police Department at Strong Style Wrestling on 6/19. The real fun started after that as our online voting competition is often its own match as two teams duked it out for the People’s Champs award this week. When the competition ended at 10 PM EST, this tag team had edged out Team IOU for just a handful of votes to grab the top spot with 106 votes (IOU picked up multiple votes after the 10 PM cut off). You can follow Shane Mercer on Twitter @TheIronDemon and on Instagram @ShaneMercer. You can find Sugar Dunkerton on Twitter at @SugarDunkerton and Instagram at @SugarDunkerton. Indy Power Rankings for the Week of June 20th, 2016

#1 Ivelisse (@RealIvelisse)-Ivelisse finally gets the respect she deserves in the Indy Power Rankings as she skyrockets to the #1 spot this week after a HUGE week at SHINE. On 6/17 she defeated Kellie Skater, Mia Yim, Nicole Matthews and Santana Garrett in a Money in the Bank Match and then cashed in as she defeated TNA Knockouts Champion Allysin Kay, SHIMMER Champion Madison Eagles, and SHINE Champion Taylor Made in a Four-Way the same night where all 3 titles were on the line depending on who was pinned. It was Taylor Made who was pinned as Ivelisse became a 2-time SHINE Champion to go 2-0 for the week. Looking at the talent she defeated, the stage she was on, and the strength of who she is, there was little doubt as to who deserved #1 this week. Her fans also helped as she collected 32 votes to come in 4th in the online voting competition. Congrats to Ivelisse on a tremendous week and her first #1 ranking!

#2 Joseph Schwartz (@GearsOfSchwartz)-What a crazy week for wrestling’s real life villain as Joseph Schwartz became “Prince of the Death Matches” after a marathon week. His week didn’t start out great as he was eliminated in a Battle Royal at IWA Mid-South on 6/16 and then lost to fellow Bomb Shelter member Zodiak the same night. He bounced back as he beat TJ Kemp at WCWO on 6/17, then beat Brock Hall to become the NEW UPW Heavyweight Champion on 6/18, then went to POTDM at IWA Mid-South where he beat JJ Garrett in the First Round, then beat Jeff King in the Second Round, and then beat Deadly Dale in the Finals to win the tournament to earn a spot in King of the Death Matches on 8/6. It was one hell of a week for The Gears of Schwartz as he looks to continue that success as the upcoming weeks and months roll on.

#3 Big Damo (@BigBeardDamo)-“Big Damo” gets back into the Top 10 this week as the Pride, XWA, and ICW World Champion defeated Wolfgang at RnW on 6/17, then defeated Joe Coffey at RIW on 6/18, then teamed with Joe Coffey at Progress on 6/19 to defeat Rampage Brown & Mikey Whiplash, and then defeated Grado at ICW the same night to retain the title to go 4-0 for the week. Big Damo just continues to push his way up the IPR 100 as he has been one of the most-ranked wrestlers on the indies this year proving yet again that in 2016, the UK is really producing some fantastic talents.

#4 Kongo Kong (@RealKongoKong)-“The Monsta” is BACK yet again as he had another solid week to continue his strong push for his first-ever #1 ranking in the IPR 100. He’s got some work to do (you can find out where he ranks in the mid-year update next week) but he’s definitely continuing to hack away at moving up. The Strong Style Wrestling Heavyweight Champion won a 4 Way Tag Team Match at AAW on 6/18 as he teamed with Desmond Xavier to beat Candice LeRae & Heidi Lovelace, Shane Hollister & Markus Crane, and Connor Braxton & Eli Machete when Kong pinned Braxton and then beat Tommy Dreamer in a Street Fight on 6/19 to retain the title to go 2-0 for the week. As noted before in our rankings, Kongo Kong has been the most consistent competitor as far as rankings in 2014 and 2015 ranking. That trend seems to be continuing this year. He was also #2 in the online voting competition with 39 votes.

#5 People’s Champ. Andrew Hunter (@ahisnow138)- What a historic week for Andrew Hunter as he not only won the online voting competition, but also got his first official ranking in the Top 10. The WCCW Champion defeated Lennox Norris at UWA on 6/17, then defeated Matt Atreya at SICW the same day, then defeated Krutch at WCCW for the title on 6/18, and then defeated Lucas Tyler at WCCW on 6/19 to retain the title to go 4-0 for the week. His fans took care of the rest as 107 votes came in to help Hunter win the online voting competition EASILY, which also propelled him into the #5 spot. You can follow Andrew Hunter on Instagram at @ahisnow and subscribe on Youtube at Youtube.com/ahisnow and give him a like on Facebook at Facebook.com/ahisnow

#6 Kaji Tomato-Kaji Tomato had a week that rivaled everyone as he teamed with Ayumu Honda and Bambi at K-Dojo on 6/19 to defeat TAKA Michinoku, Masao Inoue and Alex Lee; then the same day in the Super J-Cup, K-DOJO Qualifying tournament, then defeated Kunio Toshima in the quarterfinals, then defeated Shiori Asahi in the semifinals, and then defeated Ayato Yoshida in the final to win the tournament to go 4-0 for the week (his tag win at AJPW doesn’t count towards our rankings). Tomato might have flown under the radar a bit due to a lack of fan support in the online voting competition, but he most definitely earned his spot this week.

#7 Trevor Lee (@TLee910)-Another perennial “rankee” (yes, that’s not a word) this year is Trevor Lee as he continues to shine no matter where he goes. The CWF Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion defeated Moose, Andrew Everett, and Cedric Alexander in a four-way at AAW on 6/17 and then defeated Andrew Everett at CWF Mid-Atlantic on 6/18 to retain the title to go 2-0 for the week. It really speaks to the type of competition in this week’s rankings that these victories only netted Trevor Lee a #7 ranking, but that’s how the chips fell with so many great talents slamming their way into the Top 10 this week with huge wins across the world.

#8 Bubblegum (@pipbubblegum)-The NGW Gen-X, TNT, JDW and GPW British Champion and former 2-time #1 defeated Matt Myers at NGWUK on 6/18 to retain the title, then defeated Roy Knight at TNT the same night to retain their title, and then defeated Chris Ridgeway at JDW on 6/19 to retain their title to go 3-0 for the week. Three wins. Three title defenses. Much like Trevor Lee, on any other week you likely would have seen Bubblegum much higher in the rankings, but again, the competition was absolutely fierce this week.

#9 Marty Scurll (@MartyScurll)-Marty Scurll just continues to establish himself as one of the UK’s top talents and this past week he cemented that fact with a victory over Chris Hero on 6/19 to retain the Progress World Title. Scurll (like Hero, who he beat) is one of the many talents with a shot at ending the year in the IPR 100 Top 10. To find out where Scurll, Hero, and everyone else sits at the mid-year mark, be sure to tune in on 6/28 for the IPR 100 Mid-Year Update ONLY on Elite Podcast Network at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork

#10 Dave Crist (@OIFK1324)-Ohio is truly for Killers once again as Dave Crist cracks the Top 10, showing his longevity in the business. The NOW Heavyweight Champion teamed with Zachary Wentz, Dezmond Xavier & Aaron Williams at Rockstar Pro on 6/15 to defeat Jeremiah, Pompano Joe, Percy Davis & Kyle Kraven, then teamed with Sami Callihan at AAW on 6/17 to defeat Outlaw Inc. (Eddie Kingston & Homicide) and then defeated Trey Miguel at Ludus to retain the NOW title on 6/18 to go 3-0 for the week. Although most of his wins were in tags this past week, the variety of opponents and support from his fans (30 votes) helped to push Dave Crist into the Top 10 this week which is impressive as we again reiterate, it was a VERY competitive week on the indies.
