Indy Power Rankings for the Week of March 30th, 2015

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of March 30th, 2015

#1 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-As if holding the EVOLVE, ICW, DPW, and OCW Titles wasn’t enough, Galloway unified the EVOLVE and DGUSA Open the Freedom Gate Titles on 3/28 when he defeated Johnny Gargano. Not only that, he also defeated PJ Black at EVOLVE on 3/26 to retain the title, then defeated UhaaNation on 3/27 in a non-title match. Just for good measure and to really solidify his #1 ranking, he defeated Joe Coffey on 3/29 to retain the ICW Title to go 4-0 on the week. What more can really be said about the former Drew McIntyre at this point? He truly is one of the very best in the world and this ranking just further solidifies that point.

#2 Adam Thornstowe @RockLegendScum)-The King of the Indies returns with a boom and had it not been for the dominance of Drew Galloway on the weekend, the KOI would have produced a likely #1. That being said, you can’t ignore what Adam Thornstowe did over the weekend when he defeated Shaun Ricker on 3/27 in the First Round, then beat Luster the Legend (his partner) on 3/28, then defeated Timothy Thatcher in the semi-finals the same day, before defeating Willie Mack in the finals. A 4-0 weekend gets Thornstowe into the Top 10 for the very first time in 2015 after securing a #1 ranking at one point in 2013.

#3 Kay Lee Ray (@Kay_Lee_Ray)The Scottish Women’s Champion and Queen of Southside Champion came to the U.S. and had a great weekend as she won SHIMMER’s Chick Fight Tournament on 3/28. First she defeated Kimber Lee in the First Round on 3/28, then beat Nikki Storm in the semi-finals, and then wrapped up the tournament by defeating Cheerleader Melissa and Evie in the Finals to go 3-0 on the weekend. While she didn’t get a lot of support in the online voting, she did receive a ton of support from the official voters, usually between a 2 or a 3 ranking. After missing out on the 2014 IPR 100, she may have a great chance going forward in 2015 to make the cut.

#4 Akira Tozawa (@TozawaAkira)-Well, here he is again. We said last week on the Indy Power Rankings Reveal that it’s going to be VERY difficult for anyone to catch up to him this year in the IPR 100, but this ranking just continues to add validity to that statement. The Dragon Gate Open the Brave Gate Champion and NEW Open the Owarai Gate Champion defeated Flamita on 3/24 to retain the Brave Gate Title, then teamed with Masato Yoshino Syachihoko BOY on 3/28 to defeat MAD BLANKEY (Cyber Kong, Gamma & Naruki Doi) and then defeated Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria on 3/29 to win the Open the Owarai Gate Title to go 3-0 for the week. We’ll pose the question again. Can anyone stopTozawa?

#5 Ultimo Dragon-The NWA International Junior Heavyweight Champion and 1/2 of All Asia Tag Team Champs teamed with Takao Omori at AJPW on 3/23 to beat Suwama and Hikaru Sato, then teamed with Jun Akiyama on 3/24 to beat Go Shiozaki and YoheiNakajima, and then wrapped up the HUGE weekend when he defeated Juventud Guerrera on 3/28 at King of the Indies to go 3-0 for the week. With 8 straight victories to his credit, he’s really starting to gain some momentum and become one of the surprise stories of 2015 leading into the mid-year update for the IPR 100 on June 30th(look out for that by the way).

#6 Robert Dreissker-1/2 of GSW Tag Team Championsdefeated Axel Dieter Jr at wXw on 3/27 in theMitteldeutschland Cup semifinals, then defeated Absolute Andy, Bad Bones and Ilja Dragunov in the final to win the tournament. He then defeated The Rotation on 3/28 atwXw in the Czech Republic and then defeated Ivan Kiev at wXw in Germany on 3/29 to go 4-0 for the week. Hell of a week for Dreissker who gets his very first ranking in the Top 10. Germany has played a major role in the Indy Power Rankings this year and we expect a lot more of that going forward.

#7 Ricochet (@KingRicochet)-There’s a reason why he was #1 in the IPR 100 last year. The man is GOOD. Great, even. He’s struggled a bit so far in 2015, but makeno mistake, he can get hot again at any time. While hisLucha Underground results are not included in the Indy Power Rankings eligibility, he overcame that obstacle with a good weekend. He teamed with Rich Swann andUhaa Nation to beat The Premier Athlete Brand (Brian Cage & Caleb Konley) & TJ Perkins at Evolve on 3/26, then defeated PJ Black on 3/27, then defeated Matt Cross and Joey Ryan at King of the Indies the same night, then teamed with Uhaa Nation at WNN Supershow to lose to Austin Aries and Roderick Strong, and then wrapped up the weekend with Jushin Thunder Liger and AR Fox atWrestlecon to defeat Roderick Strong, Frankie Kazarianand Christopher Daniels to go 4-1 for the week. Could this be just the beginning for the “King” of the Indy Power Rankings in 2014?

#8 Kyle Roberts-We’ve got another first-timer to the Indy Power Rankings as the NEW RCCW City of La Crosse Champion joins the Top 10 after he defeated Damon Knight, then Kidd Riot, and finally Nathan Sensation to win the inaugural tournament for the title. Solid weekend and even more impressive that he was able to find his way into the Top 10 on a week where no matter where you look, some of the best talent had multiple victories. With him getting his first ranking, time will tell if he’s able to build on that in the future.

#9 Santana Garrett (@BrittanyTNA)-The NWA Women’s World Champion added a new title to her mantle as she won the Ring Warriors Battling Bombshell Title over the weekend when she defeated La Rosa Negraon 3/28. No woman has ever dominated the Indy Power Rankings like Santana Garrett has in 2015 and quite frankly she’s a serious contender for a top 5 spot in this year’s IPR 100 ALREADY. Go back and check out her interview on the Tag Team Top 5 Reveal from last week here:http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork/2015/03/25/indy-power-rankings-tag-team-top-5-reveal-ft-santana-garrett-brittanytna

#10 Kotaro Suzuki-The NEW All Japan World Junior Heavyweight Champion gets a lot of respect from the official voters this week as he teamed with Go Shiozakiand Yohei Nakajima at AJPW on 3/23 to beat Akebono, Yutaka Yoshie and SUSHI, then defeated Yuma Aoyagi on 3/24, and then defeated Atsushi Aoki on 3/27 to win the title. With a 3-0 week he gets into the Indy Power Rankings for just the 2nd time, but it’s clear that he’s having a very successful year thus far.

People’s Champ. Phage Pumpkinking(@PumpkinsGoBoom)-The new UWC Internet Champion (and only man to beat Frank Wyatt last week) won the title on 3/27 (defeating Frank Wyatt for the belt) and then defeated Stonewall on 3/28 at PWA to go 2-0 for the week. With 65 votes, he EASILY won the online voting competition this week. Congrats to him!

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of March 23rd, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of March 23rd, 2015

#1 Viking War Party (American Viking, Jake Parnell, & Frank Wyatt @VikingWarParty)-It’s a first for these three wild ass Vikings as they dominated the weekend as a 3-man team. First, they defeated Team IOU & Cody Morton at SWF in TN and then they took their show up to New Jersey where they got revenge against The Hooligans and Necro Butcher in a vicious Street Fight at JAPW to go 2-0 on the week. When teaming together as a group, this team is almost unstoppable. Could we see this team in CHIKARA’s vaunted King of Trios later this year? One can only hope so as they are one of the very few teams who have topped the rankings as a 3-man team.

#2 People’s Champs. Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy)-A boy and his dog had been gaining momentum heading into the weekend. It looked somewhat bleak however when they lost a 6 Man Tag to the Viking War Party on Friday, but they bounced back STRONG by winning PGP’s Tag Team Title Tournament, defeating Ron Mathis & Aaron Williams, then Perfect Addiction, and finally, Team Overkill (Christian Rose & Matt Cage) to win the tournament for the titles. A 3-1 record and multiple wins over the last few weeks have gotten Team IOU back into the Tag Team Top 50 hunt after struggling in January and early February. If they can overcome Kerry Awful’s hand injury, they’ll be a force to be reckoned with for months to come. Once again they also prove their massive popularity by winning a hotly contested online voting competition to become Back to Back to Back People’s Champs with 97 votes. Congrats to IOU!

#3 Malice & Nitro-This tag team makes their first entry into the Tag Team Top 5 as they defeated James Alexander & Kris Korvis at APW on 3/17, then defeated N8 Mattson & Zach Gowen at CPW the same night, andthen defeated Great Akuma & Jun Hado at CIW on 3/21 to go 3-0 for the week. While they didn’t get much support in the online voting competition, they DID get a ton of support from the official voters as they were impressed with their 3 victories over the weekend as it was a week where there were very few teams with so many victories. That being said, this team could really start to build on this in the near future if they can continue to pick up wins together.

#4 OI4K (Jake & Dave Crist)-One of the top tag teams on the independent scene today once again find their way into the Tag Team Top 5 after they defended and retained their AAW Tag Team Titles vs. Zero Gravity and Markus Crane & Dan Lawrence in a 3 Way on 3/20. This team has been particularly successful in 2015 after being #6 in the Tag Team Top 50 for 2014. With them holding some of the biggest tag team titles on the U.S. indies, not enough can be said about this team. As far as the 2015 Tag Team Top 50, they’re currently sitting in a very high position as the very top team in the United States right now.

#5 Worst Case Scenario (Ethan Case & Elijah Evans IV)-This Carolina-based tag team showed up strong this week despite literally no fan support in the online voting competition. The former PWX Tag Team Champions defeated “Bad Luck” Mickey Gambino & Timmy LouRetton at PWX on 3/21, then defeated James Drake &Kid Chaos on 3/22 to go 2-0 for the week. They’re still on the hunt for the PWX Tag Team Titles with Country Jacked squarely in their sights. Can they regain the gold in 2015 at some point?

Honorable Mention. The Millennials (Flamita & T-Hawk)Defeated MAD BLANKEY (Naruki Doi & PunchTominaga) on 3/17, then defeated MAD BLANKEY (CIMA and Mondai Ryu) on 3/22 to go 2-0 for the week.

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of March 23rd, 2015

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of March 23rd, 2015

#1 Shynron (@Dragon_Shynron)-One of the best high flyers in the entire world once again proves his worth this week as he survived AIWF’s Krazy 8 Tournament. First, the CLL International All Star Champion defeated Alex Kai, then he defeated Drew Game, and then in the Finals he defeated Former #1 Kameron Kade to go 3-0 on the week to win the tournament. It was another great week for the former DREAMWAVE Alternative Champion and #45 in the 2014 IPR 100. With a ranking like this, there’s a good shot you’ll be seeing him even higher in the 2015 IPR 100 if he can keep this momentum going.

#2 Ultimo Dragon-Yes, THAT Ultimo Dragon returns to the Indy Power Rankings this week after a VERY impressive week. There may have been some detractors among the official voters as all of his victories were in tags, but a 4-0 week is Big. He teamed with AlexanderOtsuka on 3/20 to defeat Heddi French & Hikaru Sato at RJPW, then teamed with Burning Wild to defeat Akebono, SUSHI, & Yutaka Yoshie on 3/21 at AJPW, then teamed with Yoshinubu Kanemaru to defeat Dark Kingdom for the AJPW All Asia Tag Team Titles on 3/22, and then wrapped up the week, teaming with Takao Omori to defeat Evolution (Hikaru Sato & Suwama) on 3/23 at AJPW. With him coming to the U.S. this coming weekend, look out for more success from the former WCW star.

#3 Josh Alexander (@Walking_Weapon)-“The Walking Weapon” has absolutely owned 2015 as he is clearly the top wrestler in Canada right now, with apologies to Ethan Page and others. With him currently holding the AIW Absolute Title, he already has a bit of prestige associated with him, but he went 3-0 on a very competitive weekend where he first defeated Dick Justice on 3/20 to retain the title, then beat Johnny Gargano at AAW on 3/21, and then wrapped up the weekend by defeating El Jefe & Jon Bolen at Destiny on 3/22. What more can really be said about this rising star? He’s got a date with Samoa Joe in AAW in April to further try to prove himself.

#4 Akira Tozawa (@TozawaAkira)-At this point, what more can be said about Akira Tozawa? He is the clear #1 right now in the IPR 100 for 2015, but the year is still young. That being said, the Dragon Gate Open the Brave Gate Champion continued his dominance once again over the weekend as he defeated Don Fuji on 3/17, then teamed with Shingo to defeat The Millenials on 3/21, then beat Stalker Ichikawa twice on 3/22 to run his record to 4-0 on the week. He has won ten of his last thirteen matches after going on an insane winning streak earlier in the year. Can anyone stop Tozawa’s reign of terror on the Indy Power Rankings?

#5 Sugar Dunkerton (@SugarDunkerton)-Who would have thought “Suge D” would have been at or near the top of the list of the top wrestlers in the world on the indies in 2015? Chances are HE thought so. With no shortage of confidence, he headed into the weekend with two titles and two previous #1 rankings and came out with both titles still around his waist. On 3/20 he defeated Shannon Moore to retain the Strong Style Wrestling Title and then followed that up on 3/21 by defeating Scotty Young to retain the RESISTANCE Pro Title. He’s evolved into so much more than a comedy act and make no mistake, he’s one of the best out there right now.

#6 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-Despite getting absolutely no fan support in the online vote, the official voters saw the title collector himself once again collecting titles around the world. This past week he added the OCW Heavyweight Title in Australia to his collection as he defeated Andy Phoenix to retain his ICW and EVOLVEtitles, then defeated Tyler Throne at AAW in Australia on 3/21 to go 2-0 on the week. With a HUGE title unification match vs. Johnny Gargano coming up, can the former WWE superstar add even more gold to his growing collection? Stay tuned!

#7 Jimmy Havoc (@Jimmy Havoc)-The Progress Champion (and All England Champion, NWA UK Junior Heavyweight Champion and FPW Championis no stranger to the Indy Power Rankings and this week he returns after retaining the Progress Title in a 6-Man Elimination Match on 3/22 vs. Noam Dar, Will Ospreay, Marty Scurll, Dave Mastiff, and Paul Robinson. He came in as the champ and he walked out as the champ after outlasting 5 of the UK’s best talents. He has now won 7 of his last 10 matches.

#8 Crazy Mary Dobson (@CrazyMaryDobson)-The APWA Ladies Champion and 1/2 of the JCW Tag Team Champions is experiencing a breakout year and it’s further proven by her ranking this week after she defeated Amazing Maria at PDW on 3/17 and then followed that up with a TREMENDOUS victory over Mickie Knuckles to win the RESISTANCE Pro Title. Go check out her interview on last week’s Tag Team Top 5 Reveal here:http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork/2015/03/18/indy-power-rankings-tag-team-top-5-reveal-ft-crazy-mary-dobson

#9 Peter B. Beautiful (@peterbbeautiful)There was a huge debate among the official voters as to the prestige of the UPW Lord of Hardcore Tournament and whether it merited Peter B. Beautiful being ranked this week. The debate was heated and the official voters were split, but in the end, Peter B gets enough support to get in after defeating Chris Redcloud in a Taipei broken glass death match in the first round, then defeating Bryant Woods in a needles and nails match in the semifinals, and then defeating Corporal Robinson in a razor board, razor wire and barbed wire match in the final to win the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. He got a little bit of fan support in the online vote as well, which always helps.

#10 MaliceVERY good week for Malice as the APW Heavyweight Champion defeated James Alexander on 3/17 to retain the title, then teamed with Nitro the same night to beat James Alexander & Kris Korvis, then teamed with Nitro at CPW the same day to defeat N8 Mattson & Zach Gowen, then teamed with Nitro at CIW on 3/21 to beat Great Akuma & Jun Hado to go 4-0 for the week. This is his first ranking and if he can continue this type of winning, there’s no reason to believe he can’t start to climb up the rankings as the weeks go on.

People’s Champ. The ChoffIt was another tight voting battle all day in the online vote, but in the end, the NEW QWA Champion pulled away as he collected 109 votes to become this week’s People’s Champ after defeating Tower of Power and Seth Tylors in Australia on 3/21 to become the inaugural champion.
