Indy Power Rankings for the Week of May 29th, 2017

#1 Tracy Williams (@sauce_williams)-Just like that we have a NEW and FIRST-TIME #1! It was an insane weekend chalk full of tournaments and at the end of it all, Tracy Williams stood atop the charts as this week’s Indy Power Rankings #1. It was the JT Lightning Invitational Tournament 2017 that led to this week’s #1 as last week’s #6 ranked competitor defeated Eddie Kingston at Absolute Intense Wrestling on 5/26 in the first round, then defeated Dominic Garrini, Mike Tolar and Tom Lawlor in a four-way semifinal on 5/27, and then defeated Joey Janela and Shawn Schultz in a three-way elimination final the same day to win the tournament with a 3-0 record for the week. “Hot Sauce” has been on fire as of late and this weekend was no different as he just continues to make a name for himself on the indies.

#2 Travis Banks (@Travis_BanksPW)-When it came to strength of competition, NO ONE could stack up against the former #1 and current Fight Culture PRO, Lucha Forever, and ½ of the RevPro British Tag Team Champions. He defeated Matt Riddle at Lucha Forever on 5/25 to retain the title, then beat Jimmy Havoc at PROGRESS on 5/27 in the First Round of the tournament and then beat Flamita at PROGRESS on 5/28 in the quarterfinals to go 3-0 for the week. The following day he won the tournament, but those wins will apply to NEXT week’s rankings. Despite his very big wins, Williams got the nod for the prestige of the tournament and the fact that he won several multi-man matches. Banks already has a strong argument already for next week’s #1. We shall see how it all pans out.

#3 Jason Kincaid (@GiftKincaid)-Had it not been for his loss to AR Fox at FIP on 5/26, you likely would have been looking at Jason Kincaid as this week’s #1. That said, he still EARNED his #3 ranking as he defeated Sean Maluta in the first round at WWN Style Battle on 5/27, then defeated James Drake (US) in the Block B final, and then defeated Fred Yehi in the final to win the tournament to go 3-1 for the week. With Kincaid now healthy and seemingly recovered from his neck injury, there’s no doubt that he’s going to use this momentum to continue to make a name for himself wherever he goes. Perhaps the most positive man in pro wrestling, “The Gift” continues to wow fans all over North America.

#4 Ruby Raze (@Razerpops)-Much like Kincaid, if it had not been for the tag team loss (with Hudson Envy) vs. The Killer Baes (Laura James & Heather Monroe) on 5/28 at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood, she would have had a strong argument for #1 this week. She defeated Jordynne Grace at Alternative Wrestling Show on 5/27 in the first round, then defeated Candice LeRae in the semifinals, and then defeated LuFisto in the final to win AWS Women’s Tournament #5. Raze is an absolute bad ass and an equal opportunity ass-kicker, so when you get the chance to see her live, DO NOT MISS IT! She’s one of the most skilled and intimidating females on the indies today.

#5 Shayna Baszler (@qosbaszler)-The #5 spot belongs to someone who won yet another tournament, meaning that tournaments played a role in rankings 1-5 this week. The Absolute Intense Wrestling Women’s and PREMIER Women’s Champion defeated Lena Kross in the first round at New Horizons Pro Wrestling on 5/26, then defeated Sway in the semifinals and Madison Eagles in the final on 5/27 to win the Indy Gurlz Australia Global Conflict Tournament to go 3-0 for the week. On any other week she would have had a solid shot at #1, but this week was just STACKED with competition. Look out for Shayna Baszler to try to build on this momentum as 2017 rolls on.

#6 Anthony Henry

#7 Jurn Simmons

#8 Matt Riddle

#9 Zack Sabre Jr.

#10 People’s Champ. Andrew Duckworth (@drew_duckworth)-The NEW NCW and NEW GPW Southern States Champion gets into the Top 10 this week after defeating Jagged Edge on 5/26 at NCW to win the title and then beating Torque on 5/27 at GPW to win their title to go 2-0 for the week. Those wins combined with him winning the online voting competition with a very impressive 109 votes pushed him into the #10 spot this week. The now TWO-time People’s Champ (his last win was the Week of October 24th, 2016) is going strong right now and if he can continue to win and defend his titles, he may be a force to reckon with in 2017. Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of May 22nd, 2017

#1 High Profile (Shea Shea McGrady & Will Demented)-What a breakout week for the team of High Profile who put themselves on the Map after becoming the NEW APW Tag Team Champions and winning the Tom Estes Memorial Tag Team Tournament. They defeated Sons of Steel (Boomer Payne & Brice Anthony) in the first round, then defeated Deon Johnson & Sweet Dreamz in the semifinals, and defeated James Drake (US) and Rob Killjoy in the finals on 5/20 to win the tournament & the titles. They then defeated Ace Austin & Malakai Matthews at PWX 5/21 to go 4-0 for the week. Their work wasn’t finished there as they collected 46 votes in the online voting competition to come in third in the fan voting. They were unanimous #1’s among the official voters as they now put themselves in the position for perhaps future rankings.

#2 Catch Point aka Doom Patrol/Team Pazazu (Chris Dickinson & Jaka)-The former #1 Tag Team in The Tag Team Top 5 and current EVOLVE Tag Team Champions continued their success over the weekend with two successful title defenses. First, they defeated Isaias Velazquez & Matt Knicks at EVOLVE on 5/20 to retain the titles and then defeated The High Flyers (Jason Kincaid & Austin Theory) on 5/21 to retain again to go 2-0 for the week. This is a team who has really hit their groove together in 2017 and with them now having a #1 and a #2 ranking to their credit, they should be a major player in this year’s Tag Team Top 50.

#3 The Dawson Brothers (Dave & Zane Dawson)-#4 in the online voting competition with 21 votes

#4 Penta El Zero M & Rey Fenix

#5 The Carnies (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TheCarniesTN)

People’s Champs. Oliver Street Express (Andrew Cravatta & Randy Philbrick)-The Empire State Wrestling Tag Team Champions make their mark in the Tag Team Top 5 as they picked up a HUGE win over the weekend when they defeated Rochester Wrecking Crew (Hellcat & Rob Sweet), Hate Brigade (Bobby Sapphire & Roscoe Black) and To Infinity and Beyond (Cheech & Colin Delaney) on 5/20 to retain the titles in a four-way. They took that momentum and parlayed it into their first People’s Champs award as they collected 96 votes to win the online voting competition by a 30 vote margin. You’ll want to check this tag team out on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/OliverStExpress

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of May 22nd, 2017

#1 Zack Sabre Jr. (@zacksabrejr)-The 2016 IPR 100 #1 is BACK at #1 in the Top 10 once again this week and it’s well-deserved as the official voters unanimously selected him as the top wrestler on the indies for the past week. The PWG World, RevPro British Heavyweight and EVOLVE Champion defeated Trent ? at PWG on 5/19 to retain the title, then beat Ethan Page at EVOLVE on 5/20 to retain their title, and then beat Lio Rush at EVOLVE on 5/21 to retain again with a 3-0 record for the week. There just wasn’t any doubt about who was #1 this week as ZSJ dominated against three top-level talents on arguably the biggest independent wrestling stages over the weekend. ZSJ is on his way to a strong fight towards a second year at #1 in the IPR 100. Can he make it happen? Time will tell.

#2 Rickey Shane Page (@RickeyShanePage)-As we said in previous editions of the Indy Power Rankings, Death Match Tournament season is in full swing. Once again the winner of a big death match tournament scores a big ranking in this week’s Top 10 as RSP outlasted some of the best death match talent in the world to win his first IWA Mid-South King of the Death Matches. Last year’s CZW Tournament of Death Winner defeated Brad Cash, Byrant Wood and Masada in a Great American BBQ Death, Total Elimination Match at IWA Mid-South on 5/20 in the first round of the tournament, then defeated Devon Moore in a Kevin Hogan Memorial Box Of Death, Barbed Wire Boards, Taipei Match in the semifinals, and then defeated John Wayne Murdoch in a House of Horrors Death Match in the final to win the King of the Death Matches 2017 with a 3-0 record for the week.

#3 Keith Lee (@RealKeithLee)-2017 continues to a break-out year for Keith Lee as he racks up yet another ranking in the Top 10. The Inspire Pro Pure Prestige, VIP Heavyweight, and ½ of the VIP Tag Team Champions defeated Trevor Lee at PWG on 5/19, then defeated Donovan Dijak at EVOLVE on 5/20, and then defeated Fred Yehi at EVOLVE on 5/21 to go 3-0 for the week. Those three victories were tremendous and continued to help build his resume as one of the top independent wrestlers over the last few months. The big man continues to astound crowds all over North America and there’s little doubt you’ll continue to see his name in the Top 10 as the year rolls on.

#4 Matt Riddle (@SuperKingofBros)-BRO just continues to establish himself as one of the truly great wrestlers on the indies right now and this past weekend was more evidence of that fact. The PROGRESS Atlas and WWN Champion teamed with Jeff Cobb at PWG on 5/19 to defeat reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) then defeated Kyle O’Reilly at EVOLVE on 5/20 to retain the WWN title, and then defeated Jeff Cobb at EVOLVE on 5/21 to retain again to go 3-0 for the week. The only reason he wasn’t even higher in this week’s Top 10 is that one of his wins was a tag team win, albeit an impressive one. Matt Riddle continues to scratch and crawl towards the top spot in this year’s IPR 100.

#5 Draven Lee-It was a really good week for Draven Lee as he picked up his first ranking after winning the 2017 Pound 4 Pound Cup. He defeated Sean Stephens at Glory Pro on 5/19 in the first round, then defeated James Anthony in the semifinals, and then defeated Chase Owens in the final the same day to win the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. His victory over Owens was particularly impressive as it was the only loss of the week for Owens who otherwise would have swept the weekend with a 4-0 record. Draven Lee is looking to establish himself as a player on the indies as 2017 continues.

#6 Tracy Williams

#7 Sammi Jayne

#8 Anthony Henry

#9 Cody Rhodes

#10 People’s Champ. AC Riley (@WrongAlexRiley)- AC Riley picked up another W in the online voting competition this week, but it wasn’t easy as he had several talents nipping at his heels. In the end, he won out with 95 votes. He got on the poll as the RWA Heavyweight Champion fought D.W.Eeb to a no contest at Brew City Wrestling on 5/19 and then defeated James Hunter, Jay Leo, & Jason Creed in a four-way at RWA on 5/20 to retain the title and go 1-0-1 for the week. AC Riley remains ultra-popular as he has won countless People’s Champs awards over the last few years. Like his Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/ACRileyWI/

5/21 PWX ‘What Lies Beneath’ Results Concord, NC

PWX Innovative Television Champion Elijah Evans IV w/ THE Tommy Thomas defeated “The New Age Enforcer” James Drake to retain

Prior to the match special guest General Manager WWE Hall of Famer Teddy Long banned Evans’ Syndicate teammates from ringside but it was interference from THE Tommy Thomas (and a sledgehammer shot) that lead to Evans retaining his championship once again

High Profile (Shea Shea McGrady & Will Demented) defeated Ace Austin & Malakai Matthews in a TAG TEAM Match made by Teddy Long

Tracer X defeated “The Revolutionary” Darius Lockhart in their ‘Final Confrontation’

Corey Hollis defeated “The Product” David Starr

Following the match Hollis continued to assault Starr’s knee (which he had focused on during the match) and was about to “Pillmanize” the leg until John Skyler ran out for the save. Hollis tried to goad Skyler into a fight but once again this month Skyler refused

“The Southern Savior” John Skyler defeated Jonathan Gresham

Hollis remained at ringside and did commentary for the match continuing to try and get Skyler to fight him. Following the match Hollis attacked Gresham but after officials got Gresham clear of Hollis, Skyler just left again without confrontation

Zane Riley came to the ring next interrupting Teddy Long and told the WWE Hall of Famer the only thing he has left to do tonight is make a “1 on 1 match with THE UNDERTAKER” Long said that’s exactly what he was going to do and the familiar music of “The Deadman” hit and we got WHITE MIKE!!! “Manscout’ Jake Manning joined the fray after Riley attacked White Mike and we had a triple threat match

“Manscout” Jake Manning defeated Zane Riley and White Mike pinning Riley after an underhook DDT

Near the end of the match Riley called “Time Out” thanked the fans and was promptly DDT’d by Manning for the pin. Riley then left his REVOLT arm band in the middle of the ring

The Syndicate (Timmy Lou Retton & Devan Knight) w/ THE Tommy Thomas defeated PWX Tag Team Champions The Ugly Ducklings (Rob Killjoy & Lance Lude) to win the championships. Knight took Lude out of the match with a nasty Swan-TON bomb leaving Killjoy to fight on his own valiantly but three spinebusters put Killjoy down and won the Syndicate more PWX gold. ***TITLE CHANGE***

PWX World Champion Anthony Henry w/ Amber Young defeated Ethan Case via referee stoppage when Case could not respond to Referee Kevin Pierce’s commands while in a dragon sleeper. Case immediately snapped back into it and was very upset with the decision creating some controversy however the ruling stood and Henry retains the championship.

PWX returns to Charlotte, North Carolina and Club Escapade VIP on July 8th for a doubleheader with EVOLVE. ‘Like’ PWX on facebook follow them on twitter @PWXWrestling for all the latest info on the event.
