Indy Power Rankings for the Week of September 18th, 2017

#1 Aaron Williams (@PlanetWilliams1)-“The Baddest Man Alive” is now a TWO TIME, TWO TIME #1! The back-to-back #1 earned his top ranking through attrition as he won the IWA Mid-South World Title in a tournament to crown a new champion last week and then took that title into the 2017 Ted Petty Invitational Tournament and defended it successfully throughout the tournament and then one more time AFTER the tournament the same night. He defeated Arik Cannon at IWA Mid-South on 9/14 to retain the title in the first round, then defeated David Starr in the second round on 9/15 to retain again, then defeated Eddie Kingston in the third round the same day to retain again, then defeated Jonathan Gresham and Jake Crist in a three-way final to retain again and to win the Ted Petty Invitational tournament, and then defeated Devon Moore the same day to retain again to go 5-0 for the week. This was no contest as all the official voters had him at #1 for a second straight week. He also came in second in the online voting competition with 59 votes from his fans and supporters. NO ONE is more deserving of these accolades than Aaron Williams.

#2 Matt Tremont (@TremontCZW)-The former #1 and current GCW, Superstars of Wrestling Federation Hardcore and ½ of the Tier 1 Tag Team Champions took a page out of Aaron Williams’s playbook as he took his GCW Title into the NGI over the weekend and defended the title in every round. The now SEVEN TIME Death Match Tournament winner defeated Shlak in the first round at Game Changer Wrestling on 9/16, then defeated Mideo Extremo in the semifinals, and then defeated Nick Gage in the final the same day to win the Nick Gage Invitational tournament, retaining his GCW title in all three matches to go 3-0 for the week. Tremont has gone on record stating that this was his last death match tournament and he has gone out on top.

#3 Josh Briggs (@TheJoshBriggs)-It’s the highest ranking ever for Josh Briggs as the NEW Chaotic Wrestling New England Champion mowed through the competition to win the vacant title in the title tournament over the weekend. He defeated Adam Booker on 9/15 in the first round, then defeated Chase del Monte in the semis, and then defeated JT Dunn in the final to win the tournament and the vacant title to go 3-0 for the week. It was a week where multiple wrestlers benefited from tournaments and Briggs was no different as he achieved the #3 ranking.

#4 Joe Coffey (@Joe_Coffey)-Perhaps the biggest, most high profile victory over the weekend was the one over NXT-contracted Kassius Ohno at ICW. The Scottish Heavyweight, Insane Championship Wrestling World Heavyweight and NEW Discovery Wrestling Y Division Champion defeated James Drake (UK) at British Championship Wrestling on 9/15, then defeated Lewis Girvan in a 2 out of 3 falls match at Discovery Wrestling on 9/16 to win the title, and then scored that all important victory over Kassius Ohno on 9/17 to retain the ICW World Title. A 3-0 record gets him a #4 ranking after a stellar week in the UK.

#5 Jonathan Gresham (@TheJonGresham)-“The Octopus” had one hell of a week despite coming up just short in the 2017 Ted Petty Invitational Tournament. He defeated Anthony Henry at IWA Mid-South on 9/14 in the first round, then defeated Devon Moore in the quarterfinals on 9/15, then defeated Larry D in the semifinals, then lost to Aaron Williams in a triple threat final, and then defeated Tracer X at PWX Wrestling on 9/16 to go 4-1 for the week. A #5 ranking is nothing to be ashamed of for the former CZW Best of the Best and we expect him to build on that ranking as the year goes on.

#6 Keyra

#7 Matt Riddle

#8 Ricky Knight Jr.

#9 Frank Wyatt

#10 Trey Miguel

People’s Champ. Kevin Ray-The NEW Palmetto Championship Wrestling United States Champion was put on the poll after he defeated Mister Sleaze and James Johnson on 9/15 to retain the title. His fans took care of the rest as he narrowly edged out our official #1 Aaron Williams for the People’s Champ award this week with 68 votes. Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of September 11th, 2017

#1 #CCK (Chris Brookes & Kid Lykos)-How does a team with only one victory get the #1 ranking over multiple teams who had more than one win? Simple. They went out and beat 2/3’s of last week’s #1 team AND took the VERY important PROGRESS Tag Team Titles. The CZW World Tag Team Champions and NEW PROGRESS Tag Team Champions defeated British Strong Style/Moustache Mountain (Tyler Bate & Trent Seven) at PROGRESS on 9/10 to win the titles. That victory alone meant so much that it catapulted them into the #1 ranking once again. It has been a FANTASTIC 2017 for #CCK and their year-end ranking in the Tag Team Top 50 will likely reveal just how good it really has been.

#2 Tribe Vanguard (YAMATO & Yosuke Santa Maria)-This Dragon Gate duo end up with a #2 ranking after four big victories this past week. Unfortunately for them, their victories weren’t quite good enough to get them the #1 spot, but a #2 ranking is nothing to be ashamed of. They defeated Eita & Masaaki Mochizuki at Dragon Gate on 9/4, then defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora & Jimmy Susumu) on 9/5, then defeated Masaaki Mochizuki and Gamma on 9/9, and then teamed with BxB Hulk on 9/10 to defeat MaxiMuM (Naruki Doi, Masato Yoshino and Ben-K) to go 4-0 for the week. It’s a great start to a path to the #1 ranking if they can keep up this momentum.

#3 Zodiak & Mance Warner

#4 East Coast Bastard Crew (Jeremy Leary & Skylar)

#5 Bomb Shelter (Zodiak & Joseph Schwartz)

People’s Champs. Defiance (Maximo Suave & Chris Cayden)-The UPW Tag Team Champions scored a big victory over the weekend at beat The Kayfabe Dojo Wrestling Tag Team Champions The Wrestling Liberation Front, Wrecking U, and The Board of Directors in a Four-Way Non-Title Elimination Match at UPW on 9/9. That victory got them into the online voting competition. The fans took care of the rest as they picked up 44 votes to win their first People’s Champs award. Indy Power Rankings for the Week of September 11th, 2017

#1 Aaron Williams (@PlanetWilliams1)-“The Baddest Man Alive” has been getting ranked in the Indy Power Rankings since 2014 and this is the very first time he’s been #1. It’s well-deserved as he went through 3 opponents to become IWA Mid-South World Champion for a second time on 9/9. On 9/7 he defeated Sage Phillips at IWA Mid-South, then entered the tournament on 9/9 where he beat Calvin Tankman, then Tripp Cassidy, and then finally DINGO in the finals to win the vacant title with a 4-0 record for the week. Williams now has TPI ahead of him as he looks to win yet another big tournament as he shoots for a second straight #1 ranking. You can watch his thoughts on TPI 2017 here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8dubCexOF3Y

#2 Mattick (@Mattick585)-This talent out of Rochester, NY gets his highest ranking to date as he won the Upstate 8 Tournament on 9/9. He defeated Eddie Kingston in the first round at Upstate Pro Wrestling on 9/9 and then beat Cheech, Jay Freddie, and Gregory Iron in a Four-Way to win the tournament. He followed that up with a HUGE win over Sean Maluta at NTW to finish off his week with a 3-0 record for the week. Trained by Colin Delaney and Marc Hauss, Mattick has been quietly making a name for himself in New York over the last couple of years. You can book him at Mattick585@yahoo.com

#3 Tyler Bateman (@gdmtylerbateman)-The Santino Bros Champion gets his highest ranking yet after he won the SoCal Strong Style Tournament at FIST Combat on 9/9. It was a week of tournaments as the Top 3 all won tournaments. In the first round he defeated Jesse James and then beat Brody King and Ruby Raze in a Triple Threat Final to win the tournament. He then beat Scorpio Sky at Championship Wrestling from Hollywood on 9/10 to go 3-0 for the week. He has been ON FIRE lately and his ranking finally matched up with just how good he’s been over the last several months. Keep an eye on him as he looks to secure a spot in this year’s IPR 100.

#4 Travis Banks (@Travis_BanksPW)-It has been meteoric rise to stardom in 2017 for Travis Banks as he just continues to dominate the UK independent scene. Banks picked up arguably the biggest single victory over the weekend as ½ of the RevPro British Tag Team Champions added the PROGRESS Wrestling Heavyweight Title to his collection after defeating Pete Dunne on 9/10 to win the title. It was perhaps the biggest win of his entire career as Travis Banks just continues to rack up rankings to add to his potential ranking in this year’s IPR 100. We’re just over 3 months away from the release!

#5 TJ Marconi (@TJMarconi)-This member of the Crusade for Change gets a big singles ranking as he picked up not one, but TWO new tiltes over the weekend. He defeated Eric Jayden at BWF on 9/7 to win the Bronx Wrestling Federation Title, then beat Adam Payne at SWF on 9/8, then beat Vinny Cenzo at SWF on 9/9 to win the Superstars of Wrestling Federation Heavyweight Title, and then beat Aaron Nasty at NTW on 9/10 to go 4-0 for the week. It was a VERY impressive week for Marconi who is really starting to come into his own with victories in whatever promotion he’s competing in week in and week out.

#6 WALTER

#7 Trevor Lee

#8 Mike Law

#9 Shane Strickland

#10 People’s Champ. Kevin Ryan-1/2 of the Omega Virus scored an impressive victory over the weekend when he defeated Cameron Action on 9/8 to win the ProSouth Wrestling All Out Title. He’s been doing very well in tag team competition this year, but this may be his big singles breakout moment as he just edged out Alan Angel to win this week’s online voting competition this week. This is his first time winning the People’s Champ award in the Indy Power Rankings.
