Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of May 26th, 2014

1. The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield & Mark Angelosetti)-Surprisingly, this isn’t just their first #1 ranking in the Tag Team Top 5, but it’s their first ranking at all. They’ve earned a mention in the past, but their success over the weekend earned them the #1 spot this week. They won the WIF! Tag World Grand Prix 2014 when they defeated Knight Eye for the Pirate Guy and The Devastation Corporation on 5/24 and then followed that up with a Four Way Tag Team Elimination win at CHIKARA on 5/25 vs. 3.0, GEKIDO, and The Pieces of Hate. Their 7 straight wins were enough to convince the voters to the point that they almost swept all of the official voters’ ballots at #1. #2 in the online poll.

2. The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter)-The PGP, Zero-1 USA, and JCW Tag Team Champions looked like they might be in big trouble this week after they lost to White America on 5/22 at IWA Mid-South but they bounced back with wins at IWA Midwest vs. Guns & Beer and The Viking War Party in a 3 Way and then they had 2 more wins at Sky Pro vs. Blue Collar Heroes and PS Express. They have won 18 of their last 24 matches (only 5 losses). If you keep up with our Tag Team Top 50 updates on Twitter as the year goes along, you’ll know that this just adds to their dominance at #1 on the entire indies this year. #3 in the online poll.

3. Country Jacked (Corey Hollis & Adam Page)-The former #1’s in the Tag Team Top 5 returned to their winning ways over the weekend as they defeated Elliot Russell & Sigmon on 5/24 at PWX and then followed that up with a win vs. The Bravado Brothers on 5/25 at PWX. Their 2-0 record on the weekend is pretty par for the course for them, but what they’re lacking that could assist them on their way back to #1 is some gold. Could that be their next step in PWX? They’ve accomplished almost everything they’ve put their minds to so far this year, including being People’s Champs this week after winning the online poll, although they say they don’t want, nor do they need our accolades.

4. The London Riots (James Davis & Rob Lynch)-The IPW: UK British Tag Team Champions once again return to the Tag Team Top 5 after defeating D&D Security on 5/25 to retain the titles. Their 8 straight wins as a team was enough to push them up again one more spot. When will their time come for a #1 ranking? Their consistency has been inarguable, so perhaps if that continues, you’ll see it sooner rather than later. There are very few teams more deserving than them right now.

5. White America (Josh Crane & Tripp Cassidy)-While the team of “White America” has been ranked before, this is the first time this combination of the group has been in the Tag Team Top 5. They are a relatively new combination for the Reed Bentley-led group and they have already beaten the two top teams (currently) in the Tag Team Top 50 in Team IOU and The Hooligans. Their win vs. The Hooligans on 5/22 at IWA Mid-South combined with their victory vs. Team IOU the previous week was enough to impress voters enough to put them on their ballots, almost across the board. With a win vs. BJ Whitmer & Michael Elgin on Thursday 5/29, they could find themselves in contention for a #1 ranking next week. #5 in the online poll.
