Indy Power Rankings for the Week of July 10th, 2017

#1 Anthony Henry (@AntnyHenry)-The PWX Heavyweight and ½ of the NEW EVOLVE Tag Team Champions gets his THIRD #1 ranking of 2017, fourth overall, and his second straight. It has been an incredible year for Anthony Henry after getting his first #1 ranking towards the end of 2016. He defeated Ethan Case at PWX on 7/8 to retain the title, then teamed with James Drake at Evolve the same day to defeat Catch Point (Jaka & Chris Dickinson) to win the titles, then defeated William Huckaby at Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment on 7/9, then teamed with James Drake (US) the same day at Evolve to defeat Catch Point (Chris Dickinson & Jaka) and The Ugly Ducklings (Lance Lude & Rob Killjoy) in a triple threat to retain the titles to go 4-0 for the week. What’s really interesting about his ranking this week is that none of the official voters had him at #1, but they all had him high in their ballots. It was the FAN VOTE that actually pushed him up to the #1 spot overall, proving once again that the FAN VOTE MATTERS.

#2 Shazza McKenzie (@Shazza_McKenzie)-1/2 of the Professional Wrestling Australia Tag Team Champions and NEW Heart of SHIMMER Champion gets VERY close to her first #1 ranking, but has to settle at #2 this week. Of course #2 is never anything to be ashamed of as she had a stellar weekend at SHIMMER. She teamed with Madison Eagles & Saraya Knight at SHIMMER on 7/8 to defeat Trifecta (Mercedes Martinez, Nicole Savoy & Shayna Baszler) then defeated Nicole Savoy the same day to win the title, then beat Nicole Matthews to retain the title on 7/9, and then beat Courtney Rush the same day to go 4-0 for the week. She actually had 4 different official voters who had her at #1 on their ballots, but her fan vote couldn’t compare to Henry and she lost out on her chance to be #1 this week. That said, this ranking will push her into contention for this year’s IPR 100. If she can continue her success, she’ll most likely solidify her spot in the year-end IPR 100 when December comes around.

#3 Shane Strickland (@StricklandShane)-“Swerve” continues a career year for him as the WrestleCircus Ringmaster, 1/3 of the Lucha Underground Trios Champions, NEW CZW, and NEW DEFY Wrestling Champion gets yet another ranking this year. He scored perhaps the biggest single victory of the entire weekend as he defeated Davey Richards, Lio Rush, and Joe Gacy in a Four-Way at CZW on 7/8 to win both titles. When you look up and down the Top 10, you see multiple competitiors with several wins, but all Strickland needed was one HUGE win in order to get another high ranking. With four titles on his mantle now, he’s continuing to prove that he’s a force to be reckoned with in 2017.

#4 Cody Rhodes (@CodyRhodes)-The ROH World, NEW Heavyweight, and ½ of the Alpha1 Tag Team Champions moves up from #7 to #4 this week after yet another outstanding week on the indies. He teamed with Joey Ryan at Bar Wrestling on 7/4 to defeat PPRay (Peter Avalon & Ray Rosas) then defeated Willie Mack at All Pro Wrestling on 7/7 to retain the ROH title (which counted towards our ranking since it was not at ROH) and then defeated Michael Elgin at Glory Pro on 7/9 to go 3-0 for the week. So two big singles wins and an impressive tag team victory get Cody into the #4 spot this week. Despite a breakneck schedule for ROH, New Japan, etc… he still manages to find time to win spectacular matches on the indies which generally equals rankings in our Top 10.

#5 Chuck Taylor (@SexyChuckieT)-The NEW PWG World Champion could be the man to make another argument as having won the biggest match of the weekend when he beat Zack Sabre Jr. for the title at PWG on 7/7. He built on that victory as DUSTIN where he defeated Sloan Caprice at CHIKARA on 7/8 and then (as Mr. Azerbaijan) likely cost himself an even higher ranking when he lost to Razerhawk the same day to go 2-1 for the week. Regardless of the outcome of the week as a whole, this is still one of the highest rankings for Taylor in quite some time as he now holds one of the most important titles in North America.
#6 Kotaro Suzuki
#7 Jason Kincaid
#8 Zachary Wentz
#9 Jushin ‘Thunder Liger
#10 Shotzi Blackheart
People’s Champ. Rob Danger (@RobDanger1210)-The New Breed Pro Wrestling Wildcard Champion defeated Trey Camp, Big Dee, Hazard, and Jack Diamond in a Gauntlet Match on 7/8 to retain the title. That victory got him into the online voting competition (the fan poll) and after a tight battle with Roger Matheus, he came out on top with 58 votes to win this week’s Indy Power Rankings People’s Champ award.
