Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of February 27th, 2017

#1 The Fraternity (Channing Decker & Trent Gibson)-The online voting competition (fan vote) proved to be HUGE this week as it broke the tie between our #1 and #2 tag teams this week and placed the IWC Tag Team Champions in the #1 spot for the very first time. With the fan vote and the official voters’ votes combined, the vote was deadlocked, but the fact that The Fraternity received more fan votes than The Ugly Ducklings pushed them into the #1 ranking this week. It was well-deserved as they defeated Daniel Hooven & John McChesney on 2/25 to retain the IWC Tag Team Titles and then beat The Super Smash Bros (Evil Uno & Stu Grayson) at Greektown Pro Wrestling on 2/26 to go 2-0 for the week. Congratulations to the Fraternity on their first time at #1! #3 in the online voting competition with 24 votes

#2 The Ugly Ducklings (Rob Killjoy & Lance Lude @3MotherDuckers)-These ducks continue to fly together as the PWX and 2/3 of the PWF Universal 6 Man Tag Team Champions picked up two solid victories. First, they defeated Bad Dudes (Jeremiah & Pompano Joe) at Rockstar Pro on 2/22 and then beat Jacob Ryan & Mr. Sleaze on 2/26 to retain the titles at NAPW. While they just missed out on the #1 ranking, this is a team who has been #1 before and with the way this year has gone so far, you’ll see them sitting at #1 again in 2017 before it’s all said and done. Not only have they dominated North Carolina, they have taken their show on the road across the U.S. as they have been showing everyone on the indies that they are truly a force to be reckoned with. #5 in the online voting competition with 13 votes

#3 The Carnies (Nick Iggy & Kerry Awful @TheCarniesTN)-The 2016 Tag Team Top 50 #1 team are back to their winning ways this past week as the GWC Tag Team Champions defeated another well-established team in The Kraken at Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment to retain the titles over the weekend. While it was just one victory compared to a few other teams who had two, there was most certainly great quality to their win to go along with the prestige they’ve enjoyed from being #4 in the Tag Team Top 50 in 2014, #4 in 2015, and finally #1 in 2016. This is a team who have a lot going for them right now and whether it’s in companies we consider “independent” or not, it looks like 2017 is going to be another banner year for The Down South Dandy and The Music City Mutt.

#4 Smile Squash (Akito & Soma Takao)-Hard to argue with the inclusion of Smile Squash in the Tag Team Top 5 despite no fan votes received this week for the team. They picked up two victories last week as they teamed with HARASHIMA & Yasu Urano) at Dramatic Dream Team on 2/25 to defeat Happy Motel (Antonio Honda, Konosuke Takeshita & Trans Am Hiroshi) & Guanchulo and then defeated Guanchulo & Kouki Iwasaki on 2/26 to go 2-0 for the week. Keep an eye on them to see if they can continue this success as 2017 continues.

#5 Rob Terry & Kazushi Miyamoto-Perhaps the biggest surprise of the week was this duo that came out of NOWHERE to win the NWA World Tag Team Titles when they defeated Rob Conway & Matt Riviera at Diamond Stars Wrestling in Japan on 2/23. It was a huge win for a team that really didn’t have a lot of experience together. Like the Carnies, they only had one victory, but the importance of the win was so significant that it springboarded them into the Tag Team Top 5 over some other teams who had multiple victories. Time will tell if they will be able to sustain this momentum or if they’ll be one hit wonders.

People’s Champs. Final Hour (Scott Ronin & Justin Cole @FinalHour901)-Give a ton of credit to Final Hour as they were added to the poll a little late and still came in and dominated the online voting competition. This tag team picked up two wins over the weekend as they beat Irish Mafia at SGWA and then beat New Age Revolution at SPWA to go 2-0 for the week. They collected 83 votes from their fans and supporters to beat out Team HIIT for the People’s Champs award this week.
