Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of February 6th, 2017

#1 VerserK (Shingo Takagi, T-Hawk, & El Lindaman)-It’s the second #1 ranking for the VerserK stable out of Dragon Gate as they swept the ballots of the official voters at #1. This trio teamed with Cyber Kong to defeat Masaaki Mochizuki, Don Fujii, Big R Shimizu and Ben-K on 2/1, then teamed with Cyber Kong to defeat Naruki Doi, Ben-K, Big R Shimizu and Takehiro Yamamura on 2/2, then defeated Naruki Doi, Ben-K and Shun Skywalker on 2/4, and then teamed with Cyber Kong on 2/5 to defeat Naruki Doi, Masaaki Mochizuki, Big R Shimizu and Ben-K to go 4-0 for the week. Dragon Gate is all about the VerserK stable right now as they had a strong 2016 and they’re already having a monumental 2017. If they can put together the type of year that Monster Express had in 2015, they’re going to be a force to be reckoned with for the rest of 2017.

#2 Indy Card Mafia (Eric Emanon & Thomas Brewington)-The Indy Card Mafia are in the Tag Team Top 5 for the first time in 2017 as they picked up arguably the biggest single victory over the weekend as they won a stacked Gauntlet Match on 2/3 to win the Sanctuary Tag Team Titles. The IYFW Tag Champs added more gold as they defeated Mighty Militia, Bobby C & General George, The Amazing Graysons, Pretty & Gritty and Jamie Senegal & John Wes to win the titles. After a stellar 2016, it looks like we’re going to get more of the same from this primarily New York-based tag team who have absolutely no issue with traveling all over the country when the chances present themselves. Look out for a banner year from ICM this year once again. They were also #3 in the online voting competition with 33 votes this week.

#3 MANstache Main Event (Juan Jeremi & Waylon Maze @MANstacheTag)-The RWC Tag Team Champions add their first ranking of 2017 to their list of accomplishments as they defeated Side Effect and Zero Gravity in a Triple Threat on 2/4 to retain the titles. One victory vs. two solid tag teams gets them into the Tag Team Top 5 along with a decent showing in the online voting competition. This is a team that made frequent appearances in voting in 2016 and it appears that 2017 could be even more fruitful for the charismatic tag team. Keep an eye on them as 2017 rolls on.

#4 The Heatseekers (Elliott Russell & Sigmon)-The NWA United States Tag Team Champions added more gold to their collection over the weekend as they defeated The Ugly Ducklings at WVCW on 2/4 to win the West Virginia Championship Wrestling Tag Team Titles. The Heatseekers already have a reputation for being one of the better tag teams on the indies as it is, but with a title victory over a team like The Ugly Ducklings under their belt, they look to be in rare form right now. They enjoyed a fantastic 2015 and a decent 2016, but 2017 could end up being their best year yet.

#5 Tribe Vanguard (YAMATO & Kzy)-After being ranked #3 last week, this duo is back in the Tag Team Top 5 after picking up two solid wins to add more representation from Dragon Gate in Japan. They defeated CIMA and Takehiro Yamamura on 2/1 and then teamed with BxB Hulk on 2/4 to defeat Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu, Ryo “Jimmy” Saito and Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!) to go 2-0 for the week. 2017 has begun once again as the year of the Hooligans and the Dragon Gate promotion in Japan as the clock appears to have been turned back to 2015 where all of the aforementioned teams were dominated the independent wrestling world.

People’s Champs. Spirit of Detroit (Jon’tae & Cassidy Kieth)-It’s been a while for this team, but they picked up one of the biggest wins of their career over the weekend vs. The FBI (Little Guido and Tracy Smothers) on 2/5 to get on the poll. 89 votes later and they won another online voting competition. This team has really started picking up some momentum in recent months and you’ll want to follow them as their career continues down the path of success. Check out all their social media in their People’s Champs photo for this week!
