Indy Power Rankings for the Week of January 16th, 2017

#1 David Starr (@TheProductDS)-We have our first two-time #1 of 2017 as David Starr is once again #1 after a fantastic 3-0 weekend where he repeatedly defended and retained his wXw Shotgun Title in the United States. ON 1/13 he defeated Rude Boy Riley at Next Level Wrestling, then defeated Alexander James at Combat Zone Wrestling on 1/14, and then defeated Sami Callihan and Lio Rush in a triple threat at PWX on 1/15 to wrap up the week with a perfect record and his second #1 ranking. How good has David Starr been since winning the wXw Shotgun Title? He’s simply been unstoppable and in fact, if the 2017 IPR 100 were to come out today, he’d be sitting at #1 and making everyone “Look at it.”

#2 ACH (@GoGoACH)-It’s the second ranking of 2017 for the AAW Heritage Champion as he went to Canada for a BUSY week and managed to pick up wins in 5 of his 6 matches there. He defeated Michael Allen Richard Clark at Canadian Wrestling’s Elite on 1/10, then defeated Shane Sabre, Tony Kozina and Travis Cole in a four-way on 1/11, then lost to Tony Kozina on 1/12, then defeated Shigehiro Irie on 1/13, then defeated Shigehiro Irie again on 1/14, and then defeated Shane Sabre on 1/15 to go 5-1 for the week. This high-flyer is already making a push to prove that he’s still one of the very best independent wrestlers in the entire world in 2017.

#3 John Wayne Murdoch (@johnmurdoch25)-#1 last week. #3 this week. 2017 is already looking fantastic for “The Duke of Hardcore” as he is making the most of this IWA World Title reign. On 1/12 he defeated Derek Neal to retain the title and then beat Mance Warner on 1/14 to retain once again. JWM has been killing it lately and it appears that this particular reign at the top of IWA Mid-South will be his most productive yet. With IWA running at least one show a week, he’s going to have many opportunities to pick up victories to try to rack up rankings until his title run comes to an end. Look out for Murdoch as a top contender for the 2017 IPR 100’s top spot…as he always says “What if?”

#4 LuFisto (@lufisto)-The NEW SHINE Champion gets her first ranking in quite some time as she took full advantage of her opportunity to win the vacant title on 1/13. A victory over both Mercedes Martinez and Allysin Kay in a Triple Threat on 1/13 meant a lot to the official voters and fans alike as she proved to still have what it takes as one of the top female wrestlers in the entire world. With the SHINE title now around her waist, look out for LuFisto to look to continue this success as 2017 rolls on.

#5 Matt Riddle (@riddletuf7)-It appears that 2016 was just a taste of how impressive Matt Riddle is going to be in the coming years. Riddle became the NEW PROGRESS Atlas Champion after beating Rampage Brown at PROGRESS on 1/15 to win the title. It was an important weekend as there’s a good chance that Riddle impressed many WWE officials who were in the UK for the UK Championship Tournament. That being said, with him now holding an important title and consistently working all around the globe, Matt Riddle is going to be a force to be reckoned with once again this year.
#6 Dave Crist
#7 Jake Garvin
#8 People’s Champ. Kongo Kong (@RealKongoKong)-“Da Monsta” just does…NOT…STOP. After a week where he worked at TNA (which doesn’t count towards our rankings) he still managed to beat two of the strongest men at the sport at FWF on 1/14 to retain the FWF Title. The monsta who has been #3, #4, and #4 again in the past 3 years in the IPR 100 just continues to dominate the indies as he is currently the FWF, JCW, Crossfire, Strong Style Wrestling, and XICW Proving Ground Champion. It appears that his dominance will continue in 2017 as this is his second straight week with a ranking AND once again, he has won the online voting competition with 75 votes as he beat out perennial winner Corey Storm for the top spot. This week’s People’s Champ got a lot of support from everyone at Strong Style Wrestling as the big man showed everyone just how popular he has become.
