Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of January 2nd, 2017

#1 The Mighty Cocksmen (Zane Riley & Lance Lude)-What a debate this was for the #1 spot in the Tag Team Top 5 this week! The official voters were split almost 50/50 between The Mighty Cocksmen and Kazusada Higuchi/Yoshihisa Uto for the #1 ranking. In the end, The Mighty Cocksmen just BARELY edged Higuchi and Uto out for their first ranking…a #1. The NEW PWF Crystal Coast Tag Team Champions won the titles as they defeated Timmy Lou Retton & Bobby Wohlfert in the first round at PWF on 12/30, then defeated Michael Spencer & Will Huckaby in the semifinals, and then defeated Jagger & Patrick Scott in the final to win the tournament for the gold. With 2017 off and rolling, Riley and Lude are off to a great start.

#2 Kazusada Higuchi and Yoshihisa Uto-So the team who barely gets beat out for the #1 ranking end up #2, but did they deserve #1? It’s hard to say as they won a huge Five Promotion Shuffle Tag Team Tournament on 12/31. At the joint BJW/Wrestle-1/Kaientai Dojo/DDT/Basara event they defeated Daisuke Sekimoto & HARASHIMA in the first round, then defeated Manabu Soya & Takayuki Ueki in the second round, then defeated Isami Kodaka & Yuko Miyamoto in the semifinals, and then defeated Hideyoshi Kamitani & Konosuke Takeshita in the final to win the tournament with a 4-0 record for the week. This is a hell of a start for the team if they continue to team and pick up victories as 2017 moves forward.

#3 Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate)-A very good 2016 leads to an impressive start to 2017 as the CHIKARA Campeonatos de Parejas add more gold to their mantle as they beat The London Riots and The LDRS (Marty Scurll & Zack Sabre Jr.) in a Triple Threat at PROGRESS on 12/30 to win the PROGRESS Tag Team Titles. The official voters saw the strength of competition along with the defeat of two teams in one match, combined with the important title win as a good reason to jump any other teams (aside from #1 and #2) into the #3 ranking this week. Moustache Mountain, now with 2 sets of tag team titles, could very well make a great run at this year’s Tag Team Top 50 if they can continue this type of success.

#4 People’s Champs. The Peacemakers (Jeremiah Plunkett & Buzz Dupp)-We had one VERY competitive online voting competition this week until the later hours when The Peacemakers separated themselves as the People’s Champs this week with 128 votes. The fan vote helped the SWF Tag Team Champions solidify their position at the #4 spot this week after they beat last week’s #2 The Hooligans for the vacant SWF Tag Team Titles. This Southern tag team has been quietly making a name for themselves, but now they jump into the Tag Team Top 5 as winners of the online voting competition after a very notable weekend. Give them a like on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/PeacemakersTagTeam/

#5 The Carnies (Nick Iggy, Kerry Awful, & Tripp Cassidy)-The three-man version of the Carnies get the #5 spot this week after helping Iggy and Awful to win the AWE Tag Team Titles last week. On 12/27 (the night before a very important call to the Tag Team Top 50 Reveal for 2016) this three-man team beat The Hierarchy (Iceburg, Murder One, and Chip Day) in a Steel Cage Match to get the titles awarded to Iggy and Awful. They also came in second in the online voting competition with 69 votes as they start off 2017 with a set of prestigious tag team titles for their faction. Look out for them in 2017 as they have the potential to be ranked as a three-man team or as the classic two-man team that the former Team IOU has been most known for.
