Indy Power Rankings for the Week of January 2nd, 2017

#1 David Starr (@TheProductDS)-The wXw Shotgun Champion CONTINUES to add prestige to that title as he continues to defend AND retain the title in the United States. This week he adds just a bit more importance to the belt as he obtains his very first #1 ranking in the Indy Power Rankings (singles). On 12/27 he took his title to AWE where he defeated 2013 IPR 100 #1 Michael Elgin to retain the title and then went up to the Northeast where he defeated former #1 Jonathan Gresham at Beyond Wrestling on 12/29 to retain the title again. A 2-0 record against two of the best talents in all of the indies gets him a unanimous #1 from the official voters. “The Product” has begun 2017 by making EVERYONE “LOOK AT IT!”

#2 People’s Champ. Corey Storm (@corey_storm24)-It’s week two of the Indy Power Rankings for the 2017 year (last week was the first official week for us) and Corey Storm has already racked up two People’s Champs awards, an official #1 rankings, and now a #2 ranking to go with his #1. While Storm missed out on the 2016 IPR 100 after winning the last People’s Champ award of the year, he is still on fire in 2017. This is his THIRD straight People’s Champ award as (correct us if we’re wrong) this is the first time that anyone has won three straight online voting competitions in singles. He made his way onto the poll after the WCWO Fight or Die Champion beat Nick Depp at IWA Mid-South on 12/29 and then beat Joey Kidd Owens TWICE at WCWO on 12/30 to retain the title twice. His 3-0 record plus fan vote was plenty enough to get him to #2 this week. Follow him on Instagram @coreystorm24

#3 ACH (@GoGoACH)-AAW enters 2017 as STILL one of the most important indies in the minds of the official Indy Power Rankings voters. Since AAW is so well thought of, ACH’s AAW Heritage Title win vs. AR Fox on 12/30 was just one factor that shot him up to the #3 spot this week. Along with that, his victory over a former Indy Power Rankings #1 most definitely helped his strength of competition and of course, ACH is one of the best high-flyers in the world so his own personal prestige and fan following was strong as well. With ACH no longer under an exclusive deal and likely more active all over the indies, he should be a strong contender for a high ranking in the 2017 version of the IPR 100. Time will tell if that comes to fruition.

#4 Risa Sera (@Sera_Risa)-It’s tough to deny someone a Top 10 ranking after winning a tournament, much less one that ends in a title victory. ON 12/29 Risa Sera started her week off as she teamed with Maya Yukihi at RIZIN to defeat Tequila Saya & Tsukasa Fujimoto. She then defeated Hiragi Kurumi at Ice Ribbon on 12/31 in the semifinals of the ICExInfinity Title Tournament and then defeated Tsukasa Fujimoto in the final the same day to win the vacant title to go 3-0 for the week. While the voters don’t give a ton of credit (in the singles rankigns) to a tag victory, it was winning the title tournament that most likely helped push her all the way to the #4 spot this week.

#5 Martin Stone (@TheGuvnorMStone)-One of the biggest single victories over the weekend was by the NWA FUW Flash and FIP Florida Heritage Champion as he added another title to his collection when he dethroned Jimmy Rave at AWE on 12/27 to end his 558 day title reign and win the GWC Championship. His match with Shane Strickland at Pro Wrestling 2.0 on 12/29 ended in a draw which is likely the only thing that kept him from an even higher ranking this week. That being said, his fans rallied behind him as they collected 33 votes to solidify his ranking and put him at #2 in this week’s online voting competition. Stone has been solid the past few years, but 2017 may just be his best year yet. We shall see.
#6 Matt Riddle
#7 Manami Toyota
#8 Alex Daniels
#9 Trevor Lee
#10 Pete Dunne
