Indy Power Rankings for the Week of December 5th, 2016

#1 Tony Deppen (@Tony_Deppen)-The TRUE Wrestling and NEW On Point Wrestling Champion gets his first-ever ranking, which just so happens to be a #1 ranking this week! He won the Masters of the Mat Tournament on 12/3 as he beat Steve Scott in the first round, then beat Gran Akuma in Round 2, and then beat Unbreakable Andy in the finals to win the tournament. As if that wasn’t enough, he defeated Joey Janela the same night to win the OPW Title to go 4-0 for the week. It was an absolute marathon for Deppen but in the end, he came away with a very deserving #1 ranking as he now cements his name as one of the independent wrestlers to look out for as 2017 is just around the corner. Will he make this year’s IPR 100? You’ll have to tune in here starting on 12/27 to find out:

#2 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-Last year’s #3 in the IPR 100 gets his highest ranking this year after a spectacular week in the UK. He is the NEW What Culture Pro Wrestling Champion after defeating Joseph Conners and Joe Hendry on 11/30 to win the title. He took that title and defended it successfully at BCW on 12/3 vs. Matt Hardy. There are reports that he scored two other wins, but we didn’t have those official results as of press time. That being said, Galloway is really starting to build momentum as we inch ever closer to this year’s IPR 100. While #3 will be tough to top, there’s little doubt you’ll see Galloway in this year’s IPR 100 for a third straight year.

#3 Chris Brookes (@OBEYBrookes)-The NEW wXw Shotgun Champion gets into the rankings this week after three straight victories for wXw. He beat Dave Crist on 12/2, then beat David Starr, Ilja Dragunov, and Dave Crist in a Four-Way on 12/3 to win the title, and then beat Dave Crist again to retain on 12/4 to go 3-0 for the week. It was a great week in Germany for this British Wrestler Extraordinaire as he is really starting to make a name for himself all over Europe. Time will tell if he can make the cut for this year’s IPR 100, but with gold around his waist now…his chances are improving!

#4 Jurn Simmons-The wXw Undisputed Wrestling Champion falls just one spot from last week after a very good week in wXw to continue his impressive run. On 12/2 he teamed with WALTER to defeat A4 (Absolute Andy & Marius Al-Ani) then beat Bad Bones John Klinger on 12/3 in a non-title match, and then beat Klinger again on 12/4 to retain the title to go 3-0 for the week. Scoring not one but TWO victories over Bad Bones is one hell of an accomplishment as Jurn Simmons is peaking at just the right time as we only have 2 more weeks of rankings that count towards this year’s IPR 100.

#5 Cody Rhodes (@CodyRhodes)-While his excellent performance at ROH’s Final Battle does NOT count towards the Indy Power Rankings, his victory over El Ligero on 11/30 DOES count. He took the GFW NEX-GEN Championship to the UK where he beat Ligero for the WCPW Internet Title AND retained the GFW Title to both retain his title and add a new title to his collection. Like Galloway 2 years ago and Sami Callihan last year, Cody has really hit the ground running this year after leaving the WWE as he just continues to pick up major victories AND titles no matter what promotion he competes in. Expect to see him make an impact in this year’s IPR 100.
#6 Kongo Kong-Tied for #3 in the online voting competition with 37 votes
#7 Dezmond Xavier
#8 JPE (Just Plain Evil)
#9 Ivan Kiev
#10 Kingston Eclipse
People’s Champ. Zachary Wentz (@zachary_wentz)-Rockstar Pro once again plays a big role in the online voting competition as their champion picks up another People’s Champ award after defeating JT Davidson to retain the title in a violent street fight. His loss in a Six-Way to Eric Ryan on 12/3 at Mega Championship Wrestling is likely the only thing that kept him from the official Top 10 this week. With his debut at IWA Mid-South upcoming, Wentz just continues to expand into different promotions all over the U.S. Follow him on Instagram at @zbangarangg and check out Scarlet & Graves here:
