Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 14th, 2016

#1 Mount Tessa (Tessa Blanchard & Vanessa Kraven)-3rd Generation Wrestler Tessa Blanchard teamed up with Vanessa Kraven over the weekend at SHIMMER and it turned out to be a recipe for success for the odd couple. On 11/13 they defeated Team Slap Happy at SHIMMER to win the Tag Team Titles and then followed that up with a win vs. BaleSpin (KC Spinelli & Xandra Bale) to retain the titles the same day. A 2-0 week and a HUGE tag team title win puts them at #1 for the week for the very first time. With as much parity as there has been at the #1 spot this year, Mount Tessa will be battling it out with multiple teams for a spot in the 2016 Tag Team Top 50. Can they make it happen? Tune in on 12/28 here to find out: http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/tscmd/tc/142608

#2 Catch Point (Tracy Williams & Fred Yehi)-The only other team who received support at the #1 position was the Catch Point team of Tracy Williams & Fred Yehi who scored a tremendous victory over the weekend as they won the EVOLVE Tag Team Titles. As always with EVOLVE, prestige of the promotion and titles played a major role in determining their overall ranking. On 11/13 they beat Chris Hero (subbing for Drew Galloway) & DUSTIN, Drew Gulak & Tony Nese, and The Gatekeepers (Blaster McMassive & Flex Rumblecrunch) in a Four-Way to win the titles. There’s absolutely an argument for this team at #1 this week, but in the end it was Mount Tessa edging them out for the top spot. This was the first ranking for this pairing, so if they can pull out some more wins in 2016, you may just hear their names called in the Tag Team Top 50. If not, there’s always next year.

#3 Los Ingobernables de Japon (SANADA & Tetsuya Naito)-This pair gets their first ranking as they teamed with EVIL at Revolution Pro on 11/10 to defeat Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) & David Starr and then defeated Leaders Of The New School (Marty Scurll & Zack Sabre Jr.) on 11/11 to go 2-0 for the week. That is some top talent they got through to get their ranking this week, so by all accounts, they absolutely earned it. Now the question is whether this is a one-time ranking or if they’ll be able to build on this before the end of the year to make an impact on this year’s Tag Team Top 50. 50 teams….over 400 teams mentioned this year. Will this team be among the elite?

#4 Da Hit Squad (Dan Maff & Monsta Mack)-The CZW World Tag Team Titles make their way into the Tag Team Top 5 yet again this year after a high-profile victory over Homicide & Low Ki in a Steel Cage Match at JAPW on 11/12. This tag team has been absolutely FANTASTIC in 2016 as they continue to surprise everyone with a career resurgence. There’s no doubt you’ll be seeing their names pop up in this year’s Tag Team Top 50, but the question is, how high will they be? They’re definitely staking their claims as one of the top teams of 2016 with rankings like this one.

#5 The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter @BeardedBullys)-Since the Tag Team Top 5 began in 2014, no team has been more consistent than the bearded bullies from Brutalsville. Hell, they’ve been #1 in the Tag Team Top 50 for two years running. The FIP and Zero1 USA Tag Team Champions defeated The Peacemakers (Jeremiah Plunkett & Buzz Dupp) at SWF on 11/11 and then beat The Radical Stars at WDWA on 11/12 to go 2-0 for the week. These Hooligans are chasing a third straight #1 ranking in this year’s Tag Team Top 50. Without about 6 weeks worth of eligibility to go, can they make it happen? They were #4 this week in the online voting competition with 26 votes.

People’s Champs. Filth (Brett Ison & JC Crow)-For a second time in 2016, Brett Ison & JC Crow have won the online voting competition. It was a two-day war between them and The Bambino Family, but in the end, they collected 249 votes from their fans and supporters to win out. The ASW and RTW Tag Team Champions defeated Yukon Jack and Mikey Dunn on 11/12 to retain both sets of titles, which of course got them on the poll. After that it was all about fans casting their vote and here they are, sitting atop the fan vote once again. Check out JC Crow on Twitter @InkubusCrow and Brett Ison on Twitter @StrngstylPitBul

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of November 14th, 2016

#1 Katsuyori Shibata-While there was some amazing talent in (and even just missing out on) the Top 10 this week, Shibata made it impossible to make a strong debate at #1 for anyone else. Why? Well he beat TWO perennial #1’s in one weekend! On 11/10 he became the NEW RevPro British Heavyweight Champion when he defeated Zack Sabre Jr. at RevPro to win the title and then followed that up with another huge win vs. Chris Hero on 11/11 to retain the title for a 2-0 week. While you don’t often see him in the poll or in the rankings due to where he works most frequently, he’s stayed relevant on the indies over the weekend with a title win along with victories over two of the top talents in all of professional wrestling. This was his very first #1!

#2 Ethan Page (@OfficialEGO)-It was a VERY close call as to who was #2 and #3 this week, but in the end “All Ego” Ethan Page won out due to the strength of his victories combined with the prestige of the promotion where the wins took place. At EVOLVE on 11/12 he started his week off strong with a win vs. “the Technical Wizard” Zack Sabre Jr. and then followed that up with a victory at EVOLVE again as he defeated Chris Dickinson 11/13 for a 2-0 weekend record. His week was comparable to several others’ weeks, but it was “All Ego” that ultimately trumped them all for a #2 ranking. What’s the one thing that he hasn’t accomplished in the IPR yet? A #1 ranking. Perhaps that’s the next step for “All Ego.”

#3 Will Ospreay (@WillOspreay)-The former #1 and current RevPro British Cruiserweight Champion defended and retained that title on 11/10 with a win vs. Bushi and then followed that up with a HUGE non-title victory vs. Japanese Legend Jushin ‘Thunder Liger on 11/11 to go 2-0 for the week. VERY impressive week for Ospreay who is really looking to pad his IPR 100 stats as he has spent so much of the year working for New Japan which kept him ineligible for the Indy Power Rankings in regard to any victories he picked up there. Ospreay continues to prove that he’s truly one of the greatest high-flyers on the planet right now.

#4 Kongo Kong (@RealKongoKong)-“The Monsta” moves up from #6 to #4 this week after a clean sweep of the Midwest with a 4-0 record. The APWA Quadruple Crown Heavyweight, JCW Heavyweight, SSW Heavyweight, and XICW Proving Ground Champion beat JJ Garrett at IWA Mid-South on 11/10, then beat Aaron Williams at PWF on 11/11, then beat Mance Warner by DQ at IWA Mid-South on 11/12, and then teamed with Dre Jacobs at XICW on 11/13 to defeat The Monroes. There’s no doubt that Kong has been AMAZING in 2016. He was #3 in the IPR 100 in 2014 and #4 in 2015…where will Kong end up in 2016? Be sure to tune in LIVE as the IPR 100 Reveal Kicks off on 12/27 here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork/2016/12/28/indy-power-rankings-2016-ipr-100-reveal-night-one

#5 El Ligero (@Ligero1)-This former #1 gets back into the Top 10 after a very impressive 3-0 weekend in the UK. The 13-year veteran and current SWE Heavyweight and What Culture Pro Wrestling Internet Champion beat Marty Scurll at What Culture on 11/9 to retain the title, then teamed with Martin Kirby & Whitey at HOPE on 11/11 to defeat Craig Anderson & Hard Knocks Inc. (Blake & Burchill) and then defeated Rampage Brown at Pro Evolution Wrestling on 11/12 to go 3-0 for the week. He actually beat two former #1’s in singles action over the weekend and that’s likely what pushed him into the Top 5 despite heavy competition from a very good and talented #6’s through #10 this week.

#6 Tyson Dux

#7 Prince O’Shea-#3 in the online voting competition with 47 votes

#8 Kellie Skater

#9 Yuji Nagata

#10 Tessa Blanchard

People’s Champ. AC Riley (@WrongAlexRiley)-AC Riley wins yet another People’s Champ award this week after collecting an INSANE 277 votes to edge out Theodore Powers for the win in the online voting competition. He got on the poll when he defeated Logan Lynch and Colin Brooks in a Triple Threat at CPWE on 11/12 and then won a Battle Royal the same day. His year has been tremendous as it’s been filled with rankings and multiple wins in the online voting competition. Will he make this year’s IPR 100? Stay tuned to find out…

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 7th, 2016

#1 Crazy Pain (Gringo Loco & Steve Pain)-The online voting competition helped to make this week’s #1 ranking a little too close for comfort for Crazy Pain! It seemed obvious at the outset of voting that they would be the clear cut #1, but the Twisted Sisterz turned up the heat by winning the online voting competition. Crazy Pain JUST edged them out for the top spot this week. The NEW AIW Tag Team Champions won the Tag Team titles by winning the Double Dare Tag Team Tournament over the weekend where they defeated Ninja Elite Squad (Facade & Flip Kendrick) at AIW on 11/4 in the first round, then defeated Bro Sauce (Matt Riddle & Tracy Williams) in the quarterfinals on 11/5, then defeated Team IOU (Nick Iggy & Kerry Awful) in the semifinals, and then defeated The Jollyville Fuck-its (Russ Myers & T-Money) to win the tournament and the titles. A 4-0 record gets them both their first ranking and their first #1 ranking all in one week. It was a week that was well….CRAZY!

#2 People’s Champs. Twisted Sisterz (Thunder Rosa & Holidead)-The now two-time People’s Champs get their highest ranking yet in part because of the large amount of fan support they received in the online voting competition. The NWA Western States Tag Team Champions had a hell of a week in Japan where they beat Mayu Iwatani and Jungle Kyouna at Stardom on 11/3 and then defeated Santana Garrett & Chelsea Green on 11/6 to go 2-0 for the week. 51 votes in the online voting competition and this exciting tag team gets a #2 ranking AND another People’s Champs award. Congrats to them! You can like their Facebook page here: https://www.facebook.com/Twisted-Sisterz-976600145795022/

Follow Thunder Rosa on Twitter @thunderrosa22 and Holidead @holidead

Follow Thunder Rosa on Instagram @thunderrosa22 and Holidead @moi_who

#3 Manstache Main Event (Juan Jeremi & Waylon Maze)-The SOLID year for this upstart tag team continues this week as they earned their way into a #3 ranking against some pretty decent competition. The RWC and GOUGE Tag Team Champions defeated Johnny Flawless and Sideffect at RWC to retain the titles on 11/5 and then beat Team Sexy the same day at GOUGE to retain the GOUGE titles to go 2-0 for the week. Pretty incredible considering they defended two separate sets of titles in the same day. They also came in 5th in this week’s online voting competition and don’t look now, but they could make an impact in the Tag Team Top 50. Be sure to tune in on 12/28 to find out if they make the cut. You’ll be able to listen LIVE here: http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/tscmd/tc/142608

#4 Polo Promotions (Jackie Polo & Mark Coffey)-The SWA and ICW Tag Team Champions also had a great week as they defeated Joe Hendry and Kenny Williams at ICW on 11/3 and then beat The London Riots on 11/5 to go 2-0 for the week. This tag team has been quietly having a solid year so you may be seeing (or hearing) them in the Tag Team Top 50 this year as well. For safety’s sake they may want to pick up a few more decent wins before the end of the year to try to ensure their spot in the Tag Team Top 50 for 2016. Time will tell if they can beat out a lot of worthy tag teams to make the list of this year’s Top 50.

#5 The Jollyville Fuck-Its (Russ Myers & T-Money)-The former AIW Tag Team Champions are a team that we really haven’t seen in the Tag Team Top 5 since around 2014. They’re back with a fantastic showing in the Double Dare Tag Team Tournament after they beat Weird World (Alex Kellar & Evan Adams) at Absolute Intense Wrestling in the first round on 11/4, then defeated Massage NV (Dorian Graves & VSK) in the quarterfinals on 11/5, then defeated The Headhunters (Headhunter A & Headhunter B) in the semifinals, and then lost to Crazy Pain (Gringo Loco & Steve Pain) in the final to go 3-1 for the week. If they can turn this momentum into some more victories perhaps we’ll start seeing them in the Tag Team Top 5 more frequently once again.

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of November 7th, 2016

#1 Chris Hero (@TheChrisHero)-It was another CLEAN SWEEP of the official voters for Chris Hero after winning the 2016 IWA Mid-South Teddy Petty Invitational. Not only that, he picked up wins in both AAW and Beyond Wrestling to run his record to an insane 5-0 for the week. “The Knockout Artist” teamed with Matt Hardy at AAW on 11/4 to defeat Trevor Lee & Andrew Everett, then at IWA Mid-South on 11/5 he defeated Jonathan Wolf in the first round, then defeated Corey Storm, Trik Davis, & Rickey Shane Page in a four-way semifinal, then defeated John Wayne Murdoch in the final to win the Ted Petty International 2016, and then defeated Brian Milionas at Beyond on 11/6. Hero has been doing this for a LONG time and he’s quite possibly the best in the world right now. Make sure to tune into the IPR 100 Reveal on 12/27 and 12/28 to find out where he ends up this year in the Top 100!

#2 Kimber Lee (@Kimber_Lee90)-On almost any other week, Kimber Lee would have easily have gotten the #1 ranking. She was edged out this week simply because of Chris Hero’s phenomenal week, but make no mistake, Kimber Lee had a hell of a week as well. The across the board #2 this week earned her spot by defeating Jessicka Havok and Heidi Lovelace in a Triple Threat at AAW on 11/4, she then defeated Max Smashmaster at Chikara on 11/5, then defeated Sonya Strong at Beyond’s Tournament For Today in the first round on 11/6, then defeated Taeler Hendrix in the semifinals, and then defeated Veda Scott in the final to win the Tournament For Today Women’s Tournament to go 5-0 for the week. Make no mistake, Kimber Lee was amazing this weekend and it’s a damn shame she didn’t collect another #1 ranking.

#3 Matt Riddle (@riddletuf7)-Like Hero and Kimber Lee at #1 and 2, Matt Riddle swept the #3 spot of the official voters’ ballots. His lone loss may be the only thing that kept him away from a #2 or even a #1 ranking this week. ½ of the KPW Tag Team Champions teamed with Tracy Williams at Absolute Intense Wrestling on 11/5 to defeat EYFBO (Angel Ortiz & Mike Draztik) in the first round of the Double Dare Tag Team Tournament, then lost to Crazy Pain (Gringo Loco & Steve Pain) in the second round on 11/5, then defeated Chris Dickinson in the first round of the Tournament for Today Men’s Tournament at Beyond on 11/6, then defeated Jonathan Gresham in the semifinals, and then defeated Donovan Dijak in the final to win the tournament to go 4-1 for the week. Riddle is just another big name that you’ll likely see in the IPR 100 on 12/27 and/or 12/28!

#4 Brody King (@Brodyxking)-It’s a first-ever ranking for Brody King as he won the APW/Gold Rush Pro Wrestling Young Lions Cup 2016 over the weekend. On 11/5 he teamed with Bison Braddock to defeat Amish Johnson & Atticus Lynch in the first round, then defeated Bison Braddock in the semifinals, and then defeated Ju Dizz, Styker and The Super Beast in a four-way final to win the tournament to run his record to 3-0 on the week. He was actually two votes shy of sweeping the #4 spot this week as well. Brody King was living proof as to how big of a role tournaments played in this week’s Top 10.

#5 John Wayne Murdoch (@johnmurdoch25)-Despite coming just short of winning this year’s TPI, JWM came away with a VERY impressive week at IWA Mid-South. On 11/2 he teamed with his Rejects partner, Reed Bentley to beat Mance Warner & Ray Waddell, then defeated Andrew Hunter on 11/3, then defeated Zodiak on 11/5 in the first round of the Ted Petty Invitational, then defeated Cole Radrick, Shane Mercer, & Jake Crist in a four-way semifinal, and then lost the final to Chris Hero to go 4-1 for the week. Murdoch was just one second away on multiple occasions from being the first wrestler to win the IWA Mid-South King of the Death Matches and TPI in the same year, but what he DID do was show that he could hang with some of the top talent in the world in a straight wrestling match.

#6 Kongo Kong-#4 in the online voting competition with 24 votes

#7 Tyson Dean

#8 Veda Scott

#9 People’s Champ. Dante HP-This Top 10 is being released on Election Tuesday. Why do we vote? THIS is why! Dante HP earned himself a People’s Champ award, but because of the amount of votes he received and the parity of the official voters from the spots of 5-10, Dante HP found a way to sneak into the Top 10 this week. After collecting 88 votes to win the online voting competition, he just edged out Wolfgang, The Trickster, Donovan Dijak, and Matt Cross for the #9 spot. Interestingly, all of the four competitors behind him were all tied at #10 and needed multiple tie breakers to break the tie. Congrats to Dante HP who beat Shawn Hoodrich and Chris Michaels at Wilder Mountain Wrestling on 11/6 in a Triple Threat to get on the ballot and the fans took it home for him.

#10 Wolfgang

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of October 31st, 2016

#1 Isami Kodaka & Takumi Tsukamoto-This tag team gets their first #1 ranking together after winning this year’s Iron Fist Tag Team Tournament over the weekend. On 10/29 they defeated Ryuichi Sekine & Ryota Nakatsu in the semi-finals and then beat FUMA and Yusuke Kobo the same day to win the tournament. A 2-0 week on a week like this where competition was admittedly a little week gets them the #1. The question for this team now is whether or not this ranking is going to be enough to push them into the Tag Team Top 50 this year. With so many new teams entering the fray, it will be interesting to see if this team can stand apart from the pack as it’s already looking like there’s a lot of quality teams that will miss out on this year’s Tag Team Top 50. Be sure to check out the Tag Team Top 50 Reveal on 12/28 here: http://www.talkshoe.com/talkshoe/web/talkCast.jsp?masterId=142608&cmd=tc

#2 Hardcore Impact (Hardcore Craig & Pauly Thomaselli)-Much like the #1 team this week, the #2 got their spot by winning a tag team tournament. They beat Sierra & Melanie Cruise at Brew City Wrestling in the semi-finals of the Jim Boyd Tag Memorial Tournament on and then beat Max Holiday & Blake Belakis in the finals to win the tournament. A 2-0 week gets them into the Tag Team Top 5 again. It’s likely you’ll see their name on the list of teams in this year’s Tag Team Top 50. How high will they be? Well, again you’ll have to tune in on 12/28 to find out for yourself how their year stacked up against some of the other top teams on the indies.

#3 Dragneel & Wildman Firpo-We get a new team to the Tag Team Top 5 as this tag team dominated CWE in Canada last week with THREE victories on a week where many teams struggled to even pick up two wins. They defeated Travis Cole & Rob Mass at Canadian Wrestling’s Elite on 10/29, then defeated Bobby Collins & Mike Mission the same day, and then Travis Cole & Mike Mission on 10/30 to go 3-0 for the week. Impressive week for this first-time team to the Top 5, but again, they’ll need to pick up some more wins and turn them into rankings if they want to find themselves in the truly elite of 2016. Time is running out as we have less than 2 months to go before the big reveal!

#4 VerserK (Shingo Takagi & T-Hawk)-Dragon Gate gets another team into the Tag Team Top 5 as this duo was VERY busy last week with FIVE tag team matches. They came away with a very impressive 4-1 record as they teamed with Mondai Ryu at Dragon Gate on 10/24 to defeat Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora & Ryo Jimmy Saito) & Masato Yoshino, then teamed with Cyber Kong on 10/25 to defeat Tribe Vanguard (BxB Hulk, Kzy & YAMATO) then teamed with El Lindaman on 10/28 to defeat Masaaki Mochizuki, Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito, then teamed with Cyber Kong on 10/29 to lose to Akira Tozawa, Naruki Doi and BxB Hulk, and then teamed with El-Lindaman on 10/30 to defeat Gamma, Takehiro Yamamura and Peter Kaasa . VerserK will definitely being making an appearance in the Tag Team Top 50..but which combination?

#5 Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TeamIOU)-The Carnies are back AGAIN in the Tag Team Top 5 as the former Boy and his Dog don’t seem to be going anywhere. They have achieved so much success in 2016 and they look to continue that momentum heading into this year’s Tag Team Top 50. After being ranked #2 last week, they fought Iceberg & Murder-1 to a no contest on 10/29, then defeated The REVOLT (Darius Lockhart & Zane Riley) at Atlanta Wrestling Entertainment on 10/30, and then teamed with Anthony Henry & Ethan Case the same day to defeat Adrian Armour, Chip Day, Iceberg & Murder-1 to go 2-0-1 for the week. Will they beat their previous 2 rankings in the Tag Team Top 50 of #4? Time will tell.

People’s Champs. Foley Bros (Ryan & Mo Foley)-The NEW Insane Championship Wrestling (in Milwaukee) Tag Team Champions make their first appearance at or near the Tag Team Top 5 after they were the last two men standing in a Survivor Series-style match on 10/30 to win the titles. They collected 66 votes from their fans and supporters to make the Indy Power Rankings an all Wisconsin week as AC Riley won the People’s Champ award in the singles and of course they won the Tag Team Top 5 People’s Champs award. Congrats to the Foley Bros on their first win in the online voting competiton!
