Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 28th, 2016

#1 Over Generation (Dragon Kid & Eita)-Dragon Gate strikes again with yet another #1 ranking for their promotion as this duo from Over Generation takes the top spot in the tag team rankings this week. Despite no votes in the online voting competition from the fans, this duo swept the official voters at #1 after a very impressive 4-0 week in Japan. They teamed with Gamma at Dragon Gate on 11/21 to defeat VerserK (El Lindaman, Shingo Takagi & T-Hawk) then defeated Big R Shimizu & Masaaki Mochizuki on 11/22, then teamed with Gamma on 11/23 to defeat Don Fujii, Kzy and Kotoka, and then teamed with Gamma on 11/26 to defeat Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!, Jimmy Susumu and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito) to wrap up their perfect week. Look for them to start attempting to make a late push to get into this year’s Tag Team Top 50. #2 Alpha Class (Danny Adams & Paco Gonzalez)-The PGP Tag Team Champions FINALLY break through into the Tag Team Top 5 after perhaps the biggest victory of their careers when they defeated the back-to-back #1’s in the Tag Team Top 50 in the Hooligans to retain the titles on 11/23. This was one of those situations where Alpha Class didn’t have the QUANTITY of wins to fall back on, but the official voters looked at the QUALITY of their victory and it really was pretty unmatched this week. This is a team that is definitely on the rise in the indies in and around the Midwest and you may be seeing more and more of them in the rankings as we head into 2017.

#3 Andrew Everett & Trevor Lee-This on again, off again duo finds their way back into the Tag Team Top 5 this week as the NEW AAW Tag Team Champions knocked off Davey Vega & Mat Fitchett to win the titles on 11/26. The prestige of the titles they won combined with their status as two of the top talents on the indies helped them to get into this week’s rankings despite only having one (HUGE) victory compared to several other teams who scored several wins over the weekend. This is a team who split their time between singles and tags and yet always seem to stay relevant in both sets of rankings. With the AAW Tag Team Titles now around their waists, look out for them to make several runs at the rankings prior to the end of the year.

#4 Oedo-tai (Hana Kimura, Kagetsu & Kyoko Kimura)-We get a three person team in the rankings this week as the Artist of Stardom Tag Team Champions were undefeated over the weekend as they defeated Yoko Bito, Kairi Hojo and Jungle Kyouna on 11/23 to retain the titles and then defeated Kairi Hojo, Hiromi Mimura & Saori Anou on 11/27 to go 2-0 for the week. This is a first-time ranking for the team and as such, time will tell if they can build on this ranking with further rankings as the weeks and months roll on.

#5 People’s Champs. Foley Bros (Ryan & Mo Foley)-This is the second People’s Champs award for the Foley Bros and the very first ranking for them as the Insane Championship Wrestling (in Milwaukee) Tag Team Champions defeated the Undesirables on 11/27 to retain the titles. Their fans pushed them into the official Top 5 this week as they collected 57 votes and EASILY won a rather slow online voting competition this week for a second time. With a second People’s Champs award, this tag team is really starting to make a push to get their names out there as they continue to pick up wins at ICW in Milwaukee.
