Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of October 10th, 2016

#1 Speed of Sounds (Hercules Senga & Tsutomo Oosugi)-Big Japan produces another team at the top as their break-neck scheduled equated to a LOT of wins for this tandem. They teamed with Jaki Numazawa at BJW on 10/3 to defeat Brahman Kei, Brahman Shu & Takayuki Ueki, then defeated Brahman Kei & Brahman Shu on 10/4, then teamed with Kankuro Hoshino on 10/5 to defeat Brahman Kei, Brahman Shu & Takayuki Ueki, then teamed with Toshiyuki Sakuda on 10/6 to defeat “Kokutenshi” Jaki Numazawa, Brahman Shu and Brahman Kei, and then teamed with Toshiyuki Sakuda on 10/7 to defeat Brahman Shu, Brahman Kei and Jaki Numazawa to go 5-0 for the week. It was an absolutely incredible week for a tag team who has been bouncing in and around the Top 5, but finally get their first #1 ranking this week.

#2 DAMNATION (Daisuke Sasaki & Tetsuya Endo)-In the #2 spot this week we get another team who has been bouncing in and around the Top 5 this year in DAMNATION. This tag team defeated HARASHIMA and Yuko Miyamoto at DDT on 10/8 (non-title) and then defeated them again on 10/9 to win the titles to go 2-0 for the week. While this week wasn’t the strongest in terms of teams winning titles, tournaments, etc… but it was still a very good week for DAMNATION who just didn’t quite have the sheer number of wins that Speed of Sounds did. So Japan, in all its tag team glory, churns out the top 3 rankings in the Tag Team Top 5 this week.

#3 VerserK (Shingo Takagi & T-Hawk)-It’s Dragon Gate again this week in the Tag Team Top 5 as VerserK brings us another great pairing. While Shingo and Naruki Doi are the most dominant team from the stable, it’s hard to say that this team didn’t deserve a ranking after their performance this past week. This duo defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora & Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!!) at Dragon Gate on 10/3, then teamed with Naruki Doi on 10/4 to defeat Masato Yoshino, Big R Shimizu and Futa Nakamura, and then teamed with Naruki Doi & Cyber Kong on 10/9 to defeat Akira Tozawa, Masaaki Mochizuki, Dragon Kid and Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria to go 3-0 for the week. As per the norm, Dragon Gate just continues to make a statement in the Tag Team Top 5.

#4 People’s Champs. The Brotherhood (Brother Reed & Mickey Muscles @BrotherhoodPro_)-This team is very similar to Team IOU in 2014. They’re young, they’re hungry, and they’re continuously knocking off some of the very best tag teams in the Midwest. This past week they stole the show at IWA Mid-South as they defeated Bomb Shelter (Joseph Schwartz & Zodiak), NVD (Hy-Zaya & Shane Mercer) and Corey Storm & Sage Phillips in an action-packed Four-Way Tag Team Match. That got them on the poll. Their fans handled the rest as they collected 82 votes to win this week’s People’s Champs award. If their hot streak continues, you can bet you’ll see them in this year’s Tag Team Top 50. Give a like to their Facebook page here:

#5 Ryuichi Kawakami & Yasufumi Nakanoue-Out of 5 teams in the Tag Team Top 5, four of them come to us from Japan. Much like the #1 team, this team is from Big Japan as they had a very good week there with a 3-0 record. They defeated Kazumi Kikuta & Toshiyuki Sakuda at BJW on 10/3, then teamed with Kazuki Hashimoto on 10/4 to defeat Hideyoshi Kamitani, Daichi Hashimoto & Takuya Nomura, and then defeated Daichi Hashimoto and Tatsuhiko Yoshino to go 3-0 for the week. This is their first ranking and while none of the wins were particularly “big” in terms of a title win or tournament victory, it’s still good to pick up three wins against tough competition at Big Japan.
