Indy Power Rankings for the Week of October 10th, 2016

#1 Chris Hero (@TheChrisHero)-There was no question or debate as to who was #1 this week as Chris Hero left little doubt in the official voters’ minds with an insanely impressive 5-0 week in the Midwest. He started off his week with a major victory over Kongo Kong and Shigehiro Irie in the main event of IWA Mid-South’s 20th Anniversary Show on 10/6. He followed that up with a win vs. Kongo Kong in Round 1 of AAW’s Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament on 10/7. He then continued his roll as he beat Mat Fitchett in Round 2 on 10/8, then Mustafa Ali in Round 3 the same day, and finally Zack Sabre Jr in the finals to win the tournament with a 5-0 record for the week. We’ve said in the past that Hero is really just lacking an important title belt to help push him up the rankings, but this week his #1 spot was simply undeniable. He also collected 15 votes to come in 5th in the online voting competition.
#2 Marty Scurll (@MartyScurll)-A familiar name returns to a top spot in the rankings since his #1 ranking back in the week of September 5th. This year’s Battle of Los Angeles winner added another tournament trophy to his mantle as he won MCW’s Melbourne Invitational, proving that no matter the country or continent, Scurll’s villainous ways earn him the W. He beat Slex in the First Round on 10/7, then beat Mark Davis in Round 2 on 10/8, and then beat Adam Brooks to win the tournament. Scurll gets his 4th #1 ranking of the year after once again showing his dominance all over the world.
#3 Sammy Smooth (@sammysmoooth)-This British talent gets his first ranking in 2016 after a couple of mentions in 2015 didn’t quite net him in place in the Top 10. It was impossible to ignore the IPW UK All-England Champion this week as he entered the UK Super 8 Tournament, then defeated Chris Brookes in the first round at IPW:UK on 10/8, then defeated Nick “Magnus” Aldis in the semifinals on 10/9, and then defeated James Davis in the final the same day to win the tourney to go 3-0 for the week. This 6’1 product of the IPW:UK Wrestling & Fitness Academy finally broke through this week as he proved that his flash is backed up by how good he can be inside the squared circle in a big match environment.
#4 Zack Sabre Jr. (@zacksabrejr)-The sensational year for “The Technical Wizard” continues as he gets yet another ranking this week after just falling short in the AAW Jim Lynam Memorial Tournament. The PWG World and RevPro British Heavyweight Champion defeated Colt Cabana in the first round on 10/7, then beat Jeff Cobb in the next round, and then ACH in the semi-finals, before ultimately falling to our #1 this week in Chris Hero in the finals. A 3-1 week with wins over some very well-known talent helped ZSJ get an astounding ELEVENTH ranking this year. Despite all his work in the CWC and otherwise, he’s had a fantastic year and there’s still time left to build upon his resumé!
#5 Shanna (@Shannanjii)-“Portugal’s Perfect Athlete” gets his first ranking after defeating Blue Nikita at GWF on 10/7 in a #1 contenders match. She followed that up with a win over Sweet Saraya Knight on 10/8 to win the GSW Ladies Title title for a 2-0 week there. It was a big weekend for Shanna as the 10 year veteran won her (according to 4th major title in her career. Look out for her if she can turn this momentum into more victories as the year continues as she is both beautiful and devastating in that ring.
#6 Shigehiro Irie
#7 Frankie Pickard-#4 in the online voting competition with 17 votes
#8 Mickie James
#9 Rambo
#10 People’s Champ. Matt Gilbert-What a week for Matt Gilbert as he won the MSWA Super Junior Cup by defeating Dante HP, James Anthony, and Caleb Courageous in the First Round and then beating Joe A’gau in the Finals the same day to win the tournament with a 2-0 record. He turned that tournament victory into a win in the online voting competition as he collected 86 votes to become People’s Champ for the very first time. Because of the fan support he received, he edged our Jeremiah for the #10 spot this week and his first official ranking as well. Congrats to Matt Gilbert on a huge week!
