Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of September 12th, 2016

#1 Over Generation (Eita & Dragon Kid)-Dragon Gate does it again! This tandem competed in the hotly contested Dragon Gate Summer Adventure Tag League and came out on top. This past week they defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora & Jimmy Susumu) at Dragon Gate on 9/10 in the semifinals and then defeated VerserK (Naruki Doi & YASSHI) the same day in the final to win the tournament. This duo has been absolutely blazing a trail through Dragon Gate as of late as they continue to push for one of the higher spots in the year-end Tag Team Top 50 for 2016. Their 2-0 week didn’t have the quantity of wins that The Speed of Sounds had, but the official voters rewarded them for quality along with the prestige of the tournament victory.

#2 Speed of Sounds (Tsutomu Oosugi & Hercules Senga)-Big Japan has been the home of some great tag team wrestling this year as the Speed of Sounds continue to make an impact. This week they get a #2 ranking after a sensational 4-0 weekend in Japan. They defeated Tatsuhiko Yoshino and Atsushi Maruyama at BJW on 9/7, then teamed with Toshiyuki Sakuda on 9/9 to defeat Shu Brahman, Kei Brahman & Takayuki Ueki, then defeated Brahman Shu and Brahman Kei on 9/10, and then defeated Sakigake and Rey Paloma on 9/11 to finish off the week with an undefeated record. Look for them to continue their strong push as 2016 hits its last quarter.

#3 John Morrison & Matt Cross-For the first time, we get a teaming of a couple of Lucha Underground stars teaming up on the indies to capture some gold and a spot in the Tag Team Top 5. This pair of elite talent tagged up to become the NEW Mondo Lucha Tag Team Champions after they defeated Zero Gravity on 9/9 to win the titles. That was the only action they saw as a team this weekend (to our knowledge) but that was more than enough to impressive the official voters as you have two great talents, beating a solid team, and winning titles. Not much more you can ask from Morrison & Cross. They’ll need to pick up some more impressive wins this year if they want to crack the Tag Team Top 50, but with their busy schedule, that may be hard to come by.

#4 Monsta Mack & Homicide-It’s a missed opportunity and a new opportunity all rolled into one for Monsta Mack. Unfortunately, Da Maff was unable to help Mack defend the CZW World Tag Team Titles over the weekend, which means that Da Hit Squad weren’t able to try to move up in the Tag Team Top 50 with a victory, BUT, the good news is that he and Homicide scored a win and he’s still ½ of the CZW World Tag Team Champions. Their victory over #TVReady (BLK Jeez & Pepper Parks) on 9/10 was a good one, but as usual, it was the prestige of the CZW titles that helped make the push for the Tag Team Top 5. It should also be noted that the fans were impressed as well as they picked up fourth place in the online voting competition.

#5 People’s Champs. Days of Rage (Zane & Riot)-On a week where there were no truly dominant teams over the weekend, “Days of Rage” managed to win the online voting competition in order to slip into the Tag Team Top 5 for the very first time. It was great timing for the PWE Tag Team Champions as they defeated The Chosen Ones on 9/10 to retain the titles and then collected 85 to EASILY win the online voting competition.
