Indy Power Rankings for the Week of September 12th, 2016

#1 Jonathan Gresham (@TheJonGresham)-Make it two #1’s this year for Jonathan Gresham as the 2016 CZW Best of the Best is now the CZW World Champion! On 9/10 he shocked the world as he won the CZW World Title in what many would consider an upset as he won a Four Way Boards of Nails, Carpet Stripes, and Pains of Glass Death Match for the title vs. Matt Tremont, Greg Excellent, and Joe Gacy. This type of match definitely isn’t what he’s known for but “The Octopus” found a way to survive and by hook or by crook, he walked away as the new CZW World Champion and with his second #1 ranking this year.

#2 Cody Rhodes (CodyRhodes)-Another week on the indies and another great Indy Power Rankings spot for Cody Rhodes as he had a flawless weekend, dashing the hopes of some of his opponents. On 9/8 he defeated Chris Hero at VIP, then beat Brian Fury at Chaotic Wrestling on 9/9, and then teamed with Johnny Gargano at EVOLVE on 9/11 where they defeated Drew Galloway and Chris Hero to go 3-0 for the week. Gargano’s farewell to EVOLVE equaled yet another victory for Cody Rhodes as he just continues to prove that he can compete with all of the great talent all over the independent wrestling scene.

#3 Joey Janela (@JANELABABY)-CZW gets more respect as the NEW CZW Wired Champion earns a #3 ranking after a HUGE victory over Lio Rush to win the title combined with one of the craziest dives in independent wrestling history. Janela came back from his severe wrist injury and he’s back on top of the world as one of independent wrestling’s wildest, most insane daredevils. Janela climbed the proverbial and literal ladder to become a three-time Wired Champion after defeating Lio Rush in their 4th encounter. If he can stay healthy, he’ll continue to show the entire world just how good “The Bad Boy” really is.

#4 Alex Daniels (@AlexDanielsAGD)-A lot of stock and respect was given to Alex Daniels this week as the AIW Intense Champion defeated Michael Elgin on 9/9 to retain the title. Despite only having one victory this week (to our knowledge) he met all of the criteria that our official voters look for as he most definitely had the strength of competition on his side, not to mention the prestige and importance of the title he holds and company he was competing for. Daniels is on one hell of a run at AIW right now, so don’t be surprised if you see him pick up some more big wins in the upcoming months.

#5 Chip Day (@_chipday88)-September 9th was a big day for Chip Day as he won the tournament to crown the PWF Heavyweight Champion. He defeated Andrew Hunter in the first round, the n beat Jason Kincaid in the second, and then handed Shane Mercer his only loss of the weekend as he won the final of the Primus tournament to crown a champion. He did suffer one defeat as Jason Kincaid got his win back at Marquee Wrestling. A 3-1 week still earns Chip Day a new title and a #5 ranking on a VERY competitive week of wrestling.
