Indy Power Rankings for the Week of August 8th, 2016

#1 John Wayne Murdoch-The Duke has FINALLY become King! In a STACKED tournament, John Wayne Murdoch went into the King of the Death Matches as one of the few favorites and came out on top. His week started off with a win at IWA Mid-South when he defeated Dale Patricks on 8/4. He then beat Conor Claxton, Jeff King and Deadly Dale at IWAMS on 8/6 in a fans bring the weapons match in the first round, then defeated DJ Hyde in the semifinals in a world series of glass match, and then defeated Matt Tremont in the final in a house of horrors match to win the King of the Death Matches to go 4-0 for the week. This is his first #1 ranking of 2016 and he looks to continue that momentum this week at IWA Mid-South. He also swept the ballots of the official voters as they all voted him #1, which doesn’t happen very frequently. It should be noted that he also did well in the fan poll with 34 votes to come in 6th.

#2 Gunner Miller (@RealGunnerM11)-It was an OUTSTANDING week for Gunner Miller as he came in #2 in the official voting which was due in large part to the enormous amount of support that came from his fans in the online voting competition. He won the Scenic City Invitational over the weekend as he defeated Mikael Judas in Round 1 on 8/5, then beat Joey Lynch in Round 2, and then beat some big names as he knocked off Chris Hero, Anthony Henry, and Jimmy Rave in a Four-Way Final to win the tournament with a 3-0 record. He recorded 233 fan votes to come in second in the online voting competition as he just missed out on the People’s Champ award this week.

#3 Kay Lee Ray (@Kay_Lee_Ray)-It was a very successful week in the UK as Kay Lee Ray became the NEW Queen of Southside Champion. She started the week strong as she defeated Jade at Kamikaze Pro on 8/5, then defeated Jessicka Havok at SWE on 8/7, and then defeated Jade and Alex Windsor the same day to win the title to go 3-0 for the week. It’s been a while since we saw her name pop in the Top 10, but we hope this trend continues. She had such a good week that most official voters either had her or Gunner Miller at #2 in the ballot. The only thing that really separated the two was the online fan vote, proving again how important the fan vote actually is.

#4 Sami Callihan (@TheSamiCallihan)-A perennial member of the Indy Power Rankings in 2016 gets back into the Top 10 yet again as the FCP, Rockstar Pro, and NEW PW2.0 Heavyweight Champion had a very good week in the UK. He defeated Matthew Palmer at Pro Wrestling 2.0 on 8/2 to win the vacant title and then defeated Pete Dunne and El Ligero in a triple threat at SWE in the UK on 8/7 to go 2-0 for the week. His 2 wins (one being a title win) combined with his great reputation and prestige really helped to catapult Sami over some of the other strong contenders this week.

#5 Noam Dar (@NoamDar)-The CWC participant did some solid work on the indies this past week as the PCW and PWE Heavyweight Champion defeated Sha Samuels at PCW on 8/6 to retain the title and then beat Rampage Brown the same day to retain again for a 2-0 record on the week. Noam Dar really hasn’t been seen in the Top 10 over the last couple of years as much as you would think he would be. Perhaps this is the beginning of a strong wave of momentum for this talented grappler.

#6 Archadia (@ArchadiaNJ)-It’s a first time ranking for Archadia as he won the UWA Elite Crossroads Tournament (held between 8/1 and 8/6. He defeated Drake Chambers & Lukas Finnegan in the semifinals on 8/6 and then defeated Kyle the Beast, Eric Corvis and Bowes in a four-way final the same day to win the tournament. We weren’t able to secure full result of the tournament, but Archadia had a very impressive week to get himself in the Top 10 on a very STACKED week of eligible competitors vying for the Top 10. He also came in 5th in the online voting competition with 35 votes.

#7 JJ Garrett (@JJGARRETT94) aka El Swago Loco-The former Indy Power Rankings #1 and current IWA Mid-South World Champion and UGW Independent Champion defeated Jonathan Wolf at IWA Mid-South on 8/4 to retain the title and then beat Space Monkey at UGW on 8/6 to retain the title to go 2-0 for the week. Garrett has been on fire recently and just continues to impress everyone no matter where he goes. Look out for him to grab a stranglehold on a high spot in this year’s IPR 100 if this success continues.

#8 Tessa Blanchard (@teamTblanchard)-The daughter of Tully Blanchard returns to the Top 10 this week as the EWA Florida Heavyweight and Remix Pro Fury Champion defeated Rachel Ellering at Mid-Atlantic Fan Fest on 8/6 and then defeated Thunder Kitty, Nevaeh and Solo Darling in a four-way at QOC the same day to go 2-0 for the week. Tessa just continues to work on her craft and improve as the weeks and months roll on. You may see her pop up on NXT from time to time and eventually that may become permanent, but for now we’ll enjoy her work here on the indies.

#9 Brandon Scherer-The winner of the Super Six Survival Tournament gets his first ranking this week after he defeated Leo O’Farrell in the first round at I Believe in Wrestling on 8/6 and then defeated Chico Adams, Jon Cruz, Jonny Vandal, Mike Reed and Tyranus in a six-way final to win the tournament with a 2-0 record for the week. This Florida talent made a name for himself by defeating several good talents that we’ve seen in various forms of the Indy Power Rankings in the past. Time will tell if we see him back in the Top 10 again!

#10 Santana Garrett (@SantanaGarrett_)-Last year’s IPR 100 #1 returns to the Top 10 yet again this year as the CWE Vixens, Battling Bombshells, BPW Heavyweight, 1/2 of WOW Tag Team Champions; and OPW, NPW, RIOT & Wrestling Superstar Women’s Champion teamed with Raquel & Violet Payne at PW2.0 on 8/2 to defeat Brandi Lauren, Dominique Fabiano & Su Yung, then defeated Ivory Robyn and Red Velvet in a triple threat at CWE to retain the vixens title, and then defeated Ivelisse at Wrestling Superstar in Chile on 8/7 to go 3-0 for the week. She likely would have been ranked higher but the third win vs. Ivelisse came into us late, but as it stands, on a week like this, #10 isn’t bad at all.

People’s Champ. Eric Darkstorm (@elewminatti)-Eric Darkstorm won his first People’s Champ award by getting on the ballot with a HUGE victory over Chase Owens at Action Packed Wrestling on 8/3. It was an endless fight in the online voting competition, but at 10 PM EST, Eric Darkstorm was ahead. He ended up collecting an INSANE 301 votes to secure this week’s People’s Champ award. Look out for him to start making waves on the indies as the year rolls on.
