Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of August 1st, 2016

#1 Crusade for Change (TJ Marconi & Anthony Gangone)-Overlooked and underappreciated…even by our voters…until now! The NEW NYWC Fusion Champions finally get their first #1 ranking after a HUGE week on the East Coast. They defeated The Big O on 7/28 in a handicap match at NYWC to win the Fusion title (although that has since been disputed) then defeated Sozio & Joe Gacy at Xcite on 7/30, and then teamed with Darius Carter, Devin Blaze and Tommy Trainwreck at Beyond on 7/31 to defeat The Strong Style Squad (B-Boy, Dan Maff, Eddie Kingston, Homicide & Monsta Mack) to go 3-0 for the week. The Crusade for Change have been making waves where ever they go recently and this weekend was just absolute proof of that fact. Congrats to the C4C on their first #1 ranking!

#2 Young Bucks (Matt & Nick Jackson)-We don’t often get to see perhaps the best tag team in the world in our rankings very much anymore due to their commitments to ROH, New Japan, and elsewhere, but when PWG runs a show and the Bucks are on it, there’s a great chance you’ll see them in the Tag Team Top 5. They took the PWG World Tag Team Titles and successfully defended them vs. Death By Elbow (Chris Hero & JT Dunn) on 7/29. That victory earned them multiple official votes towards a #1 ranking, but they were JUST edged out by the Crusade for Change this week. It’s always good to see this talented tag team in the Top 5 again!

#3 London Riots (James Davis & Rob Lynch)-The former #1’s found their way back into the Tag Team Top 5 this week after a very successful week in the UK. The PROGRESS and FPW Tag Team Champions fought The Smooth Ravers (Danny Blaze & Sammy Smooth) to a double DQ at XWA, then teamed with Thomas Dawkins the same night to defeat The Smooth Ravers (Danny Blaze & Sammy Smooth) & Lion Kid, and then defeated War Machine (Hanson & Ray Rowe) at Progress on 7/31 to retain the titles and go 2-0-1 for the week. Despite no fan votes in the online voting competition, the official voters came through for this dominant UK tag team.

#4 Soul Shooters (Dru Skillz & Appollo Starr)-It was a great weekend for this brutal tag team who has been on hiatus from the Top 5 for quite some time. They started off the week by defeating another brutal tag team in the Viking War Party (Alex Rudolph & Jake Parnell) at the joint SSW/RCW/PWK event on 7/30 and then teamed to defeat former stablemate Remi Wilkins & Anthony Toatele at SSW on 7/31 to go 2-0 for the week. It was a STATEMENT kind of week for this team, showing the independent wrestling world that they’re still here and they’re not going anywhere. They were also #4 in the online voting competition with 18 votes.

#5 Bomb Shelter (Joseph Schwartz & Zodiak)-This villainous tag team just continues to make waves all over the Midwest as they get ranked yet again this week after a big win at IWA Mid-South on 7/28 as they beat The Brotherhood and Teddy King & Ray Waddell in a Triple Threat Tag Team Match. They have been the model of consistency in 2016 as they may not have the titles that some of the other teams you’ve seen in the Top 5 have, but they are a legitimate threat to any team they face. Despite their evil nature, this tag team is increasing their popularity as they picked up a VERY impressive 216 votes to come in second in the online voting competition this week.

People’s Champs. Geordie Bulldogs (Mark Denny & Sean Denny)-This tag team came seemingly out of nowhere to win the AML Tag Team Titles vs. a very established team in The Heatseekers (Elliot Russell & Sigmon) at AML on 7/31. They then capitalized on that title win by really getting the word out to their fans as they were able to collect an astounding 332 votes to win their first-ever People’s Champs award. Keep an eye out for them as they continue to pick up momentum as the weeks roll on. Be sure to give them a like on Facebook at: https://www.facebook.com/GeordieBulldogs
