Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of June 13th, 2016

#1 HGH (Tony Nas & Roy Gordon)-This is one of those weeks where the Indy Power Rankings official voters and the fans have to agree to disagree. The fans didn’t give any votes to this tag team, but if you look at what they accomplished over the weekend, you’ll see why they had a clean sweep of the official voters this week. They competed in and won the William L. Lavin Memorial Tournament at UGW on 6/11 where they defeated UGW Tag Team Champions The Church (Jesus Bryce & Acid Jaz) (non-title) in the quarterfinals, then defeated Order 66 (Barry Ryte & Marcus Conrad) in the semifinals, and then defeated The Will to Win (Brendan Conway & Craig Mitchell) in the final to win the tournament. This ranking isn’t just their first #1 ranking, but their first ranking in general. If this is a sign of things to come for the Hot Girls Heroes, it could shape up to be one hell of a ride. Check them out on Facebook here: https://www.facebook.com/Superiority-Complex-1479170245731173/

#2 Catch Point (Drew Gulak & Tracy Williams)-It was quality over quantity for the EVOLVE Tag Team Champions this past week as they defeated former #1’s in the Tag Team Top 5 The Bravado Brothers (Harlem & Lancelot Bravado) on 6/10 to retain the titles. As usual, the EVOLVE Tag Team Titles carry a certain amount of weight with our official voters and a victory over a former #1 just helped to solidify their #2 ranking this week. Catch Point are already having a great year together and it looks like it’s only onward and upwards for “Hot Sauce” and Gulak as they continue to defend the titles with victories together in EVOLVE.

#3 Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TeamIOU)-It may not seem like it but this is a VERY important ranking for Team IOU with the 2016 Tag Team Top 50 Mid-Year Update just around the corner. With a true battle for the #1 spot in the Tag Team Top 50 up for grabs, Team IOU came away with a big ranking after a 2-0 week. They teamed with Chris Crunkk & Sylar Cross at AWE on 6/10 to defeat The Hierarchy (Jimmy Rave, Chip Day, Murder One & Adrian Armour) and then teamed with Sylar Cross at UIW on 6/11 to defeat The Hierarchy (Chip Day, Murder One, and Adrian Armour). The Carnies just continue to build momentum as they head towards some of their bigger bookings of their career. This tag team is still at or near the top of the indies and it appears that it will be very difficult for any other team to derail them. They were also #2 in the online voting competition with 73 votes.

#4 Chico Adams & Rex Bacchus-Rex Bacchus once again pops up in the Tag Team Top 5 write-up with another partner as he and Chico Adams combined to go 2-0 as a team over the weekend. They defeated CT Brown & Russell Payne at OPW on 6/10 and then defeated CJ Connors & Taylor Rodriguez at CWE on 6/12 to finish the weekend undefeated as a team. Both have been very impressive in Florida with various partners (and in singles) and it looks like their teaming could be something that could really produce some quality wins if they continue to go that route. Keep an eye on them to see what happens with them as the year rolls on.

#5 VerserK (Naruki Doi & Shingo Takagi)-As per the norm, the Tag Team Top 5 generally features a team from Dragon Gate. That team this week is VerserK as they went 3-1 with a very solid week in Japan. They defeated Monster Express (Big R Shimizu & Masato Yoshino) at Dragon Gate on 6/8, then defeated Over Generation (CIMA & Gamma) on 6/10, then teamed with Kotoka on 6/11 to lose to Tribe Vanguard (BxB Hulk, Kzy & Yosuke Santa Maria) and then bounced back as they defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora & Jimmy Susumu) on 6/12. VerserK are starting to make a push as the top Dragon Gate stable with multiple inclusions in the Tag Team Top 5 recently.

People’s Champs. Wild Hammers (Devin Baker & Zach “The Hammer” Ramos)-House of Bricks Wrestling produces both the People’s Champ in the Indy Power Rankings AND the Tag Team Top 5 People’s Champs as their promotions SWEEPS the voting this week. The Wild Hammers got on the poll by defeating The Rotten Examples at HoB on 6/10 and then collected 128 votes to win the online voting competition. Indy Power Rankings for the Week of June 13th, 2016

#1 Rickey Shane Page (@RickeyShanePage)-RSP battled through disgusting wounds, cuts, and everything else to become #1 this week for the very first time! For the third straight year, the CZW Tournament of Death Winner becomes #1 in the Indy Power Rankings after he defeated Tim Donst, then Conor Claxton, and finally Matt Tremont to win the tournament. In 2014 it was Jun Kasai, in 2015 it was Matt Tremont, and now in 2016 it’s Rickey Shane Page. Despite some injuries along the way, Rickey Shane Page has really improved over the last several years and it has now culminated with a victory at CZW’s Tournament of Death 15. He’ll get another shot at a #1 ranking on August 6, 2016 as he’ll be competing at IWA Mid-South’s King of the Deathmatches 2016. If he can pull a Tremont and win both, we may be looking at a 2-time #1. RSP even picked up 28 fan votes this week to come in 4th in the online voting competition.

#2 Josh Alexander (@Walking_Weapon)-For the second year straight, the IWC Super Indy Tournament winner comes in just behind the CZW Tournament of Death winner. Alexander had all the momentum after a #1 ranking two weeks ago and continued to cruise as he outlasted Dezmond Xavier, Darin Dinero, and Jonathan Gresham to win the tournament on 6/11 with a 3-0 record. The Walking Weapon has been exactly that as we head to the mid-point of 2016 and of course, our 2016 IPR 100 Mid-Year Update. Look out for Alexander to continue to make some noise in the second half of the year as he shows no signs of slowing down.

#3 Pete Dunne (@PeteDunneYxB)-Pete Dunne continues his magical year as he picks up yet another ranking in the Indy Power Rankings Top 10 this week. The RPW Cruiserweight Champion defeated Tyler Bate & Chris Brookes at RHP on 6/10 in a triple threat, then defeated Chris Tyler & Ashley Dunn at HOPE on 6/11, and then defeated Martin Stone at RPW on 6/12 to retain the title to go 3-0 for the week. This is his THIRD #3 ranking of 2016 and at this point the only thing he really hasn’t accomplished is a #1 ranking, but he is still making a STRONG push for the top spot in the 2016 IPR 100. Keep an eye on him as 2016 rolls on.

#4 YAMATO-What an insane week for YAMATO as he absolutely dominated Dragon Gate in Japan last week. He teamed with BxB Hulk at Dragon Gate on 6/6 to defeat Cyber Kong and Mondai Ryu, then defeated Jimmy Kanda on 6/8, then teamed with BxB Hulk and Yosuke (loves) Santa Maria on 6/10 to defeat Monster Express ( Masato Yoshino, Akira Tozawa and T-Hawk) then defeated Akira Tozawa in the semifinals on 6/11, and then defeated Big R Shimizu in the final on 6/12 to win the King of Gate 2016 tournament to go 5-0 for the week. In all honesty, he had a FANTASTIC argument for #1 this week, but for one reason or another, he sits at #4 due to the insane competition on this week’s ballot.

#5 Santana Garrett (@SantanaGarrett_)-Last year’s IPR 100 #1 continues to churn out the wins as she picks up three over the weekend. The Battling Bombshells, BPW Heavyweight, OPW Women’s, NPW Women’s, CWE Vixen’s, RIOT Women’s, Wrestling Superstar Women’s, USWA Women’s and 1/2 of WOW Tag Team Champions defeated Kennadi Brink at PW2.0 on 6/7, then teamed with Aria Blake at OPW on 6/10 to defeat Dominique Fabiano & Queen Raquel, and then defeated Chelsea Durden at CCW on 6/11 to sweep the week. Santana could be a force to be reckoned with once again as we enter the second half of the year.

#6 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-It’s two straight #6 rankings for Galloway! It was a 2-0 week at EVOLVE as he teamed with Ethan Carter III at EVOLVE on 6/10 to beat Johnny Gargano and TJP and then beat Ethan Page on 6/11. Please note that his loss in TNA has no bearing on our rankings. On the INDIES, Galloway has been nothing less than impressive lately as he’s been scoring big wins left and right. As we said last week, if he can pick up some gold in an independent promotion again, he might just get the momentum he needs to propel himself to yet another Top 10 finish in the IPR 100 this year.

#7 Timothy Thatcher-It’s been a little while since we’ve seen the EVOLVE Champion in the Top 10. This past week he kind of got lost in the shuffle of a lot of great wrestling going on. On 6/10 he defeated fellow Indy Power Rankings former #1 Chris Hero to retain the title and then beat Tracy Williams on 6/11 to retain. His wins alone were impressive, but what also helped his ranking this week was the prestige of the EVOLVE title and the fact that he defended the title both nights against top competition. If Thatcher can continue to win and defend that title, he’ll once again be very highly ranked in the IPR 100 this year.

#8 AR Fox-“The Whole Foxin’ Show” only needed one big win to get into the Top 10 this week. The AAW Heritage and DREAMWAVE Alternative Champion defeated Connor Braxton, Dave Crist, Dezmond Xavier, Kevin Lee Davidson, Stephen King, and Zachary Wentz in a Six-Way Scramble at Wrestling Revolver on 6/10. While it was just one win, the voters took extra notice of the fact that he defeated 5 other very good opponents. AR Fox just continues to impress in 2016 as he’s picking up big wins no matter which promotion he’s competing in week after week.

#9 Joseph Black (@blackcloudjb)-What a year it’s been so far for Joseph Black as he continues that trend with another ranking this week. The NWA Mid-Atlantic Junior Heavyweight, PWF Shinjiro Otani Open Weight, 1/2 of NWA Mid-Atlantic Tag Team Champions and NEW WVCW Junior Heavyweight Champion gets into the Top 10 this week after he defeated Jason Kincaid, Anthony Henry and Chase Owens in a 30 minute scramble at WVCW on 6/11 to win the title, which was yet another in a long list of titles he’s won or defended this year. The sky continues to be the limit for a guy who can put over an angle AND a promotion better than damn near anyone on the indies.

#10 JJ Garrett (@JJGARRETT94)-“The King of Swag” gets his first ranking this week as the Matt Cage trainee had one hell of a night at IWA Mid-South on 6/9. Despite having his brains beaten in by Kevin Lee Davidson, he SURVIVED 15 minutes of an “I Quit” only stipulation to enter the Opportunity in a Box Ladder Match the same night where he defeated Curt Stallion, Matt Cage, and Randi West. His only blemish was his loss to Sally Stiches at Freelance Wrestling on 6/10 in a Triple Threat Match. With a title match in his pocket at IWA Mid-South in the near future, this may not be the last time you see him in the Top 10.

People’s Champ. 2Buff (@OneAndOnly2Buff)-The House of Bricks Southern New England Champion gets his first mention in the Indy Power Rankings this week after winning the online voting competition with 86 votes (53 more than the second leader on the board). He defeated JB Tickle on 6/10 to retain the HoB Title which earned him his spot on the poll and his fans/supporters took care of the rest. He is your People’s Champ this week, so give him a like on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/1andonly2buff/ or give him a follow on Instagram at @OneAndOnly2Buff
