Indy Power Rankings for the Week of June 27th, 2016

#1 Michael Elgin (@MichaelElgin25)-“Big Mike” gets his first #1 ranking since 2014 (due to exclusive contracts, work in ROH, NJPW, etc…) after a HUGE week in Japan AND Mexico. The Japan portion of his week doesn’t count towards what we do as matches in New Japan aren’t eligible for our rankings, but his 4-1 week at LLE secured the top spot. Elgin showed why he’s Unbreakable as the IWGP Intercontinental Champion started slow with a loss in a Battle Royal at LLE on 6/23, but bounced back as he defeated Jinder Mahal in the first round, then on 6/25 he defeated Lio Rush in the quarterfinals, then defeated Bram in the semifinals, and then defeated Volador Jr in the final to win the Campeonato Mundial Elite 2016. The Canadian powerhouse tore it up this week and if he can continue this success on the indies, he’ll start to push his great 2013 as he was #1 in the IPR 100 that year.
#2 Nicole Savoy (@NikiMSavo)-“The Queen of Suplexes” and Heart of SHIMMER Champion had a week that was undoubtedly worthy of her second #1 ranking, despite just getting #2 this week. She defeated Crazy Mary Dobson at Shimmer on 6/24 to retain the title, then defeated Ryo Mizunami on 6/25 to retain again, then defeated Shayna Baszler the same night to retain again, then defeated Jessicka Havok on 6/26 to retain again, and then defeated Kay Lee Ray to retain again to go 5-0 for the week. It was an absolutely insane marathon week at SHIMMER for Savoy as she continues her winning ways as champion. Look out for her to start pushing her way up the IPR 100 ladder if this success continues.
#3 Teddy King-What an incredible week for Teddy King in the Midwest as he scored 4 victories, including a title win. His week started out great as he defeated Brandon Espinosa at IWA Mid-South on 6/23, then beat Vic the Bruiser on 6/24 and then won a Battle Royal to become the first ever NWA Bluegrass Champion the same night. He then beat Ray Waddell in a Street Fight at WWA on 6/25 to go 4-0 for the week. King has been mentioned many times in the Indy Power Rankings, but this is his highest ranking to date (it was previously #4). Congratulations to the former People’s Champ on yet another great ranking!
#4 Amazing Maria (@Amazing_Maria)-Amazing Maria gets her second ranking this year as she gets her first ranking since the week of February 8th, 2016 and her highest ranking to date. Maria has been on fire as of late and this past week was no different. She defeated Sassy Sally at NOW on 6/21, then defeated Randi West in a Last Woman Standing Match at IWA Mid-South on 6/22, then defeated Thunderkitty at SWF on 6/24, and then beat Rob Adams at SNPW on 6/25 to go 4-0 for the week. From Death Matches to straight up matches, to tags, she’s done it all lately. Keep an eye on her as the year rolls on.
#5 Rampage Brown (@RampageBrown)-The former #1 gets back into the Top 10 this week as ½ of the PCW Tag Team Champions won a 10-Man “Toon Tussle” at MEW UK on 6/24, then teamed with T-Bone at PCW on 6/25 to defeat The London Riots to retain the titles. He then beat Trent Seven at PROGRESS on 6/26 to go 3-0 for the week. One of the UK’s top talents continues to shine as he was unblemished this past week. Getting a ranking this past week at all, means A LOT as the competition was absolutely fierce on the indies.
#6 Andrew Hunter (@ahisnow138)-The former People’s Champ (last week) gets back into the Top 10 for the second time as he is now 7-0 over the last 2 weeks. He does drop one spot from his #5 ranking last week, but again, any ranking means a lot this week. The WCCW Champion defeated Ross Bray at RIPW on 6/24, then defeated Cody Matthews and Dwayne Davis in a three-way ladder match at WCCW on 6/25 to retain the title, and then defeated Jay Deeze at UWA on 6/26 to go 3-0 for the week. He had another strong showing in the online voting competition with 146 votes to come in third place this week.
#7 Volador Jr.-The NWA World Historic Welterweight, UIPW Heavyweight and 1/3rd of Mexican National Trios Champions jointly won a seeding battle royal at LLE on 6/23, then defeated PJ Black the same night, then teamed with Bandido at Caralucha on 6/24 to defeat Flamita & Fly Warrior, then defeated Tama Tonga at LLE in the quarterfinals on 6/25, then defeated Kushida in the semifinals, but then lost to Michael Elgin in the final to go 5-1 for the week. His record alone speaks for itself, but keep in mind his only loss was to this week’s #1. Had he won that match he’d be sitting at #1, but he IS ranked and that counts for a lot.
#8 Jessica James (@JJ_RAJETT)-It was one hell of a week for Jessica James as she gets her first ranking after a BIG tournament victory in Texas. The IHWE Queen Of The Ring Champion and Inspire Pro XX Division Champion competed at ACW on 6/26 as she defeated Allie Kat in the quarterfinals, then defeated Christi Jaynes in the semifinals, and then defeated Sage Sin in the final to win the 2016 American Joshi Queen of Queens Tournament to go 3-0 for the week. If she can keep this going, this won’t be her last time in the Top 10.
#9 Ron Mathis (@RonMathis13)-Mathis gets his first ranking in quite some time as he just continues to improve and win big matches where ever he goes. The Remix Pro and PDW Heavyweight, 1/2 of Rockstar Pro Tag Team Champions and NEW XMCW Champion teamed with Jake Crist at Rockstar Pro on 6/22 to defeat Ace Perry & Spidermonkey in a non-title match, then defeated The Masked Freak at XMCW on 6/23, and then won a Battle Royal the same night to win the vacant title to go 3-0 for the week. It’s been a while since we’ve seen him in the Top 10 but his inclusion is a welcome sight.
#10 Ian Payne-The NEW NAWA Lightweight Champion gets his first ranking as he defeated Jeff Victory in the first round, Mason Maddox in the semifinals, and Rob Killjoy in the finals to win the title to go 3-0 for the week. It was an interesting week of returns, firsts, and other big things in the Indy Power Rankings, rounded off with the Ian Payne #10 ranking. If he can continue to defend that title against top competition, you may be seeing him again in the Top 10.
People’s Champ. Cassidy Kieth (@DatCassidyKieth)-The online voting competition was an all-out war this week as you had Cassidy Kieth competing with Jon Davis (with USWA support) and Andrew Hunter for the People’s Champ award this week. In the end, Cassidy Kieth collected 262 votes after getting on the poll with a victory vs. Rick Vidal & Johnny Crisis in a Triple Threat at PWK on 6/25. He had previously won the online voting competition as ½ of Detroit vs. Everybody but this was his first time winning the competition in singles. Give him a follow on Twitter!
