Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of May 30th, 2016

#1 Death Match Junkies (Terry Houston & Colt 45)-This tag team came out of nowhere to win the Tag Team Death Match Tournament at Milestone Wrestling over the weekend. Both men had a fair amount of death match experience under their belts previous to this win, but it was this past weekend that really helped push them over the top. They defeated Lords of the Rings (Belton Creadmore & Mike Levy) in the first round, then defeated Hostile Apostles (Insane Lane & Trey Chaos) in the semifinals, and then defeated Weapons of Mass Destruction (Matt Tremont & Jeff Cannonball) in the finals to win the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. Their fans most definitely played a big part in pushing them up to #1 this week as well as they collected 65 votes to JUST miss out on the People’s Champs award this week. As it stands, they were #2 in the online voting competition and #1 in the official rankings. That’s one hell of a week.

#2 The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter @BeardedBullys)-Hooligans! It seems way too long since we mentioned The Cutter Brothers in the Tag Team Top 5, but here they are once again as the FIP World Tag Team Champions once again made everyone remember why they were #1 in the Tag Team Top 50 the last two years. They defeated The Bravado Brothers on 5/27 at FIP to retain the titles and then defeated Will Huckaby and Joe Black the next day in Georgia to run their weekend record to 2-0 with two very good victories for the brothers. Look out for these Outlaws as it appears they are really starting to heat up heading into the second half of 2016.

#3 Roscoe Eat Lisa (Mikey McFinnegan & Zakk Sawyers @RoscoeEatLisa)-Another week and another new set of Tag Team Titles for Roscoe Eat Lisa as the former #1’s (who were ranked #2 last week) continue their success, defeating Honkey Kong in a Ladder Match at SWF on 5/27 to win the SWF Tag Team Championships. That makes (by our count) three titles they now hold as a team as they are really becoming quite the title collectors on the indies right now. A good comparison between them and The Hooligans the last couple of years could absolutely be made as they continue to win titles, get their names out there, and wrestle new places all across North America. Bark bark gator tits!

#4 Da Hoodz (Davey Cash & Kris Pyro)-This is a team that has really flown under the radar over the last couple of years despite a lot of impressive performances. They really break through this week as they defeated The Influence (Jason Devine & Mike Montero) at Limitless on 5/28 and then defeated Anthony Stone & Dave Cole in a no DQ match at Beyond on 5/29 to go 2-0 for the week. Da Hoodz are one of the better (yet underrated) tag teams in the Northeast and if this momentum continues, we’ll be talking about them in the Tag Team Top 50 at the end of the year.

#5 Tribe Vanguard (BxB Hulk & YAMATO)-It just wouldn’t feel like the Tag Team Top 5 without some Dragon Gate representation. This is the first ranking for Tribe Vanguard as they teamed with Yosuke Loves Santa Maria at Dragon Gate on 5/25 to defeat Jimmyz (Jimmy Kagetora, Jimmy Susumu & Ryo Jimmy Saito) then teamed with Yosuke Loves Santa Maria on 5/26 to defeat Over Generation (CIMA, Dragon Kid & Punch Tominaga) then defeated Akira Tozawa & Masaaki Mochizuki on 5/28, and then teamed with Kzy on 5/29 to lose to Monster Express (Akira Tozawa, Masato Yoshino & T-Hawk) to go 3-1 for the week. Impressive week but the one blemish likely cost them an even higher ranking this week.

People’s Champs. Richard Delicious & Rex Bacchus-It’s joint representation for STE and The Dream Boats this week as Richard Delicious & Rex Bacchus won the online voting competition after a great weekend in Florida. They defeated The Lacey Twins at ACW on 5/26 and then teamed with The Dirty Blondes at FIP on 5/27 to defeat Braydon Knight, Matthew Palmer & T.E.C.H Squad to go 2-0 for the week. The People’s Champs this week edged out the Death Match Junkies in the online voting competition by just 12 votes, as they collected 77 total votes from their fans.
