#1 Trevor Lee (@TLee910)-So we get just our second person to become #1 twice this year (Zack Sabre Jr. is the other one) this week. Trevor Lee had an unexpectedly great week as the CWF Mid-Atlantic Heavyweight Champion (and TNA X Division Champion) teamed with Chet Sterling & Nick Richards at CWF Mid-Atlantic on 4/16 to defeat Lance Lude, Kamakazi Kid & Cam Carter, then defeated Lance Lude the same night to retain the CWF title, and then defeated former #1 Joey Janela on 4/17 at PWX to go 3-0 for the week. It was an impressive week to say the least, but certainly anything but an easy #1 as there were several viable contenders this week. With all that being said, Trevor Lee is now a top contender for a VERY high ranking in this year’s IPR 100.
#2 Big Damo (@BigBeardDamo)-We get more UK representation this week as Big Damo gets his third ranking this year and his SECOND #2 ranking of the year. It’s been a fantastic year for Big Damo as he currently holds the XWA British, ICW World and Pride Heavyweight Titles. His weekend was incredible as he defeated El Ligero at BCW on 4/15, then defeated Roderick Strong at RPW on 4/16, and then defeated Dalton Castle at RPW on 4/17 to go 3-0 for the week. You can see from these huge wins why Big Damo got a lot of support from the official voters for his first ever #1 ranking, but JUST missed out. Interestingly, the last time Trevor Lee was #1…Big Damo was #2. Maybe they need to lock horns at some point down the line! Beard vs. beard. Book it.
#3 Jordan Kage-The 2016 Smoky Mountain Cup Winner was another contender who got strong support from the official voters for the #1 spot this week as well. While it was technically only two victories to win the tournament, they were tremendous wins as he beat Timmy Lou Retton in the first round at NWA Smoky Mountain on 4/16 and then beat Chase Owens, Jason Kincaid, Ali Shabazz, Anthony Henry, & Jimmy Rave to win the 2016 Smoky Mountain Cup to go 2-0 for the week. If he had perhaps picked up ONE more victory (that we knew of) he likely would have gotten even closer to a #1 ranking, but as it stands, hey, #3 ain’t bad.
#4 Zack Sabre Jr. (@zacksabrejr)-If you’re feeling like you’ve seen ZSJ in the Top 10 a lot this year…don’t worry, you have. To say 2016 has been his year would be an understatement. The PWG World and Revolution Pro British Champion defeated Trent Seven at FCP on 4/15, then teamed with Marty Scurll to defeat Ricochet & Matt Sydal at RPW on 4/16, and then defeated Michael Elgin at RPW on 4/17 to go 3-0 for the week. Honestly, ZSJ had as good of an argument for #1 as anyone after the week he had and the wins he picked up, but he falls short this time around. Regardless, his 2016 has been unbelievable and it apparently isn’t slowing down any time soon.
#5 Tony Nese (@TonyNese)-It’s been a while since we’ve seen this Premier Athlete in the Top 10 but he earned his stripes yet again this past weekend at House of Hardcore. On 4/15 he picked up a big win as he beat Brian Cage and Brian Myers and then defeated Alex Reynolds and Chris Dickinson in an Elimination Match to go 2-0 for the week. Nese is as good of an athlete as you’ll ever see in a professional wrestling ring and if he can continue to pick up wins, there are very few that can out work him in that ring.
#6 Aaron Williams (@PlanetWillams)-The Rockstar Pro Champion is back in the Top 10 this week after a solid week all over the Midwest. On 4/12 he defeated Crazy Mary Dobson at Girl Fight, then beat Kyle Kraven at Rockstar Pro on 4/13, and then beat Cassius Cutcher at N.O.W. on 4/15 to go 3-0 for the week. His week was so good that even HE picked up a #1 vote from one of the official voters. Williams continues to be Mr. Reliable on the indies as he has been consistently ranked since we started doing this in 2013. He is truly one of the work horses out there right now.
#7 Martin Stone (@TheGuvnorMStone)-The former #1 is back in the Top 10 again this week as he picked up a couple of VERY impressive wins at USWA on 4/16 and AWE on 4/17. First, he beat Chip Day and then he beat Tommaso Ciampa. Two of the best talents anywhere fell at the feet of Martin Stone who gets himself a solid ranking despite a ton of competition this week and unfortunately for him, zero fan votes. Look out for Martin Stone as he has a ton of momentum going for him after this week.
#8 Drew Galloway (@GallowaySpeaks)-The TNA World Heavyweight Champion is still tearing it up on the indies. While his work IN TNA doesn’t count towards our rankings, his wins outside of TNA (even with the title on the line) DO count. On 4/15 he defeated Jack Jester at BCW to retain the title and then retained again vs. Eddie Ryan at PWA on 4/16 to go 2-0 for the week. Galloway has been tearing it up on the indies since his return in 2014 and despite his success on another stage, he continues to pick up big victories everywhere he goes.
#9 JXT (@OfficialJXT)-We get more Australian representation this week as JXT defeated Gabriel Wolfe at AWF in Australia on 4/16 by DQ, then then teamed with Dowie James to defeat Gabriel Wolfe & Slade Mercer the same day, then defeated Syd Parker on 4/17, and then defeated Josh Shooter the same day to go 4-0 for the week. Australia has really been pumping out some good rankings this year and obviously this week was no different. Will JXT be one of the talents from Down Under that returns to the rankings later this year? Stay tuned…
#10 Town Ellis-Town Ellis sneaks in at the #10 spot this week after a big victory in Ker’s Winghouse Cup over the weekend. At SCW on 4/15 defeated Derick Jordan in the first round, then defeated Rhett Giddens in the semifinals, and then defeated Braydon Knight in the final to win the Ker’s WingHouse Cup to go 3-0 for the week. This is the first time in the Top 10 for Ellis and if this past weekend was any indication, it won’t be the last.
People’s Champ. Jon Davis (@JonDavis817)-1/2 of the Dark City Fight Club wins his first People’s Champ Award this week with STRONG support from USWA as he is now their inaugural Elite Champion. On 4/16 he defeated Kameron Kade, Aaron Epic, and Jason Cade in a Fatal Four Way to become champion. With 155 votes from his fans and supporters he EASILY won this week’s online voting competition proving once again that USWA has a very good fan base. Be sure to check them out!
