Indy Power Rankings for the Week of April 11th, 2016

#1 Jonathan Gresham (@TheJonGresham)-This ranking has been 3 years in the making for Jonathan Gresham. His best rankings came in 2013 when he was flirting with #1 week after week. This week he made it happen by winning CZW’s Best of the Best Tournament, marking the second straight year that the CZW Best of the Best Winner has topped the rankings. His week had an auspicious start as he lost in a 4 Way to Aaron Williams where Williams won the Rockstar Pro Title on 4/8, but then he got things rolling as he beat Lio Rush & Joey Janela in the First Round of CZW’s BOTB, then beat Rickey Shane Page in Round 2, and then defeated David Starr to finally win the tournament. He followed that up with yet another impressive win as he beat Eddie Edwards at WWR on 4/10 to go 4-1 for the week. Congrats to “The Octopus” on his first #1!

#2 Jay Lethal (@TheLethalJay)-It’s not often you’ll see the ROH World Champion in the Top 10 but that’s simply because he was competing outside of ROH this past weekend. Jay Lethal continued his dominance atop the wrestling world as he defeated TW High Octane Division Champion Shady Nattrass by DQ at TW in a winner takes all match for both titles on 4/8 (both champs kept their titles) then defeated Mark Andrews on 4/9 at PWC to retain the ROH World Title and then defeated someone we’ve seen a lot of in the Top 10 this year in Joe Coffey at Discovery on 4/10 to retain the ROH World Title again to go 3-0 for the week. He had the best argument for #1 this week outside of Jonathan Gresham.

#3 Pete Dunne (@DynamiteDunne)-“Dynamite” Pete Dunne moves up four spots this week from #7 to #3 as his incredible 2016 continues. The Revolution Pro British Cruiserweight and PWK Champion defeated Eddie Kingston at SWE on 4/9, then beat Mark Haskins the same night, and then teamed with Damian Dunne at PROGRESS on 4/10 to defeat Moustache Mountain (Trent Seven & Tyler Bate) to go 3-0 for the week. Dunne is just rolling right along as 2016 has been his year. If he can keep this up, expect a VERY high ranking in the year-end IPR 100 for 2016.

#4 Jojo Bravo-Jojo Bravo scores his first ever ranking this week after winning the 2016 Texas J Cup at Texas Wrestling Entertainment. The ACW Unified Champion defeated Rique Jackson in the First Round, then beat Papi C in the Semi-Finals, and then beat Fantastico in the Final to win the tournament. Despite some really good weeks he had yet to crack the top 10 until this week when he finally gets the recognition he deserves with a VERY high ranking. Jojo Bravo is living proof that you can’t judge a book by its cover because he is just starting to pick up the momentum despite the naysayers.

#5 Jessicka Havok-As strange as this is, this is the first official ranking for Jessicka Havok. Keep in mind that much of her work has taken place at TNA in recent memory, BUT she excelled on the indies this past week. On 4/9 she defeated 3 of the best in the world when she took down Candice LeRae, Kimber Lee, & Heidi Lovelace at AAW in a Four-Way and then defeated Jenny Rose at WWR on 4/10 to go 2-0 for the week. Some big wins for Havok helped her to stand out this week and with as many bookings as she’s been picking up lately, you may be seeing her name pop up against this year in the Indy Power Rankings.

#6 Johnny Gargano (@JohnnyGargano)-The man who been ranked the most since the beginning of the Indy Power Rankings in 2013 gets ranked yet again this week. Despite his apparent plans to go to NXT full-time, Gargano was able to beat Alex Shelley twice at AIW on 4/8 (running him out of town in the process) and also beat Andrew Everett at AAW on 4/9. The only blemish on his record this past week was a loss in tag team action as he teamed with Candice LeRae at DREAMWAVE to lose to JT Dunn & Heidi Lovelace. So a 3-1 record for one of the very best on the planet gets him a #6 ranking…not too shabby.

#7 Alex Daniels-It’s another first in the Indy Power Rankings as Alex Daniels cracks the Top 10 for the very first time. He is the NEW AIW Intense Champion after beating BJ Whitmer, Brit Baker, Joshua Singh, Frankie Flynn, and Jerry on 4/8 to win the title. He followed that up with a win over Graham Wellington at Mega Championship Wrestling on 4/9 to go 2-0 for the week. That AIW Intense Title was enough to get Davey Vega a #1 ranking a couple of years ago (combined with some other wins) and it led to big things for Daniels as well. With AIW still being a big power in the Midwest, look out for Daniels to make some noise this year in the rankings.

#8 Tommaso Ciampa (@ProjectCiampa)-Much like Gargano, we’re not sure how much longer you’ll be seeing his name in the Indy Power Rankings, but under the circumstances, it’s a very good thing. If Ciampa is heading to NXT full-time, he’s heading out on top as he defeated one of the most consistent performers of 2016 in Zack Sabre Jr. at AAW on 4/9. Beating ZSJ means a lot, but to beat him at as big of a show as AAW put on that night meant just a bit more. If Ciampa truly is NXT bound…we’d like to wish the best of luck to him on the big stage.

#9 Thomas Walton III (@ThomasWaltonIII)-Thomas Walton III has been quietly toiling away in areas like Wisconsin over the last few years and HE finally gets his first official ranking. The Green Bay, WI native had a superb weekend as he defeated Jarrod Jax at ACW on 4/8 to become the inaugural ACW Water City Champion. He then beat Brock Hall at WPW on 4/9, then teamed with Outcast Movement at LPW on 4/10 to defeat The Voodoo Masters to retain the LPW Tag Team Titles to go 3-0 for the week. Walton is positive proof that hard work pays off and this week it paid off with a ranking.

#10 Jade (@JadeTNA)-The former Mia Yim is much like Jessicka Havok in that this is her first official ranking. Just like Havok, this is shocking because of her name value on the indies, but again, keep in mind that a lot of her time recently has been spent in TNA. Recently she has taken her talent to the UK where she is the Queen of Southside Champion at SWE. She defeated Lana Austin on 4/9 to retain the title and then beat Nixon Newell the same night to retain once again. Her 2-0 week sneaks her into the Top 10 on an insanely competitive week across the planet.

People’s Champ. Alex Titan (@alextitanx)-There can only be ONE People’s Champ despite an insane online voting competition this week and that People’s Champ is…Alex Titan. With 270 votes collected, he barely edged out Jason Savior for the top spot in the online voting competition and earned his first People’s Champ award since August 4, 2015. He got on the poll when he became NEW Undisputed IWA Heavyweight Champion when he beat Ryan Eagles in Australia on 4/9. He followed that up with a big win in the vote. You can follow him on Instagram at @alextitanx or you can give him a “like” on Facebook and message him to purchase his merchandise: https://www.facebook.com/alextitanfastlife

People’s Champ Runner-Up. Jason Savior (@savior_jason)- No knock against anyone else in the online voting competition this week (aside from Alex Titan) but this was an absolute beating by Titan and Savior. His first time on the ballot (in recent memory) and he destroyed all the other competition. The NEW KDW Triple Threat Champion got on the poll by beating Ashe Aubrey & Victor Lord on 4/9 and then his fans took care of the rest as he just missed out on the top spot.
