Indy Power Rankings for the Week of April 4th, 2016

#1 Nicole Savoy (@NikiMSavo)-“The Queen of Suplexes” gets her first-ever ranking this week and a large reason for it…is the fans. It was most certainly her hard work and dedication that helped her to win the Heart of SHIMMER Title, but it was the fans that broke a tie this week. The official voters were deadlocked on their choice between Nicole Savoy and Marty Scurll at #1 this week. All it took was a difference of 3 fan votes to elevate Savoy to her first #1 ranking. She most definitely earned it after defeating LuFisto in the First Round of the title tournament, then beat Kimber Lee in the Semi-Finals, and then beat Heidi Lovelace & Candice LeRae in an Elimination Match in the Finals to win the title. She beat four of the best wrestlers (not just female wrestlers) in the sport to secure the gold. It was an amazing week where Savoy shocked the world and took the #1.
#2 Marty Scurll (@MartyScurll)-For the second time this year, Marty Scurll JUST misses out on the top spot. The PROGRESS and FNW British Champion defeated Fred Yehi at EVOLVE on 4/1, then beat Will Ospreay at Wrestlecon to retain the PROGRESS Title on 4/2, and then beat Timothy Thatcher at EVOLVE in a non-title match the same day. He finally dropped a match in a six-man tag as he teamed with Will Ospreay & Tommy End to lose to Johnny Gargano, Kota Ibushi, & TJ Perkins at WWN Supershow the same day to go 3-1 for the week. It may have been that one loss that ultimately cost him the top spot this week, but his fans really could have saved him if they stepped up with more votes. Remember…the fan vote MATTERS.
#3 Kindred Kyamari-A 4-0 week earns Kindred Kyamari his very first ranking this week. On 4/1 at Adrenaline Championship Wrestling he beat Doyle Day in the First Round of the King of Maryland Tournament, then beat Michael Amaydo in the Semi-Finals, and then beat Steve Diaz in the Finals to win the tournament. He beat Kekoa at 302 Pro Wrestling on 4/2 to maintain his perfect week. INCREDIBLE week for someone who had not even earned votes yet in the Indy Power Rankings, but he absolutely knocked it out of the park this week with a very high first ranking.
#4 Kota Ibushi (@ibushi_kota)-This is Kota Ibushi’s first ranking this year and it’s a good one. The NEW KBB Hashtag Champion went 2-0 this week as he beat Tucor at Kaiju Big Battel on 4/1 to win the title and then teamed with Johnny Gargano & TJ Perkins to beat Will Ospreay, Tommy End, and Marty Scurll on 4/2 at WWN Supershow. If Ibushi is now indeed 100% and he continues to work various indies across the world, he could be a force to be reckoned with in the Indy Power Rankings. There’s a reason why he’s considered one of the best in the world and if he’s healthy, look the hell out.
#5 Da Mack-You may have seen Da Mack in our rankings before…but it wasn’t in singles. This is his first singles ranking as he had a fantastic week in Germany. On 4/1 he beat Kim Ray at wXw, then beat Sasa Keel on 4/2 to win the wXw Shotgun Title, and then wrapped up the week, defeating Kim Ray on 4/3 to retain the title. ½ of the EWP Tag Team Champions has gotten on a roll of a sudden. If people like Bad Bones and Karsten Beck are any indication, he could join an ever growing list of German wrestlers who have really made an impact on our rankings.
#6 Kasey Owens (@KaseyOwens5)-It was an insanely busy week for W3L Women’s Champion. On 3/31 she defeated Leah Owens in a Title vs. Face Match to retain the title which means that Leah must now wrestle under a mask. She then teamed with Davey Boy at GPWA on 4/1 to defeat Red Lightning & Molly Spartan, then defeated Lucy Cole at W3L on 4/2, then teamed with Leah Owens at Fierce Females on 4/3 to defeat Team BAE (Sammii Jayne & Debbie Sharp) and then lost in a rumble the same night to go 4-1 for the week. It was almost a perfect week for Kasey Owens, but likely the only thing that kept her from being higher was the mixture of low profile singles and tags wins, mixed with the battle royal loss. Regardless, it was a great week for Owens.
#7 Pete Dunne (@DynamiteDunne)-It’s been a ridiculously great year for Pete Dunne thus far and that kind of continued this week. We say “kind of” as it was a bit of an up and down weekend for Dunne. The Revolution Pro British Cruiserweight and PWK Champion defeated Blake at SWE on 3/31, then teamed with Eddie Kingston on 4/1 Attack! to defeat Eddie Dennis & Wild Boar, then teamed with Eddie Kingston at SWE on 4/2 to defeat El Ligero & Morgan Webster, then defeated Eddie Dennis and Wild Boar in a triple threat at Attack to retain the title, but then lost the title to Shay the referee to go 4-1 for the week. So he had a very impressive week, but it ended poorly. We have no doubt he’ll bounce back in quick fashion.
#8 Yosuke ❤ Santa Maria-The Dragon Gate Open the Brave Gate Champion continues to surprise people as he teamed with Ryo Jimmy Saito at Dragon Gate on 3/28 to defeat Over Generation (CIMA & Eita) then defeated Takehiro Yamamura on 3/29, and then defeated Kotoka on 4/2 to go 3-0 for the week. A couple of years ago people were pointing to him as one of the most entertaining acts in Dragon Gate and now that entertainment has turned into success. Santa Maria has been one of the more successful Dragon Gate wrestlers in 2016 and while many didn’t expect it, it’s fun to watch his rise.
#9 Bad Bones John Klinger (@TheGermanPsycho)-The SWE King of Switzerland Champion defeated Black Fire at wXw in Germany on 4/1 in the Semi-Finals of the Mitteldeutschland Cup 2016, then defeated Axel Dieter Jr. and Ilja Dragunov in the final to win the tournament. He lost his momentum when he lost a triple threat wXw title match to Jurn Simmons, but ended the week on a high note when he defeated wXw Unified Champion Jurn Simmons on 4/2 by DQ in a non-title match to go 3-1 for the week. “Bad Bones” just continues to pick up wins, tournament victories, and titles as he proves that good wrestling takes place all over the globe.
#10 Big Damo O’Connor (@BigBeardDamo)-The ICW World Heavyweight, Pride Wrestling, and XWA British Heavyweight Champion gets himself another ranking this week as he defeated Johnny Moss at ICW on 4/2 to retain the title and then scored a huge win on 4/3 when he beat Drew Galloway at ICW to retain the title. A 2-0 week earns him yet another ranking as he really is coming into his own this year. He came VERY close to getting a #1 ranking earlier this year and that may still come to pass sooner rather than later.
People’s Champ. Josef Von Schmidt (@JosefVonSchmidt)-It’s good to be JVS as wins his third online voting competition this year AFTER winning the PWA Ox Baker Colt School Title from Wrecking Ball Lergursky on 4/1. He then beat another former People’s Champ in Hippy Dicky Moon at GIW on 4/2 to go 2-0 for the week. He collected 83 votes from his fans to continue his resurgence in 2016. While his 2015 was good, his 2014 seemed to be better (at least as far as our rankings go). It will be tough to top his 2014, but he’s most definitely on the right track.
