Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of December 7th, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of December 7th, 2015

#1 Grits and Gravy (Bruce Grey & Jon Murray)-Much like To Infinity and Beyond last week. Grits and Gravy have just been plugging away doing their thing in 2015 with little to no recognition until BOOM…#1 ranking. They made themselves known this past week as they defeated Team SPF (Clayton Jackson & Darin Dinero) at Rockstar Pro on 12/2 and then beat The Baddest Killers Alive (Aaron Williams & Jake Crist) on 12/4 to win the Rockstar Pro Tag Team Titles to go 2-0 for the week. That was enough to get them their first-ever ranking AND their first-ever #1 ranking all in the same week. With Rockstar Pro running “Amped” shows every Wednesday, they’ll have a lot of opportunities to continue to get recognized heading into 2016.

#2 Osamu Nishimura & KENSO-This team also earned their first ranking this week as they had a lot of success at All Japan last week. They defeated Zeus & The Bodyguard at AJPW on 12/1, then defeated Suwama and Kento Miyahara on 12/5, and then defeated Wild Burning (Jun Akiyama and Takao Omori) on 12/6 to go 3-0 for the week. They certainly had an argument for #1 due to their strength of competition and amount of wins, but in the end, it was all about the gold as Grits and Gravy slightly edged them out for the top spot. They have a little bit of work to do if they hope to make it into the Tag Team Top 50 on 12/29 and 12/30. Tune in at http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork to find out if they make the cut!

#3 Hot and Spicy (Axel Dieter Jr. & Da Mack)-It’s been a while since saw Hot and Spicy in the Tag Team Top 5, but they’re back this week after a very successful week in Germany. The EWP Tag Team Champions teamed with Big Daddy Walter at wXw in Germany on 12/5 to defeat Karsten Beck & Reich Und Schön (Kevin Roadster & Marius van Beethoven) then defeated Karsten Beck & Kevin Roadster the same night, and then defeated Ivanov & Kim Ray on 12/6 to go 3-0 for the week. Again, three wins was HUGE for them, but they missed out on the top spot due to lack of winning or defending titles.

#4 Crown and Court (Los Ice Creams, Princess Kimber Lee, and Jervis Cottonbelly)-The biggest single victory of the entire week had to belong to Crown and Court as they defeated Wrecking Crew (Max Smashmaster, Blaster McMassive, Flex Rumblecrunch, and JAKA) at CHIKARA on 12/5 to win the 2015 Challenge of the Immortals. This was built up for months and there’s no doubt that this victory was absolutely huge. There were some things working against them from getting a higher ranking, however, as there usually is on any other week. Several teams with multiple wins, the fact that this is a 4-person team, and the lack of gold involved in this big victory were things that detractors may have used from keeping them out of the top spot. With all that being said, they absolutely deserved a ranking this week and they got it. Hopefully this isn’t the last we see of them teaming as a unit.

#5 The Iron Empire (Rob Conway & Matt Riviera)-Speaking of big victories over the weekend, there’s definitely an argument that the OTHER biggest single win of the entire week was the surprising victory of The Iron Empire as they defeated The Heatseekers to win the NWA World Tag Team Titles at NWA Smoky Mountain on 12/4. It’s really hard to call it an upset when you have former NWA World Champion Rob Conway as ½ of the team, but The Heatseekers had been on fire, so almost any loss would have been surprising. What made this a shocker was that the NWA World Tag Team Titles were on the line in a place that The Heatseekers have dominated. As we enter 2016, it will be interesting to see how long they can hang onto the straps.

People’s Champs. The Fellowship (GA West & Ronnie Ribs)-The Fellowship are now THREE time People’s Champs after absolutely crushing the other challengers in the online voting competition. The SPW Tag Team Champions retained their titles yet again as they defeated The Kool People on 12/5 to retain the gold.
