Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 30th, 2015
#1 To Infinity and Beyond (Cheech & Colin Delaney)-This is truly the little tag team that could as they just kept plugging away in 2015 until they finally reached the top spot in the Tag Team Top 5. Generally they’d be on the poll with one big victory on weeks where there were multiple teams with multiple wins and they would get snubbed quite frankly. This week was different. The AIW Tag Team Champions defeated Hot Sauce Entertainment (Tyson Dux & Tracy Williams) and Eric Ryan & Flip Kendrick on 11/27 to retain the titles, then beat The Batiri at ESW on 11/29, and then beat OI4K at 2CW on 11/29 to go 3-0 for the week. It was a tight race for #1 this week, but ultimately the official voters thought that all 3 of this team’s wins were enough to get them to the top spot this week. Congrats to Cheech & Colin Delaney on their first #1 ranking!
#2 Da Hit Squad (Dan Maff & Monsta Mack)-This was the other team with probably the best argument for #1 this week as they gained a lot of support from the official voters as well. They JUST miss out on the #1 this week after they defeated The Devastation Corporation (Flex Rumblecrunch & Max Smashmaster), The Viking War Party (Frank Wyatt & The American Viking) and The Beaver Boys (Alex Reynolds & John Silver) in the first round at Beyond on 11/28 and then defeated EYFBO (Angel Ortiz & Mike Draztik), The Doom Patrol (Chris Dickinson & Jaka) and Kimber Lee & Shynron in the finals to win the Tournament for Tomorrow Tag Team Tournament and go 2-0 for the week. Ultimately, the only true argument against them this week is that they had one less win than To Infinity and Beyond, BUT they beat many more teams in the span of two matches, so an argument for them can certainly be made. Regardless, it feels like 2001 again as these two monsters are back together and cracking heads.
#3 The Heatseekers (Elliott Russell & Sigmon)-This tag team got support from both the official voters and the fans as they tied for second in the online voting competition. Every single official voter had them on their ballot, whether they were 2, 3, 4, or 5. They did not get any first place votes from the official voters, which is a shame, because on most weeks they would have been #1. This week was highly competitive as the AML (and NWA World Tag Team Champions) defeated High Profile on 11/26 and then beat Brandon Scott and Axton Ray on 11/28 (afternoon) and then Buku Dao & Matt Lancie to retain the AML Tag Team Titles later in the day and then wrapped up the weekend by beating The Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) at Wrestlecade on 11/28. FANTASTIC week for one of the best teams on the indies going today.
#4 Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu & Ryo “Jimmy” Saito)-Despite 5 wins and no losses, the official voters weren’t sold on this Dragon Gate duo as three of the wins came vs. the same team. They beat Monster Express (Akira Tozawa and T-Hawk) at Dragon Gate on 11/25, then defeated CIMA and “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa three times on 11/28, and then teamed with Jimmy K-ness JKS on 11/29 to defeat VerserK (Naruki Doi, Shingo Takagi and Kotoka) to go undefeated on the week. Dragon Gate continues to dominate the rankings despite this team not getting a #1 ranking after a flawless week with 5 wins.
#5 Los Gueros del Cielo (Angelico & Jack Evans)-This isn’t the first time we’ve seen this tag team, but it’s the first in quite some time. The AAA World Tag Team Champions squeak right into the Top 5 this week as they defeated Averno & Hijo del Fantasma at Viva El Rey on 11/27 and 11/28 to go 2-0 for the week. More than likely what helped them get the #5 spot was the fact that they hold the AAA Tag Titles despite having beaten the same team twice. It’s been a solid year for this tag team, no doubt.
People’s Champs. Perth K9 (Dane & Odin)-Australia sends another tag team to win the online voting competition this week and Perth K9 does just that. The NEW SST Legacy Tag Team Champions defeated Sex Mafia at NHPW in Australia on 11/28 to win the titles and to get on the poll. They collected enough votes to edge out Randi West & Joey Venom for their first People’s Champs award to continue the dominance of the Australians in our online voting competition as they usually show up in large numbers. Congrats to Perth K9 on the big win!
