Indy Power Rankings for the Week of November 30th, 2015

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of November 30th, 2015

#1 Adam Cole (@AdamColePro)-ADAM COLE BAY-BAY! That wasn’t something we expected to put down on the rankings AT ALL this year, but on a weekend of super shows where we counted the results towards what we do (we don’t count ROH or New Japan shows) Adam Cole came through with a huge weekend. This is his first and likely only #1 this year. It’s been some time since we saw him in the Top 10 but the ROH star came back with a vengeance as he became the NEW PCW Cruiserweight Champion as he beat Bubblegum and El Ligero on 11/27 to win the title. He then defeated Ashton Smith on 11/28 to retain the title and then fought Dave Mastiff to a draw in an Iron Man match the same night, and then defeated Bubblegum on 11/29 to retain the title to go 3 wins and a draw for the week. This was absolutely out of left field, but it’s also great to see him back.

#2 Dave Mastiff (@DaveMastiff)-It’s the highest ranking of 2015 for this mastodon of a man! This seems closer than what it actually was as Adam Cole just edged out Mastiff for the #1 spot. The reason for it being so close is that there was an idea or thought that since Cole is under ROH contract, he shouldn’t qualify for the poll, thus at least one voter snubbed him completely. Not that Mastiff didn’t deserve #1…he EASILY got the #2 spot, but Cole’s star power kept him from the top spot. It was a great weekend for Dave Mastiff as the PCW Champion (and BCC, VPW and 1/2 of POW Tag Team Champions) defeated Roderick Strong at PCW on 11/27 to retain the title, then defeated Silas Young on 11/28 to retain again, and then fought Adam Cole to a draw in an Iron Man Match the same day, then defeated Eddie Dennis at Progress on 11/29 to go 3 wins and a draw for the week. Good to see the big man back in a top spot in the Top 10.

#3 Taeler Hendrix (@Taeler_Hendrix)-This was a surprise to a lot of the official voters as Taeler Hendrix scored a pretty big upset over the weekend at QOC. First though, she teamed with ODB and Tessa Blanchard at Wrestlecade on 11/28 to beat Team Havok (Havok, Barbi Hayden, & Amber O’Neal-Gallows). She then went to QOC where she beat Candice LeRae in the semi-finals of the title tournament and then beat Tessa Blanchard in the finals to win the vacant title and the tournament to go 3-0 for the week. Many thought that Santana Garrett (who couldn’t make it due to illness) or Tessa Blanchard were the odds on favorites to win the tournament, but Taeler Hendrix proved everyone wrong with her first ranking of the year.

#4 Sonjay Dutt (@sonjaydutterson)-Much like Taeler Hendrix, Sonjay Dutt shocked the independent wrestling world when he beat PJ Black at Wrestlecade to win the GFW NEX*GEN Title. He then beat Matt Sydal to go 2-0 for the week. With two wins over two former WWE superstars, it was really impossible to ignore his bid for a spot in the Top 10 this week, especially considering most GFW shows wouldn’t qualify for our rankings. Dutt gets in due to the title being defended on a show outside of GFW, which obviously turned out quite well for him, earning him his first ranking of 2015.

#5 Hiraku Sato-Even on a week like this where it was ultra-competitive, it was impossible to ignore anyone with a 5-0 record in on week. Hiraku Sato gets his first ranking as he teamed with Dory Funk Jr. & Atsushi Aoki at AJPW on 11/23 to defeat Masanobu Fuchi, Yoshinobu Kanemaru and Masao Inoue, then defeated Jake Lee on 11/24, then teamed with Atsushi Aoki on 11/25 to defeat Kotaro Suzuki and Yohei Nakajima, then teamed with Atsushi Aoki on 11/28 to defeat Tsuyoshi Kikuchi and Aizawa #1, and then defeated Keiichi Sato on 11/29. With 7 straight victories, Hiraku Sato is on fire right now.

#6 Mark Coffey (@m_coffey90)-It was a GREAT week for Mark Coffey as he gets his first singles ranking after the NEW Scottish Heavyweight Champion (and 1/2 of SWA, ICW Tag Team Champions) defeated Drew Galloway at SWA on 11/27 to win the title, then defeated Jack Gallagher at SWA on 11/28 to retain the title, and then teamed with Jackie Polo at ICW on 11/29 to defeat The 55 (Sha Samuels & Kid Fite) to retain the tag titles and go 3-0 for the week. Impressive stuff for one of the UK’s finest as we head into the end of the year. While the IPR 100 doesn’t look like a possibility, look out for him to make waves in the Tag Team Top 50 with Jackie Polo.

#7 Jimmy Susumu-In terms of amount of wins, Jimmy Susumu had the most successful week, going 6-0 at Dragon Gate. He defeated Takehiro Yamamura at Dragon Gate on 11/23, then teamed with Ryo “Jimmy” Saito on 11/25 to defeat Monster Express (Akira Tozawa and T-Hawk) then teamed with Ryo “Jimmy” Sato on 11/28 to defeat CIMA and “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa three times, and then teamed with Ryo “Jimmy” Saito and Jimmy K-ness JKS on 11/29 to defeat VerserK (Naruki Doi, Shingo Takagi and Kotoka). It was a fantastic week without a doubt, but the voters weren’t completely swayed by the 3 wins over the same opponent, but they DID give him credit for his victories as a whole.

#8 Donovan Dijak (@DonovanDijak)-Dijak has been so busy with ROH this year that he hasn’t been ranked in the Top 10…until now. He DOMINATED Beyond over the weekend with two HUGE victories vs. JT Dunn and Chris Hero to go 2-0 on the week. With 8 wins in his last 11 matches outside of ROH, Dijak continues to do big things where ever he goes. Catch him on the Indy Power Rankings Live from last week here:

#9 Zack Sabre Jr. (@zacksabrejr)-Perhaps the best technical wrestler on Planet Earth and the former #1 returns to the Top 10 this week after a pretty successful week in NOAH. ½ of the wXw Tag Team Champions teamed with Hitoshi Kumano & Mitsuhiro Kitamiya at NOAH on 11/23 to defeat Captain NOAH, Genba Hirayanagi & Yoshinari Ogawa, then defeated Yoshinari Ogawa on 11/26, then teamed with Daisuke Harada & Genba Hirayanagi on 11/28 to defeat Yoshinari Ogawa, Super Crazy and Hitoshi Kumano, but then teamed with Captain NOAH, Genba Hirayanagi to lose to Hitoshi Kumano, Super Crazy & Yoshinari Ogawa on 11/29 to go 3-1 for the week. ZSJ, like Dijak, has now won 8 matches out of his last 11. Look out for him to secure a good ranking in the IPR 100. Where would you put him? We’ll see how he placed on 12/29 and/or 12/30 on the two night IPR 100 Reveal Shows!

#10 Roderick Strong (@RoderickStrong)-It was all about ROH star power this week as this was a week where it was an exception with us including the PCW Supershow results in the Indy Power Rankings voting. The ROH World Television Champion and PWG World Champion benefited greatly as he started off slowly, losing to Dave Mastiff on 11/27, but bounced back as he then defeated Bubblegum, Charlie Garrett, Dave Rayne, El Ligero and Kenny King in a six-way, then defeated Lionheart by DQ the same day, and then defeated ROH Champion Jay Lethal in a non-title match on 11/29 to go 3-1 for the week. One of the best in the world returns to the IPR and you can bet he’ll be in the IPR 100 this year despite his ROH commitments throughout the year.

People’s Champ. Johnathan Lone Wolf (@johnathan_wolf)-It’s a second People’s Champ Award for Johnathan Lone Wolf as he collected 43 votes from his fans and supporters to win the online voting competition this week after he defeated Trevor Court on 11/26 to retain the NWA CCW Junior Heavyweight Title. Lone Wolf has come out of nowhere to have an amazing 2015 and we expect it to only get better for this youngster in 2016.
