Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 23rd, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 23rd, 2015

#1 Monster Express (Masato Yoshino & T-Hawk)-8-0 speaks for itself. Monster Express represents once again in tags as they sweep the rankings this week with a #1 in singles and tags. Masato Yoshino does something very rare as he is #1 in both singles and tags this week as well. There could be a strong argument for any of the teams in the rankings this week to be #1, but at the end of the day, the 8-0 record in a single week just could not be ignored. This particular pair from the M.E. stable get their first #1 as they defeated CIMA and “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa twice at Dragon Gate on 11/16, then defeated Masaaki Mochizuki and “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa three times in a row at Dragon Gate on 11/17, then teamed with Akira Tozawa on 11/18 to defeat VerserK (YAMATO, Shingo Takagi and Kotoka) then defeated Don Fujii and Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! on 11/19, and then teamed with Akira Tozawa on 11/22 to defeat Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu, Jimmy Kanda and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito) to go 8-0 for the week.

#2 Team Tremendous (Bill Carr & Dan Barry)-You have to assume that on almost any other week this tag team would have been easily #1. 8-0 was just tough to overcome. That being said, they did get some support from the official voters at the #1 spot, but just missed out, grabbing a #2 ranking and helping their stock in the Tag Team Top 50 for this year. The CZW World Tag Team Champions (and ISW Tag Team Champions) teamed with Juba the Cop at NLW on 11/20 to defeat East Coast Bastard Crew, then defeated The Dollhouse (Jade aka Mia Yim & Marti Belle) at the joint CZW/WSU event on 11/21 to retain the CZW titles, and then got their win back against The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter) at the CZW event the same night to retain again and go 3-0 for the week. Impressive week to say the least for one of the best tag teams in North America.

#3 World’s Greatest Tag Team (Shelton Benjamin & Charlie Haas)-It’s interesting to see WGTT back in the mix of things, getting their first official ranking this year. This duo defeated The Wolves (Eddie Edwards & Davey Richards) at OVW on 11/21 in the semi-finals of the Danny Davis Invitational Tournament and then defeated Wild Boyz (Eddie Diamond & Bud Dwight) in the final to win the tournament to go 2-0 for the week. Their name value and prestige most certainly helped them get the #3 spot this week, but they also had 2 impressive wins as well. We hope to see more from them as a team in 2016!

#4 D Ramos & Irish Jack-Here’s another team that could have easily been #1 on any other week. A 4-0 record gets them in as they won the Wild Samoan Tag Team Tournament over the weekend to win the WXW Tag Team Champions. They defeated Shadow & Diamond Kid in the first round, then defeated the MMs in the semifinals, then defeated Samoan Hawaiian Island Tribe in the final to win the Wild Samoan Tag Team Tournament and then defeated The Prophesy on 11/21 to win the titles. It was a DOMINANT week for this tag team as they pick up their first ranking.

#5 Blue Demon Jr, Dr. Wagner Jr., & Rey Mysterio Jr.-This trio gets their first ranking together as they had an insane week together. Look at their strength of competition and you’ll see why they grab the #5 spot this week (and could have been even higher). They defeated Brodus Clay, Matt Cross & Drew Galloway at Viva El Rey on 11/19, then defeated Brodus Clay, Matt Cross & Drew Galloway on 11/20, and then defeated Carlito, Brodus Clay & Drew Galloway on 11/21 to go 3-0 for the week. These three talents are undoubtedly stars and that’s exactly who they beat in all 3 matches. STARS.

People’s Champs. Team IOU (@TeamIOU Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy)-The PGP Tag Team Champions are back in a spot they’ve been in so many times in the past that we’ve lost track. Granted, it hasn’t happened AS MUCH in 2015, but they’ve been busy having a career year. Over the weekend they once again successfully defended their PGP Tag Team Titles when they beat Kenny Sutra & Matt Knicks on 11/21 to retain the titles. They collected 92 votes in the online voting competition to return to the top of the fan vote once again. Look out for one or both of them to join us for Day 2 of the Tag Team Top 50 Reveal on 12/30!
