Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 9th, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 9th, 2015

#1 Monster Express (Akira Tozawa & Masato Yoshino)-THE most dominant stable on the face of God’s Green Earth finds their way into the #1 spot again. Dragon Gate is known for producing some impressive stables, but Monster Express is just ridiculous. This was an easy #1 for them after a 4-0 week at Dragon Gate. Despite not having any titles together at the moment, these former #1’s found their way to the top spot once again. They teamed with T-Hawk at Dragon Gate on 10/3 to defeat VerserK (Shingo Takagi, Naoki Tanizaki and Cyber Kong) then defeated Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Jimmy Kanda) on 10/4, then defeated Jimmyz (Genki Horiguchi H.A.Gee.Mee!! and Ryo “Jimmy” Saito) on 11/7 , and then defeated Jimmyz (Jimmy Susumu and Jimmy Kanda) on 11/8 to go undefeated. They have won TEN straight matches, which is actually not even that great considering the other streaks they’ve been on at various times throughout the year. Congratulations to Tozawa & Yoshino on another #1!

#2 Thunder Rock (Io Shirai & Mayu Iwatani)-This tag team was really the only team this week with a shot at getting the #1 outside of Monster Express. The Goddess of Stardom Tag Team Champions defeated Alex Lee & Kaori Yoneyama in the quarterfinals of the Goddesses of Stardom Tag League, then earned a bye in the semifinals, and finally beat Santana Garrett & Hiroyo Matsumoto in the finals to win the tournament with a 2-0 record this week. While the tournament win is AMAZING, what is right up there with it is the fact that they ended Santana Garrett’s undefeated streak…even if it was in a tag team match. With less than 2 months to go…can they climb into the Tag Team Top 50 at the end of the year?

#3 Nightmare Warriors (Frightmare & Hallowicked)-This CHIKARA tandem had an argument for perhaps the toughest competition over the weekend as they defeated The Gentleman’s Club (Chuck Taylor & Orange Cassidy) at CHIKARA on 11/7 and then beat The Throwbacks (Dasher Hatfield & Mark Angelosetti), Cajun Crawdad & Hermit Crab, and The Osirian Portal (Amasis & Ophidian) in a Four-Way Elimination Match on 11/8 to go 2-0 for the week. On a weaker week they may have even been #1 in the Tag Team Top 5 but as it stands, they’re sitting at #3 with the possibility of moving up if they can build on this in the near future.

#4 The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter @BeardedBullys)-So these Hooligans don’t EVER rest on their laurels and this past weekend was further proof of that as they had another solid weekend with wins at AAW (retaining the AAW Tag Team Titles) vs. Team Tremendous on 11/6. They then traveled to SNPW where they teamed with Roscoe Eat Lisa to beat Cash Borden, Frank Wyatt, Cole James, & Tyler (?) to go 2-0 for the week. Let’s not forget they are also the FIP, UPW, Zero-1 USA, RAPW, and Outlaw Wrestling Tag Team Champions as well. Devin Cutter talked about their upcoming weekend at SLA and a shot at the CZW World Tag Team Titles here: http://www.blogtalkradio.com/elitepodcastnetwork/2015/11/10/indy-power-rankings-reveal-saint-louis-anarchycarolina-corner

#5 BJ Strong (Yuji Okabayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto)-Last week’s #1 and BJW Tag Team Champions drop a few spots due to some stiff competition, but they certainly had an argument for an even higher ranking this week. They’ve won 7 straight matches and went 2-0 on the week, so the debate can certainly be had. They beat Hideyoshi Kamitani and Yoshihisa Uto on 11/8 in a non-title match and then teamed with Abdullah Kobayashi, DAISUKE, Atsushi Maruyama, “Kokutenshi” Jaki Numazawa, Hercules Senga, Tsutomu Osugi, Ryuji Ito and Takayuki Ueki the same day to defeat Kazuki Hashimoto, Masaya Takahashi, Toshiyuki Sakuda, Brahman Kei, Brahman Shu, Yoshihisa Uto, Hideyoshi Kamitani, Masato Inaba, Kankuro Hoshino and Kazumi Kikuta in a falls count anywhere match. The one thing that may have hurt them (but somehow was ignored with Monster Express) is the lack of diversity in their competition as they normally only compete in one promotion. Despite that, they’re still having a phenomenal year.

People’s Champs. Detroit vs. Everybody (Cassidy Cain & Jon’tae Kieth)-This tag team has been destroying all-comers in the online voting competition all year along. They’ve won 3 People’s Champs awards THIS year and four overall. They got on the ballot by beating Tony Myers & Kraig Stagg at WPW on 11/7 and with 5 wins in their last 7 matches, they JUST missed out on the Top 5 this week. If they can collect some gold and maybe win 2 or more matches in a single week, it’s likely they’ll crack the Top 5 sooner rather than later. In the interim, they collected 114 votes to prove their overwhelming popularity yet again.
