Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 2nd, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of November 2nd, 2015

#1 BJ Strong (Yuji Okabayashi & Daisuke Sekimoto)-So for the last 2 out of 3 weeks, we’ve got BJ Strong at #1. This tag team was having a fantastic 2015 and it just got even better in October/November as they scored their first #1 ranking and now their second. With a 5-0 record, they damn near swept the official voters’ ballots this week at the #1 spot. They are the NEW BJW Tag Team Champions and their week was pure dominance as they defeated Hideyoshi Kamitani and Yoshihisa Uto at BJW on 10/26, then teamed with Yoshihisa Uto on 10/27 to defeat Kazuki Hashimoto, Daichi Hashimoto and Hideyoshi Kamitani, then defeated Kankuro Hoshino & Masato Inaba in the semifinals on 10/29, then defeated Kohei Sato & Shuji Ishikawa in the final the same day to win the 2015 BJW Saikyo Tag League and the tag titles, and then defeated Hideyoshi Kamitani & Yoshihisa Uto on 10/30. Absolute dominance personified.

#2 Contra-Versy (Davey Vega & Tim Storm)-The only other team to receive a first place vote among the official voters were the winners of the Inspire Pro Tag Team Title Tournament and NEW Champions, Davey Vega & Tim Storm. They easily secured the #2 spot this week after they defeated Sky De Lacrimosa, The Park Avenue Boys (Zac Taylor & DG Taylor), The Pump Patrol (Jared Wayne & Curt Matthews), The Hooded Menace (The Great Depression & The Hollywood Strangler) and Jessica James & Delilah Doom in a quarterfinal gauntlet, then defeated The Princes Of The Universe (Terrale Tempo & Donovan Danhausen) in the semifinals, and then defeated Matthew Palmer & Andy Dalton in the final to win the tournament and the titles and to go 3-0 for the week. On any other week they would have been the clear cut #1.

#3 Los Ben Dejos (Jay Cruz & Jay Rios)-“Team Lucha” returns to the Top 5 as they had a good week as the NWA FUW Tag Team Champions scored wins at VLL including defeating Trevor “TC” Read & “Main Man” Edward Malken at VLL on 10/31 and then teaming with Lince Dorado at NWA FUW on 11/1 to defeat Jester Yorick, TC Read & Teddy Stigma. During their PWX Tag Title run we saw a lot of them in the Tag Team Top 5 and with their recent success, we expect to see a lot more of them soon as well.

#4 The Dirty Blondes (Leo Brien & Mike Patrick)-The NEW NWA Florida Tag Team Champions get their first ranking as they defeated the former People’s Champs in Generation Genesis (Jeff Boom & Mitch Mitchell) at NWA FUW on 10/27 to win the titles and then beat Stateline (Damien Angel & Eddie Taurus) on 11/1 to retain the titles to go 2-0 on the week. With wins in 8 of their last 10 matches, they might be making a last minute push to find their way into the year-end Tag Team Top 50. Not an easy task, but if they can keep up the momentum, it could happen!

#5 The Kingdom (Matt Taven & Michael Bennett)-The ROH World Tag Team Champions get into the Tag Team Top 5 this week after a victory at XWA on 11/1 vs. Brian Fury & Julian Starr. This tag team would certainly be ranked far more frequently if they weren’t doing so many ROH and New Japan shows (which don’t qualify for our rankings) but we’re quite sure they don’t mind. With 7 straight wins outside of ROH and New Japan, this tag team is on fire no matter where they’re booked week-to-week.

People’s Champs. Curtus Jaxx & Nick Skitz-QWA in Australia sweeps the online voting competitions this week as the QWA Tag Team Champions become People’s Champs this week after they defeated Six Til Two in Australia on 10/31 to win the titles. Congratulations to them on their first People’s Champs award and to the company as a whole on a tremendous week.
