Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of October 5th, 2015

Tag Team Top 5 for the Week of October 5th, 2015

#1 ZACK DADDY (Big Daddy Walter & Zack Sabre Jr.)-To be honest, this wasn’t even close. Despite some really, really good weeks from other teams, there was no doubt in the official voters’ minds as to who should be #1 this week. Walter & Sabre owned the official ballots. With a clean sweep of the official voters and a little support from the fans, this team burst on to the scene as the #1 this week. They are the NEW wXw Tag Team Champions after they defeated Reich & Schön (Marius van Beethoven & Kevin Roadster) at wXw in Germany in the first round on 10/2, then defeated BULLET CLUB (Doc Gallows & Karl Anderson) in the second round the same night, then defeated Calamari Catch Kings (Chris Brookes & Jonathan Gresham) in the semifinals on 10/4, and then defeated reDRagon (Bobby Fish & Kyle O’Reilly) in the final to win the tournament and the vacant titles and to go 4-0 for the week. They beat some of the best tag teams on Earth and glided to the #1 spot this week. Congratulations to them!

#2 The Hooligans (Devin & Mason Cutter @BeardedBullys)-Another week and another set of tag team titles for the boys from Brutalsville, U.S.A. who now hold FIVE sets of tag team titles on the indies. They are the NEW RAPW (and FIP, AAW, UPW and Zero-1 USA) Tag Team Champions as they defeated Randy & Koko Anderson at RAPW on 10/2 to win the titles, then defeated Bull Bronson & Alex Rudolph the same night to retain the titles, and then beat Alex Rudolph & Bull Bronson at NBW on 10/3 to go 3-0 for the week. As you’ve seen the last few weeks, The Hooligans aren’t going anywhere. They continue their grind. Broken jaws, knee issues, and other injuries have not stopped them and they damn sure haven’t slowed down a pair of the last Outlaws of Wrestling. Can they continue that success this weekend at their own Outlaw Wrestling? Time will tell.

#3 reDRagon (Kyle O’Reilly & Bobby Fish)-It’s been since January or so since we’ve seen this tag team in the Tag Team Top 5 and that’s simply because they wrestle in promotions where their success isn’t eligible for this list since we don’t consider New Japan and ROH indies for the purposes of our rankings. That being said, they did work wXw Germany over the weekend and came JUST short of winning the tag titles and getting yet another #1 ranking. The IWGP Junior Heavyweight Tag Team Champions defeated ACH & Tommaso Ciampa in the first round of the wXw Tag Team Title tournament and then defeated Sumerian Death Squad (Michael Dante & Tommy End) in the quarterfinals, then defeated Hot And Spicy (Axel Dieter Jr. & Da Mack) in the semifinals on 10/4 before losing in the final to Big Daddy Walter & Zack Sabre Jr in the final to go 3-1 for the week. Despite them achieving huge success elsewhere, it’s great to see them back on our list if even for just a week.

#4 Bambi Hall & Kat Von Heez-A 3-0 week gets this team a surprising ranking for the very first time. Bambi double dipped this week as she was ranked in both singles and tags. This duo teamed with Jacob Creed at CWE on 9/28 to defeat Bobby Collins, Aja Perera, & Sahara Se7en, then defeated Aja Perera & Sahara Se7en on 9/29, and then defeated The Cannon Clan (Bobby Collins & Kevin Cannon) on 10/2 to go 3-0 for the week. Is this a one and done scenario for them or will we be seeing them again in the rankings before the end of 2015? Some titles around their waists would definitely help!

#5 Team IOU (Kerry Awful & Nick Iggy @TeamIOU)-Our most decorated team as far as the online voting competition didn’t even crack the Top 5 in the fan voting this week, BUT they do re-enter the Tag Team Top 5 once again. The PGP Tag Team Champions are back yet again as they defeated Tony Anthony and Mike Cobb on 10/2 at SWF and then beat Livewire Entertainment at Empire Pro on 10/3 to go 2-0 on the week. By no means was this their best week but when you look at their overall body of work and what they’ve accomplished so far in 2015, Team IOU have been as good as anyone in tag team wrestling.

People’s Champs. High Level Enterprise (Jack Gamble & Jon Webb)-The elephant in the room with the online voting competition is always teams or individuals that have a supporter or two that know how to “cheat the poll” to win the People’s Champs award. Accusations were thrown out this week, which wasn’t the first time for that type of thing. For us, we just let it ride as we enjoy the fact that so many teams WANT to win this competition, regardless of how it is. What’s wrestling without cheating anyway? With 647 votes, the NEW Dynamo Pro Tag Team Champions won the People’s Champ award this week for the very first time after winning the titles in a hard-fought battle against IPR Regulars, The Black Hand Warriors on 10/3.
