Indy Power Rankings for the Week of August 31st, 2015

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of August 31st, 2015

#1 Zack Sabre Jr. (@zacksabrejr)-PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles was primed to produce yet another #1 ranking this week and Zack Sabre Jr. is the man! The weekend didn’t start out great for Sabre as he teamed with Tommy End & Marty Scurll to lose to Mount Rushmore 2.0 (Young Bucks & Roderick Strong) on 8/29, but he bounced back by beating Ricochet, then Pentagon Jr., then Marty Scurll, and finally Chris Hero and Speedball Mike Bailey in the finals on 8/30 to win the tournament to go 4-1 for the week. It was a return to the #1 spot for perhaps the best technical wrestler on Planet Earth. Congrats to ZSJ!

#2 Cheerleader Melissa (@FutureLegendCF)-On any other week Cheerleader Melissa would have her long overdue #1 ranking, but this week was the week where everything else in independent wrestling was overshadowed by PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles. That being said, Cheerleader Melissa still had a PHENOMENAL weekend where she defeated Nicole Savoy, then Brittany Wonder, and then Thunder Rosa to win the Lady Luck Tournament at GRPW on 8/29. With a 3-0 weekend, this #2 ranking is surprisingly her highest ranking ever. More to come in 2015? Stay tuned!

#3 Anderson Tyson Moore (@pcwaction_atm)-The CWE Champion comes back to the Top 10 once again as he defeated Silas Young on 8/26 to retain the title, then beat Chase Owens on 8/27 to retain the title again, then beat Travis Cole on 8/28, and then wrapped up the weekend when he beat Shelton Benjamin & Jason Kincaid in a Triple Threat on 8/29 to retain the title. With a 4-0 week, Anderson Tyson Moore absolutely earned a very high ranking this week as he continues to make big waves in Canada.

#4 Santana Garrett (@SantanaGarrett_)-It’s another week and another ranking for the most successful female wrestler in the world (or perhaps, the most successful on the indies, PERIOD this year). The NWA and CWE Vixens (and Shine, Ring Warriors, Battling Bombshells and OPW) Women’s Champion defeated Grace Storm at CWE on 8/28 to retain the NWA and CWE titles, then defeated Grace Storm at Kissimme Pro Wrestling on 8/29 to retain the NWA title, and then defeated MJ Knight the same night to retain the NWA title again to go 3-0 for the week. She has won 34 of her last 35 matches with the one non-win being a draw. She is the definition of DOMINANCE in 2015.

#5 Isami Kodaka-A 4-0 week gets Isami Kodaka another great ranking after winning the UPW Max Title. The World Junior Heavyweight Champion defeated Tatsuhiko Yoshino at Guts World on 8/24 to retain the title, then defeated Atsushi Maruyama at DDT on 8/28 to win the Natsu Koshien tournament, then teamed with Takumi Tsukamoto at BJW on 8/30 to defeat Abdullah Kobayashi & Takayuki Ueki in a barbed wire board match, and then defeated FUMA at UPW the same day to win the title.

#6 Ace Perry (@AcePerryIndy)-One of the surprise former #1’s this year continues to experience success in 2015 as he defeated Adam Bueller in Round 1 of the Paradox Pro Wrestling Secret Wars Tournament on 8/27, then beat Russ Jones, and then won the tournament by defeating Jake Omen in the finals. Ace Perry has been a breakout star in the Midwest in 2015, earning comparisons to a young Matt Sydal. Can he continue the push to become one of the next big things on the indies?

#7 Eddie Edwards (@TheEddieEdwards)-It’s rare that you see ½ of the TNA Tag Team Champions earn a ranking based on his work on the indies. This past week was special for Edwards as he teamed with Davey Richards on 8/28 to defeat The Revolutionists (Josh Bodom & James Castle) at RPW, then teamed with Davey Richards on 8/29 to defeat Martin Kirby & Joey Hayes at PCW, then teamed with Davey Richards on 8/29 at BWP to defeat The YOLO Squad, and then defeated Jimmy Havoc on 8/30 to go 4-0 for the week. There’s a great possibility you’ll see him pop up in the Tag Team Top 5 as well.

#8 Chris Hero (@TheChrisHero)-PWG’s Battle of Los Angeles produced another ranking in the Top 10 as Chris Hero battled Timothy Thatcher, Biff Busick, and Jack Evans all the way to the finals where he was finally defeated by Zack Sabre Jr. A 3-1 week and a Finals appearance in the Battle of Los Angeles was plenty to get him ranked yet again in the Top 10, proving that Chris Hero is STILL one of the absolute best wrestlers in the world.

#9 Speedball Mike Bailey (@SpeedballBailey)-Like Chris Hero, his success in the Battle of Los Angeles earned him another ranking this week. He fell one slot lower than Hero as he was eliminated before Hero in the Finals, but it’s still nothing to be ashamed of considering the opponents. He scored a HUGE victory vs. Drew Galloway in the first round, then beat Tommy End in Round 2, then beat Will Ospreay in the semi-finals before losing to Zack Sabre Jr. in the finals to go 3-1 on the weekend. Every single victory Bailey earned was over a former #1. Impressive to say the least.

#10 Jax Dane (@TheJaxDane)-The only person to get ranked this week with only one big win under his belt was the man who became the NEW NWA World Heavyweight Champion. Jax Dane defeated Hiroyoshi Tenzan at NWA BOW on 8/29 to win the title to add his name to the illustrious list of champions in the lineage of one of the oldest tiltes in the United States. While the title may not have the prestige that it once did, carrying that title and beating someone like Tenzan holds a lot of weight to this day.

Co-People’s Champ. James Anthony (@87JamesAnthony)-1/2 of F1rst Generation scores a piece of another People’s Champ award as at 10 PM EST on 8/31 when the poll ended, he was tied with Seth Tylors for the #1 spot. In typical polldaddy fashion, the poll didn’t close at that time, but the voting had ended. A 2-1 week earned the AIWF Mid-Atlantic Cruiserweight Champion and ½ of the PWF Tag Team Champions a spot on the ballot and then he collected 141 votes by the time the poll closed on the website.

Co-People’s Champ. Seth Tylors-QWA in Australia produces another big winner as Seth Tylors tied James Anthony in the online vote after earninig the spot on the ballot by defeating The Choff and Karlos Aries on 8/29 to win the QWA Title. QWA continues to produce some of the top talent in Australia as that continent gets more and more exposure week after week in our rankings.
