Indy Power Rankings for the Week of August 10th, 2015

Indy Power Rankings for the Week of August 10th, 2015

#1 Matt Tremont (@TremontCZW)- …and NEW CZW World Champion! “The Bulldozer” Matt Tremont claims his 3rd #1 ranking this year. He started the week off by defeating Mikael in a violent match at Rockstar Pro on 8/7, then gained a measure of revenge when he beat Pepper Parks in a Street Fight on 8/8 at CZW, and then lived his dream when he defeated Blk Jeez the same night to win the CZW World Title. The Bulldozer has been absolutely unstoppable in 2015 winning 2 HUGE death match tournaments and now holding the title that has eluded him for quite some time. Is 2015 the year of The Bulldozer?

#2 Jimmy Havoc (@JimmyHavoc)-What an amazing week for Jimmy Havoc as he absolutely DOMINATED the UK from top to bottom. He is now the NEW SWE Speed King Champion, IPW:UK All England Champion and NEW IPW:UK World Champion (and NWA United Kingdom Junior Heavyweight Champion and FPW Champion) after he teamed with Kay Lee Ray at SWE on 8/8 to defeat El Ligero & Nixon Newell, then defeated El Ligero the same night to win the title, and then defeated Bad Bones John Klinger on 8/9 at IPW:UK to retain the All England title and win the world title in a TLC title unification match to go 3-0 for the week. It was an absolutely phenomenal weekend for one of the best talents in the UK.

#3 Daisuke Harada-It was a HUGE week for Daisuke Harada as he defeated last week’s #1 El Desperado at NOAH on 8/5, then defeated Atsushi Kotoge in the final the same day to win the Global Junior Heavyweight League, then teamed with Yoshihiro Takayama at NOAH on 8/8 to defeat Mohammed Yone and Hitoshi Kumano, and then defeated Naoki Sakurajima at Kyushu Pro on 8/9 to go 4-0 for the week. On any other week, there’s a very good chance that Harada would have been #1 but this week was ultra-competitive, causing some lower rankings for people who could have easily been #1 on other weeks.

#4 Jimmy Rave (@TheJimmyRave)-Much like the three competitors before him, the GHC Champion had a week that could have scored him another #1 on most other weeks. On 8/7 he defeated Anthony Henry at EPW, then beat Gunner Miller in the semi-finals of the Scenic City Invitational on 8/8, and then finished off the week when he won a four-way vs. Kongo Kong, Gunner, and Corey Hollis to go 3-0 for the week. With wins in 11 of his last 12 matches outside of Global Force Wrestling, Rave is having a very unlikely, but very welcome impact on the indies in 2015.

#5 CIMA-5-0 at Dragon Gate and couldn’t even get a #1 ranking this week? That speaks to just how STRONG the Indy Power Rankings Top 10 competition was this week from top to bottom. 1/3rd of Open the Triangle Gate Champions teamed with Don Fujii and Gamma at Dragon Gate on 8/6 to defeat Masaaki Mochizuki, Dragon Kid and Big R Shimizu, then teamed with Shachihoko BOY on 8/7 to defeat “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa, then defeated “Hollywood” Stalker Ichikawa and Shachihoko BOY in a triple threat the same day, then teamed with B-B to defeat BxB Hulk and Super Shisa on 8/8, and then teamed with Gamma to defeat Dragon Kid and Eita. It was an impressive week but his reliance on tag wins may have kept him from a higher spot this week.

#6 Minoru Suzuki-It shows you how crazy of a week it is when the GHC Heavyweight Champion goes 3-0 but fails to get into the Top 5 of the Indy Power Rankings. That being said, he tagged with Lance Archer, Davey Boy Smith Jr. and Shelton Benjamin at NOAH on 8/5 to defeat MAYBACH Taniguchi, Yoshihiro Takayama, Katsuhiko Nakajima and Mikey Nicholls, then teamed with Takashi Iizuka, Taichi, El Desperado and TAKA Michinoku at NOAH on 8/8 to defeat Hajime Ohara, Ken-o, MAYBACH Taniguchi, Takashi Sugiura and Mitsuhiro Kitamiya, and then defeated Mio Shirai at Wave on 8/9 to retain the GHC title. On any other week he may have been #1 just like several others in the Top 10 this week.

#7 Shingo Takagi-Shingo is one of the few Dragon Gate competitors that can boast that he has won multiple singles matches during the span of a week, but that’s just what he did as he defeated BxB Hulk and Masato Yoshino in a Triple Threat at Dragon Gate on 8/6, then beat Kzy on 8/7, and then finished off the week by beating Jimmy Kanda on 8/9 to go 3-0 for the week. Shingo has won an INSANE 24 straight matches at Dragon Gate. What’s next? Maybe some gold or success outside of Dragon Gate?

#8 Joey Avalon (@JetPoweredJesus)-“The Jet Pack” was out this week as Joey Avalon finally enters the Top 10 after a very successful week. The BCW Heavyweight Champion and WPW Heavyweight Champion defeated Jarrod Jaxx on 8/6 to retain the title, then teamed with Zach Gowen to defeat Jarrod Jaxx & Justin Dredd, and then defeated Derek St Holmes Esq at WPW to retain the title to go 3-0 for the week. Avalon has been on fire as of late and finally gets a chance to show the entire world who he is with this solid ranking.

#9 Dave Crist (@OIFK1324)-The younger Crist is having a fantastic year in tag team competition AND singles this year. It’s been a while since he cracked the Top 10, however, but that all changed this past week when he defeated Josh Singh at Rockstar Pro on 8/5, then beat David Starr at Rockstar Pro on 8/7, and then beat Conor Claxton at CZW on 8/8. His lone blemish this week was when he teamed with Jake Crist and Heidi Lovelace to lose to The Hooligans and Buck Nasty on 8/9 at AAW. A 3-1 week slots him at the #9 spot this week on a week where if he could have scored just one more victory, he would have had an argument for a Top 3 ranking.

#10 Santana Garrett (@SantanaGarrett_)-The Mid-Year #1 in the IPR 100 continues to keep herself relevant as she took her NWA World Women’s Title to CCW on 8/8 and defeated Tammy Lynn to retain that title. Despite a lot of other people with perhaps a more impressive single week, it’s likely Santana’s body of work in 2015 that squeaked her into the Top 10 this week. She is now undefeated in her last 28 matches outside of Global Force Wrestling (27 wins and 1 draw) and continues to dominate the Indy Power Rankings this year.

People’s Champ. Hellcat (@Hellcat420)-It’s a THIRD People’s Champ award for Hellcat as the KDW Heavyweight Champion (and ½ of the UPW & CW Tag Team Champions) defeated Eric Young on August 8th to retain the Title. He collected a massive amounts in the online voting competition with 250 people casting their vote for him, which was more than 100 votes more than the second place contender.
